Death panels do not exist, people whose incomes depend on you paying for your healthcare invented them. I have been cared for by the NHS my entire life, I was born in an NHS hospital and from that point on I have received nothing but exemplary care. It's not perfect (nothing is) but I wouldn't change it for the American system in a million years.
Yeah, Canada's health care system is so fucking great. The veterinary hospitals have shorter wait lists and better equipment than hospitals. Universal health care is so great all around the world that people (medical tourists) visit the U.S. to receive surgery. Honestly, on an unrelated (but interesting note), when Canada starts protecting free speech instead of censoring political speech they deem "hate" and not "politically correct" then come talk to me.

My grandfather has had not one but two major life saving surgeries ((One of which he flat lined in for a few seconds)) and had not payed for either. He explained that he couldn't pay and the hospital didn't take it any further. That is why hospital visits are so expensive, because they still do the serious treatment for those who need it.

You can do a search on the internet historical tax rates. You will find that the US had a Maximum tax rate of 90%+ from 1937 to 1967, remember the US was growing and the middle class was living will then.
When Reagan cut the maximum tax rate to 50% is when things started to go to hell.

A government system that makes the rules, runs at a deficit and otherwise cost shifts premiums to private insurers is not competition. it is an anti-trust entity that would be sued for that and the results it will bring if allowed to be enacted to "compete" against private insurers. Real competition would involve companies that could cross state lines and have basic regulations on transparency and preconditions.

The US should adopt the swiss health care system, by far the best health care on the whole world with the best top notch medicine available. How? Make an insurance mandatory for every citizen and then leave it to the private health inssurances to deal with it. There is fierce competition between the companies, and you know what, it works! The care we have in the current system is rationed (depending on your income level, of course). That will probably never stop. What's wrong about paying a little and getting basic medical coverage for everyone? It works for public schools, highways, firefighters and the like. "Socialized medicine" is just a negative term for something that isn't all that bad. It's like saying "Nazi" to a German student today; it simply isn't the case.

Socialized medicine is what happens when the government owns all the hospitals and all its employees are government employees. There is no such recomendation in any of the bills.
Rationing does sometimes occur under soc. medicine in other countries but the extent of it has been exaggerated. Ask a Canadian.
Rationing already occurs under the current system. one thing the proposed plan is trying to do is legislate it so that medically necessary procedures cannot be refused by the ins cies.
Socialized medicine is what's happening now under its already bankrupt entitlement programs, and its fascist regulations which stifle competition for health insurance plans, and dictate the policies of the remainder.

Actually I live in Montreal not far from where this was filmed. This is filled with half truths and innacuracies.
For example specialist services are not covered by the RAMQ so presenting difficulties in finding a specialist as a result of socialized medicine is inaccurate.
Completely private clinics are also actually illegal in Quebec. The provincial government will actually pay the dr's fees for you in these clinics though some tests will not be covered unless done in a hospital.

Death panels do not exist, people whose incomes depend on you paying for your healthcare invented them. I have been cared for by the NHS my entire life, I was born in an NHS hospital and from that point on I have received nothing but exemplary care. It's not perfect (nothing is) but I wouldn't change it for the American system in a million years.

Universal health care is so great all around the world that people (medical tourists) visit the U.S. to receive surgery. If we look at England or Canada, if you aren't a high ranking person you can die waiting for a bed. Hell if you look at your own state, every state has at least 4 kinds of health care plan for the needy and all of them are crap! @jebenn23 Actually the dirty little secret is that you can go in and get serious life saving work done. I know this from personal experience. My grandfather has had not one but two major life saving surgeries ((One of which he flat lined in for a few seconds)) and had not payed for either. He explained that he couldn't pay and the hospital didn't take it any further. That is why hospital visits are so expensive, because they still do the serious treatment for those who need it.

You are as miss informed on taxs as on most other things. We have the second lowest federal taxes ever, the lowest where in the years leading up to the Great Depression. You can do a search on the internet historical tax rates. You will find that the US had a Maximum tax rate of 90%+ from 1937 to 1967, remember the US was growing and the middle class was living will then.
When Reagan cut the maximum tax rate to 50% is when things started to go to hell.

