@anonymousguitarguy if you are really just starting out and want to buy a new guitar try an ibanez grg or a jackson js series guitar. have a jackson myself and played many ibanez's and the necks are some of the best you can get for th money for the type of genre you want to play!

Clear tone or Elixir. I have a Jackson so I use 9's but in general they're both pretty good, the cleartones have a coating over them that keeps them from slowly fraying as most strings will and elixirs are really good but they will EVENTUALLY fray... either way you can't go wrong, but I'm rocking some D'addario or however you spell it... :)

its just the hum that comes with a lot of gain, either waste 100 and some dollars on a pedal that cuts the hum or get over it. i just look over it. dont turn up the level on the metal zone for it sounds like total shit with the level all the way up. keep it at about 12 o clock or lower and adjust the volume on your amp

If you all want a killer Metallica / Pantera sound get a digitech "death metal" pedal and run it through a 50 watt or more Marshall that has the fdd feature. Scoop out the midrange somewhat on both the Amp and pedal and fiddle with it from there. Its what i use and after a few years of trial and error its the best rig so far. Hope that helps.
