Mine is just on the floor...somewhere. I don't use my BOS alot, I keep it all in my head, Mantras, Sudras, Prayers, mythos and update when needed. Besides I got mine before I incorporated Buddhist philosophy and beliefs into my pre-existing Wiccan ones so it's pretty outdated. It's mostly a book of philosophical, theological thoughts and Ideas of a teenager, not really an organised spellbook.
From My understanding. A book of shadows is a collection of writings that can at best can only be a a small representation of your own personal power, magickal techniques ect. that actually work. One can not actually capture ones magical techniques in total, so hence it is only a shadow of that totality. If one reads someone elses book of shadows they may get something out of it buy only a shadow of what is really going on. Just my take on it.
generally, what 'works' is a ritual/prayer/meditation that achieves it's desired outcome. Sometimes diagrams or sigils are drawn in it, I've even pasted a few photographs here and there. Since each person connects to the spiritual in a different way, people who do use a BOS will write their own in their own way.

Oh no, I wasn't insulted personally, not by you at least. But when I tell people I'm Wiccan and the first thing they come back with is how much they LOVED 'the Craft' or 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' I kinda feel like I wanna throttle a baby.
I'm a Naturalist/athiest, I study natural sciences, i'm going into zoology and herpetology. I like you get rediculed by christians just because science explains how the world works better then christianity and evolution explains how biology works. I wonder if that kinda makes me pegan to because I observe nature. I know Dec 25 is really winter solctece, pope john pall the first in like 917 put the idea of selibrating christs birth on the 25th.
My thoughts are that it may be called a Book of Shadows because shadow represents the unknown and mysterious.
