im curious how many versions of this song are out there. i have the acoustic one on my ipod, and have found multiple variations on youtube. love every one of them.
Great video!! Loved the song and pictures!! I'm related to the Burwell in one of the hangings and my great great greandpa led the Cook Gang which had Cherokee Bill in it.
Seems it's not available for anyone. The vid linked to in annotations was actually on the artists account. Guess they must be having the same issue some other artists on youtube are having with their channels basically getting shut down.
Sucks.
Have added the video link for the record label's youtube account in more info.
@anon2999 Yes, quite popular indeed! My dad read Karl May books when he was little and i'm reading them now, really awesome! When my dad was young they played indians all day long. :)
wow this was really good, i cant decide if i like the official video or this one better. The official looks great but I like the pictures of REAL outlaws with this song
there is an official video for this song now!! Produced by Luke Norby, it is unreal. One of the best I have ever seen. I really think you will appreciate it! Nice work on this video by the way:) BT rules!
i put the capo on the 4th fret and play it Am, Em, C, G, D
Its a little easier without the bar chords and the finger-picking is easier to pull off, especially on the final D chord with those pull offs and hammer ons
2:58 Thats a picture of Billy The Kid.. A bandit an a killer, $5,000.00 reward Dear or Alive. In 1881 he got shot in his cabin in Fort Summer, The shooter (Pat Garrett) said he wanted him alive but had to shoot out of self-defence.
Allen and West had asked Burwell to get someone to kill a rival rancher. Burwell got Jim Miller, who did in fact kill the rancher with the help of a ranch hand he paid $50 to show him where the rancher was.
So they were arrested some time after but it looked like there wasn't enough evidence to convict. So naturally a mob came and pulled them out of their jail cells, took them to a barn and lynched them.
Miller actually requested he be hanged with his hat on.
Another detail- When the mob asked if Miller wanted to confess to Bobbitt's(the rancher) murder, all he said was - "Just let the record show that I've killed fifty-one men."
Very Cool video, cool song, I love how simple it is, I would like to see video's like this on MTV instead of those over produced, CGI for no reason, piece's of crap they show every day.
"It be cool if you had a pic. of a sheriff at 2:16, to match the song"
Yeah it's just a simple slide show but I really enjoyed making it. Gave me time to think about what we were as a country, what we are now, what's changed and what hasn't. It also reminded me how much I dislike the naked cowboy.
Only reason I found out about them is because I happened to be driving home a little after midnight (after working late) and coincidentally the "independent playground" was on the radio. Glad I worked late that night. :)
That's a great story! Working late can pay off sometimes, eh? I saw them in Cambridge, MA at the Middle East Upstairs last year. There were about 40 people there total. They put on (honest to God) the best show that I had ever been to. I push Blitzen Trapper on just about everybody I know...they're great!
i love this song and furr, but the vocals aren't the same for wild mountain nation.. whats the deal? in the WMN version, kind of whiny, i love the deep dylan-esque versions like furr and this song.. so what else is there?
Country Caravan off of WMN is a great song you should check out. You don't like the more out-there stuff? I think that the balance between the two is what makes them such a great band!
yeah the CC live version isn't too bad, i need to check out the studio. WMN is a good song.. i just really like dude's deep western vocals a lot bettter.. Don't get me wrong.. i haven't really heard a song i don't like from these guys. their lyrics are killer
