how do you get your baby to STAY STILL, my boy turns 7 months tomorrow and WILL NOT stay still for diaper change. He crawls, cruises , climbs stairs (supervised) ugh! Any advise on how to get him to stay still for diaper time??
@sendmejuice I'm pretty blessed that Connor is pretty good during diaper changes, but a toy helps a ton! Give him something that he doesn't usually get to play with, like your phone or keys, anything that's exciting for 2 minutes. When I worked in special ed, we had a basket for each kid by the changing table filled with their very favorite toys that they could only play with during diaper changing time.
Back in the old days everyone used cloth and safety pins. They must have been a pain in the ass so OUT CAME DISPOSABLE DIAPERS. So, why are we going backwards? They make disposable diapers of thousands of kinds. Some are biodegradabe. There cheep and if you want to dress them up put a cloth diaper cover over 'em. PROBLEM SOLVED
@jhartist123 Biodegradable diapers are much more expensive than regular disposables, and even if you want to compare prices with store brand diapers, I've saved thousands of diapers in the 2 1/2 years I've cloth diapered my son. Plus diaper rash happens much less frequently since there are no harsh chemicals on his skin! The benefits are huge!
Thanks for the great tutorial! I'm fairly new to cloth and have been using indian prefolds with covers. I'm contemplating buying several bumgenius 3.0s on sale (for my cloth-phobic hubby) and was concerned about the "stuffing" part. So glad to hear that simple microfiber towels work just as good as inserts! I swear, with so many options it seems the cloth diaper industry WANTS to keep us confused!
@MSLATRICE20 You can buy used diapers online at craigslist, ebay, or diaperswappers. I'm sure there are others but those are the ones i'm familar with
Hi... You are using a microfibre in your video which you say is from the auto section... brilliant idea... Can i ask, have you found these mfibre to be just as good at the inserts that are sold with BG? Thanks for the video xoxo
@NEATeyePHOTOart The BG inserts are made of the same material, but they are several layers sewn together. They work just as well, but a regular towel will dry faster.
Just got mine and I have no idea how to use them. thanks for the video! You said that you usw 2 towels for the night. Does that mean you keep it on the baby all night withour changing...all you do is feed th baby all night without changing diapers?
@swingjenn123, I meant that for babies who sleep through the night. If your baby is still waking up to be fed, I would go ahead and change the diaper. :)
I am looking for a cloth diaper that is reusable for several changes. I am assuming the pocket style is not? I am looking for a type with a liner that can be changed out leaving the cover relatively clean and ready for another use. What type is best for this purpose or is there a way to make the BumGenius reusable? (I understand they can be laundered and reused, I guess my question is can they be used more than once CONSECUTIVELY or made able to do so?)
I believe they make bumgenius and other brand diapers that are not the 'stuffed' variety. The kind you are looking for will be the kind that you have to use separate inserts for. The g diapers do make disposable inserts, but that is not your only option. I heard that people that like the stuffed kind, like them because it is easier to 'double, or triple up' on the lining.
@niamh2739 I have a wetbag, which is basically a waterproof bag made of PUL (the same stuff as the outside of the diaper) with a zipper on top. Mine will hold about 3 diapers, but you can get them in all sizes.
Hello, I was wondering how many cloth diapers you would recommend to buy when starting cloth diapering? I want to try these on my baby when he arrives. Thank you!
@angelka89 We bought 14 to start, but we do have to wash every day. If you buy 22-25 of them you can get by with washing every two days (three if you're lucky), which isn't bad. 25 of these seem expensive, but I calculated it out, and you actually SAVE well over $1000 over 2+ years of diapering verses buying all those disposables - even using bulk disposable pricing.
i'm sorry can you explain why you are using the towel? Dont the pocket diapers COME with an insert? I registered for these...should I register for some different kind of insert?
@mktarrant I think the video poster bought them at an auto store since she bought her diapers second hand and didn't get the inserts that new ones will come with. You can also order replacements of the original inserts online at cottonbabies - com (no, i'm not affiliated with them ;-)
I've never used a BumGenius insert, all of mine were bought second hand with no inserts. I believe theirs are just several layers of microfiber though, which means a regular towel would work just as good and dry faster!
Hi! Thanks for this video. I have one question though. How often do you have your Bum Genius washed? In other words, how many hours/uses can it go without washing? I really want to get one for my 2nd child. I was just wondering if this is better than a plain diaper cover. Thanks again.
With poop you just dump the solids in the toilet. It's no big deal if there is a little bit left, as long as a majority is off. If it's really soft, you can swish it in the toilet or buy a sprayer that attatches to the toilet, just like a sink sprayer. If the baby is getting only breastmilk, there is no need to rinse at all. Breastmilk poop is water soluble so it comes out in the wash!
@aceroyy We use BumGenius, but also use diaper liners from Bummies. They're just really thin piece of flushable cotton paper you line the diaper with. You can then just lift the poop right out of the diaper and flush it, leaving the diaper fairly clean - and ready to throw into the washer. Especially good for our newborn, since the poop is still pretty runny (which is normal).
Connor is adorable! :o) I have a question though: We're expecting our first baby (a boy) soon and I wanted to use the BumGenius v3. I noticed that you double fold the stuffing at the front? Is this because he is a boy or any other reason?
I do it that way because he's a boy, yes. A girl you would probably want extra in the back, at least while they sleep on their backs! Also, those are not the inserts it came with. I bought them used without inserts, so I use microfiber towels.
Thank you that was very helpful, we are thinking about using these ones for the new baby thats on the way and I am a little hesitant if I can do it or not.

@kj090305 Look into the gdiaper system. They have flushable, biodegradable inserts and cloth inserts, and they sound like exactly what you want!

It isn't necessary to change or undo the snaps for washing. That is from the Facebook bumGenius website.

I'm so sorry I didn't see this sooner, for some reason YouTube isn't notifying me of comments.
They will go about 2 hours or so between changes, but must be washed after every use.
