  • Christopher thorn can play like an instrument. Guitar, Mandolin, Harmonica, Bango, and in this hes playing like an oregon or piano or something.. Damn what a musician.

  • i think we'd all be feeling a lot different (and in a lot of cases more accepting) had they just came up with a new name. everyone would know its the dudes from blind melon with a new singer, they could even do old blind melon tunes live and ppl would love it... but they are trying to pick up on an identity and a time, built around a singer who died 16 years ago. i found it odd that travis had on a Layne shirt. AIC is another band that should have re-invented themselves, as well.

  • travis is awesome........shannon is dead, i'd rather have blind melon with travis than live in the past hoping shannons ghost is gonna come back for another tour......really....

  • It's not even close to what blind melon with shannon hoon was!

  • I like this guys... but I need to say... I feel a big hole in my soul... miss Shannon..R.I.P.

  • I don't know, period.

It's complicated. It's difficult to accept the lost; and the band (the musicians) are realy, realy good! But like universaleffect said, maybe 'the passion', maybe the poetry... but something Is missing...

  • no sabes nada men

  • blind melon was a great band...nobody can replace shannon ever...period. But ive seen blind melon with travis and it was still an amazing show..MELONHEAD 4 LIFE

  • jajajja. 2 days ago I was in a blind melons concert and it was one of the best concerts i´ve ever seen.

  • I am a bm freak and shit myself. I have to say though that I can enjoy this stuff. It's better than nothing and the dude bleeds bm like I do.

  • I know it's not fair too be hard on the members of the original band, but it's still kind of hard to see another singer who kind of reminds us of Shannon singing under the name "Blind Melon". I understand the musicians want to keep going, but they are good enough to get recognized without using the name. Nirvana didn't, the Doors didn't, Sublime didn't. cursing about it and trying to make it a contest of words doest help anything.

  • Sublime played with another vocalist

  • fuck u hatters blind melon is still the shit!

  • Thanks Mr. Stevens

    and pleeeeeeeease come to Chile!

    =)

  • Are any of them the original members?

  • Yes, everyone is in the band except Shannon of course. Also the new album is great

  • ok. talking babies are funny. what? i don't get it. this little epk threw me off. it did not represent the band well. anyway, sorry i hurt anyone's feelings. enjoy. bye.

  • I don't mean to overload the comments, but I've done some more "investigation" and maybe I stand corrected. This seems pretty meant to be. Sorry, I retract most of what I said before.

  • Respect!

  • Who writes the vocal parts for Blind Melon now? And did Shannon always write the melodies/parts he sang? I've been listening to clips on iTunes, and although I think the songs would be better with Shannon, They are still quite good. This band has always been the one of the most underrated musically. Soup is right up there with the greatest records of the 90's.

  • The bass player, Brad Smith wrote most of the music.

  • shannon is blind melon sorry guys

  • You're a fool.

Seems to me, when Shannon sang, there was all this music playing in the background. WEIRD EH. I did some research; turns out, there were a bunch of other guys in the band too. Guess what? They didn't die! So, I guess your statement is pretty much retarded.

Why don't you go watch your swearing baby, video. The thing about music is, if you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it! Awesome eh?

  • It's not like Shannon died in a car accident, or something that wasn't his fault. He fucking killed himself with drugs. So the rest of the band should suffer because of his mistakes? Fuck that. WELCOME BACK BLIND MELON!

  • I agree. But this is a disservice. why not just have a new band name? the production of the song on this vid definitely doesn't help. i mean, shannon hoon was incredibly special. how many people could really lead this band after him? rename your band, move on. and yes, though i loved all he did musically, f**k his drug use. drugs made my favorite bands, drugs ruined my favorite people.

  • It's not a disservice. It's a great album. Besides, why shouldn't the rest of the band be able to use the name THEY worked hard to establish? They should have to start over from scratch; with no notoriety, and constanly have to tag "Formerly of Blind Melon" over everything they do?

Go look at the YouTube videos of their concert where Nico Hoon played with them. Shannon's mother and grandmother were both there as well.

  • If Shannon's whole family is supporting the band, and doesn't have a problem with the new lead singer, why the hell do you!??!