Just to Clarify. The veteran "Death Book" was first started by George w. Bush and was supported by him until December 2008. This book isn't to instruct veterans how to die but a book to explain what needs to be done like a living will, Asking questions if they wanted to be pulled off a machine if they were in a vegetative state. ffedrummer, do you honestly care who was president when it was introduced rather than discussing what should be given to double amputees who have just returned from the battlefield to a shockingly different world? Maybe if you tell me the date, day, and time it was introduced, I could tell you what I was doing. France and Italy are not a 300,000,000 person nation trying to run a system that has large demographic disparities spanning more than 3000 miles. Even at that, they are still behind.

ffedrummer, when our pockets of poverty are removed from the equation, there is no health system that is close to this nation. We can make it better and we can do much to eliminate the pockets of poverty by somehow getting the Marxist elements of the Dem party on board to the capitalist system. If we try to adopt a European model, we will find ourselves in even worse financial shape, possibly over the cliff. We are going the wrong direction with the current approach.

HMMM. Correct me if im wrong but we tried the capitalist with the last president and then our premiums rose 115%. It's because the Insurance companies don't have competition. So make govt health care an OPTION!!! you want to keep your coverage then keep it. BTW Australia has the same type of health care system as european countries. Most use govt health care and insurance survives via supplemental. Driving down the cost of health care with another choice is the name of the game. Capitalism

ffe, insurance companies are competition. A government system that makes the rules, runs at a deficit and otherwise cost shifts premiums to private insurers is not competition. it is an anti-trust entity that would be sued for that and the results it will bring if allowed to be enacted to "compete" against private insurers. Real competition would involve companies that could cross state lines and have basic regulations on transparency and preconditions.

ffe cost savings would come by changing the system so basic care was self paid. We should have many more medical schools and nursing programs. pharmacy should be a 2 year programs. common sense regulations on nurse practitioners for simple care. without the bureaucracy a doctor could see a noninsured patient for thirty bucks, even competing with house calls and free movie tickets. In a round about way it is in the UK. News content is not aloud to have any strong political bias in delivery. This does not perclude debate/opinion pieces, just that all sides must be given the chance of fair comment.
As an aside there is no political advertising outside of fixed-slot party political broadcasts. These adise you which party they are talking on behalf of both pre/post transmission.

The US should adopt the swiss health care system, by far the best health care on the whole world with the best top notch medicine available. How? Make an insurance mandatory for every citizen and then leave it to the private health inssurances to deal with it. There is fierce competition between the companies, and you know what, it works! Nobody can be rejected.Then you can choose between a basic insurance or a luxury version called "private". But within the basic insurance you have unlimited access to every best treatment you need, not less than the luxury version. The only difference is the room you are in. With basic insurance, you are 2 to 4 patients in a room. With the luxury version you have your own room.

The care we have in the current system is rationed (depending on your income level, of course). That will probably never stop. What's wrong about paying a little and getting basic medical coverage for everyone? It works for public schools, highways, firefighters and the like. "Socialized medicine" is just a negative term for something that isn't all that bad. It's like saying "Nazi" to a German student today; it simply isn't the case.

Socialized medicine is what happens when the government owns all the hospitals and all its employees are government employees. There is no such recomendation in any of the bills.
Rationing does sometimes occur under soc. medicine in other countries but the extent of it has been exaggerated. Ask a Canadian.
Rationing already occurs under the current system. one thing the proposed plan is trying to do is legislate it so that medically necessary procedures cannot be refused by the ins cies.

Actually I live in Montreal not far from where this was filmed. This is filled with half truths and innacuracies.
For example specialist services are not covered by the RAMQ so presenting difficulties in finding a specialist as a result of socialized medicine is inaccurate.
Completely private clinics are also actually illegal in Quebec. The provincial government will actually pay the dr's fees for you in these clinics though some tests will not be covered unless done in a hospital.

2) A quick google search of survival rate per disease brings up nothing. It's too vague and there is no data on this (other than crude mortality rates). There are however rates of infant mortality, cancer survival, heart disease, etc and virtually all favour Canada and those that don't favour some other country with soc. med. But the US spends more on HC
