So many electronics haters. V drums are quite good, he's just using some of the lesser quality sounds for some reason. Like that snare and the toms. The TD-30 or 20 have much better sounding drums in them than the ones used here. Either way, Thomas Lang is a beast.
I feel that any decent drummer behind an electronic kit like this one, can sound much more epic due to the nature of the drum pads. Lang is awesome still...not knockin him down, but something about playing acoustic drums and then sitting behind an electronic kit...you sound like godzilla.
the stock roland sounds sound like shit if they are not tweaked, you can get good sounds if you play around with the settings but i believe thomas uses all default settings
Drumming is amazing. Compliments for Thomas Lang. but i agree: for me this is not it. Also lots of missing notes or gun shots in fast parts.. Almost no dynamics.
Thomas does not seem to be insprated. Sounds like a very difficult acrobatic high quality drum study in stead of an inspiring drum show. There also are high quality drum sample plugins like BFD2, EZ drummer, Superior drummer, Ocean Wave drums, etc. , etc. Why not use that?
i think he choose this "bad" sounds to make a point. today with that budget you can make some really sweet and realistic drums sounds and grooves with edrums, but he decided to go with the most common and "crappy" sounds. if you dont believe me search 2box drummit five, Superior Drummer 2.0. or addictive drums.
edrums would never sound as acoustic ones, no electronic instrument does exact acoustic sound and feel, but technology has come a long way.
@mastigoz The 2box drum it five is amazing!! Far better than anything on the market at the moment. The only thing I didn't like were the cymbals, they didn't feel nice to me. I'm thinking of getting one, I have the TD-9 at the moment.
Although the TD-20 is the flagship Roland kit, it sounds really crap compared to all the other Roland kits on offer, even the TD-4 sounds a lot more realistic!!! You can actually tell that hes playing an electronic kit.
@domdom87 Yeh you're right, but I think a lot of the acoustic sounds on the TD-20 sound a little fake. I saw him play in London a couple of weeks ago and it sounded more or less the same. Amazing guy none the less.
@andthentherewasham nothing will every compare to acoustics, but some are quite decent. however, they're great if you live in an apartment and worry about volume.
@andthentherewasham its just the presets he uses mate, you can change the sounds a lot and make it sound like any kit... trust me. and btw, there are many acoustic kits that sound like shit as well...
how could he possibly think this was a good idea? though it fits his robotic drum style.