  • I don't know. I can't speak for them. If they can have fun with it and enjoy themselves, then I'm happy for them. I was in the studio myself, or I would have gone to their free show in Tempe, AZ to see for myself. I heard it was great from some people. Still, I'm kinda glad I didn't go. I just want to hear that incredible band make new music. Fresh. New. Why did this record take so long, anyway?

  • THis new singer is amazing. I am so siked that

one of my favorite bands is together again!

  • i love the new song! it reminds me of pearl jams "black".

  • ganstamannirvan93: which new song? they've got a whole new album

  • the one they play in the studio

  • I enjoy hearing the band again. God I enjoy it. Dude, you will never be the real deal.

"I only wish I was 16 and..... freeeee"

  • All i know is that whoever made this video must be one groovy chick ;)

give Travis a chance. He rocks

    RIP Shannon

  • Love it! See ya in Wisconsin at the Rave!

  • Oh no....don't tell me they're pulling an Alice in Chains move. I guess we might as well expect the new line up of Nirvana to form soon too.

  • I think it is time for everyone to start respecting their musicianship. It is not fair for any of you to think they should put their skills to the side andnot continue making music. Yes Shannon was a spectular soul and he greatly missed by all. And no he can't be replaced. However, Travis has great vocals and skills and it is wonderful that he has the privelage to work with his idols. I will be seeing Blind Melon is March in Wisconsin! Can't wait guys!

  • They should continue to make music, but not under the Blind Melon name.

  • I respect your beliefs, but I have to differ. Blind Melon consists of Glen, Rogers, and Christopher as well. They are just as much Blind Melon as Shannon. I am just glad they are back! I can't wait to see em.

  • Blind Melon is the entire group. Take 1 member out and it's not the same group. Especially if that member is the front man. And the new stuff isnt nearly as good - don't tarnish Blind Melon's good name.

  • I love every member of Blind Melon and their name will not be tarnished. Would you say such things to the members of Blind Melon if you were face to face? Honestly?!?!?!

  • I think the new songs are fantastic and Travis is truly talented. I urge everyone to check them out live before making any judgements. Travis will be the first one to say that he is not trying to replace Shannon and that NO ONE can. I agree that Shannon was special and talented. It's really not a competition between Shannon and Travis. Enjoy both the "old" and "new" Blind Melon- I know I am.

  • I am a huge Melon fan,I am Also a big fan of the Doors but without Jim? Is like without Shannon,I have Jammed around enough over the years to know that if you change any one person in that collective creativity, the dynamic sound will change, not that it will be bad but just change.I wish the guys with Blind Melon much luck they are all awesome musicians.

  • i dig it.......r.i.p. Shannon

  • I LOVE me some Melon!!!! I was sooo lucky to have been able to see the band as a whole on the 1st cd in CINNCINNATI OHIO, @ a tiny club called BOGARTS. I knew they would be a special band, just how special is hard to explaine. I was able to kick it with them and get my ticket stub signed! I still have it, in a book of all the shows I've seen. I look @ them and wish I could go back in time.

  • love blind melon! a band isn't 1 person.shannon was perfection to me but,

"the band" carries on. and that should be a tribute to him. I would want my band to live on.

  • I'm just not excited at all about this. I dont even think they should call themselves Blind Melon.

  • they are almost nothing with out shannon

    they need him

  • Give them a chance, ya'll. Sure, they will never find the same magic they had with Shannon. He was one-of-a-kind, more than just special... But the band was a part of that magic, and they could create some great music yet. It won't be the same, but that doesn't mean it won't be good.

  • thats great i shit my pants too!

  • I just saw them last night in Boston and Travis Warren is the best you can get, without Shannon Hoon.

  • definately not shannon. big shoes to fill you know.

  • b mellow and keep playing-absolutely

    love love love

  • Aight sounded good. But they should change there name. NOBODY can replace hoon.

  • Keep up the good work! Sounds great so far! One by one, 2 x 4. Thanks. It means a lot.

  • If they were doing it for the money, why did they wait 12 years? Certainly the Band was not rolling in it when Shannon died. They only had one album available at that point. To everyone who thinks this is a desperate ploy to make money, don't listen then. I'm sure Shannon wouldn't want you to anyways.

  • Shoulda changed the name after Hoon, never be what they were.

  • all respect to the memory of Shannon, but a band is not the sum of its singer. They have every other member still in the band doosh bag! What a simple minded person you are.

  • You missed the point. Hoon really did make the band. If you're still a melon fan get your melon checked.

  • Really, no disrespect to any of the band members. They are good. But its no secret that Blind Melon was Hoon. Why they would want their new guy to impersonate him I don't know. Sublime was Bradly, Nirvana was Kurt, Jim Morrison was Doors. Nothing to be ashamed of.

  • Jim Morrison was not the doors, he was the front man, would The Doors be the same without the little Keyboard solos? Man, being in a band is about being creative together, 4 members are still here able to perform and keep the magick alive of what was created WITH Shannon. And really, its not like they'e doing an Axl Rose! Gunners without Slash? Cmon

  • Amen!

  • AMEN!

  • @therussfactor ..and who was the beatles?..?---the stones?..jagger ? or richards?..or watts?..shannon hoon was great...and he was one part of blind melon-----

  • I see both sides of this... The singer is like the captain of a ship. Even though the crew do so much of the work (and the band create and contribute so much to every song), what we see is a captain steering a ship. We grow to love the sound a band creates with one lead singer, and no matter how great the band is, they would never be the same (or even close) with anyone else.

  • Like Alice in Chains without Layne. As amazing as the band members are, there is nobody on earth like Layne. Pearl Jam have sounded great with several band member changes, but without Eddie they'd be like a different band. Noboby can sing Rage songs like Zack. Even though the band kicks ass, without Zack, we would say "That's not Rage." We are wrong. They have the right to use or not to use their names.

  • Alice in Chains without Layne, as amazing as they all are, the chemistry can never be recreated. Pearl Jam have sounded great with various band member changes, but without Eddie, they'd be a different animal. Nobody can do Rage songs like Zack. Even though the band kicks ass, without Zack, we'd say "That's not Rage." I figure it is up to the band whether they choose to use their name or otherwise.

  • Well said. I just think the magic is gone.

  • This makes me sad, this is not Blind Melon and for them to use the name proves that the only reason they are doing this is for easy money. Blind Melon died when Shannon died.

  • I hate tht point of view... These guys should be making music together. Whether they use the name or not is debatable, but the music is good and they aren't doing it for the money .... >:(

  • if they weren't doing it for the money they would change the name.. it's because their careers ended soon after Hoon died so now 10 or so years later their funds have fun low they need to make a quick buck so they throw out an album with the blind melon name and will sell a bunch from old BM fans and be set... if they want to make music good but this is not Blind Melon.

  • yeah they must of spent all there money on their own studio. wow they still have money to record their own music.hmmm. no rain must still be covering the expenses.

  • Its about the music. The amount of people this music truly touches is one of lifes many blessings. To be so instantly critical means you obvioulsy should be listening to some other form of music.

  • It's 4/5 of the band. Shannon was the front man which doesn't mean he was the band. Nobody can ever replace Shannon. I don't think they're trying. I doubt they'll even cover old stuff live. I think its good for em to go on making music and if they can leverage the name then good for them. You shouldn't judged em, especially since it's not just a couple of em, it's all four of em. I think Shannon would want em to move on. If you think they're doing it for the $ you missed the vibe from day one.

  • From wikipedia: "In 1979, the band (AC/DC) recorded their highly successful album, Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on February 19, 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott's replacement. Later that year, the band released their biggest-selling album, Back in Black."

Maybe waiting to hear it is appropriate before declaring someone's career "over".

  • :)))))

  • the album aint chinese dentistry, its called O.J.I.B.W.E

  • Not a single person has mentined the lack of the main man Shannon Hoon????

  • I'm sure that all of us love Shannon, but Blind Melon continues!!!! :D

  • Hahah... Nah man.. That was just a joke.

  • I belive chinese dentistry is the name of the album!

  • soooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooood
