Flair was the #1 heel back then and the guy you had to have the belt on in order to ensure sellout crowds in the bigger arenas back then. His promos were so legendary because he also name-dropped the cities he performed in by name, drawing an even closer relationship with the fans their, whether they wanted to cheer him or boo the hell out of him... The ultimate playboy gimmick wrestler whose gimmick was actually his real personality!
anybody know what the top stars would earn salaray wise back in these days? everytime i see a documentary about 80s wrestling they would mention they made alot of money but what was alot of money in those days?
@mjnoir1 Flair made over a million dollars some years back in the 80's. Now, most guys didn't make what he made, but they made good money as well. A few hundred thousand a year was probably about right for the big names, and back then, that was a lot more money than today.
@bull864 thanks dude i always wondered how much they made back then. in the 80s that much money was an insane salary! good for them though. they were bringing in the business so they earned it
@mjnoir1 Yep, they made money off how many asses were in seats in those days. That's why the wrestling was so much better than today because they only made money if they were good at what they did.
He's a multi-millionaire, but he doesn't even freakin' pay his debts. Its a shame that Richard Fliehr the man is a scumbag, alcoholic, roid abuser, and other sad terms because Ric Flair was the epitome of awesome.
@cbaldwinjr Yeah we know Ric is going through problems right now but ask yourself this. Would you want to be on top of the world for 30yrs and have 5 bad yrs or live the life you are living now...pay homage to the man.
I wonder if they paid some of those women to be in the audience? The girl in black and white at 4:45 looks a little too high class to be at a wrestling promo taping. I don't know, maybe Flair was a chick magnet back in the day. Maybe they really came to see him.
He started all the ballin lifestyle...the rolex, custom made clothes, flying in private planes, & banging out the hottest chicks! Ric Flair is the king of swag!!!!
Thats what you call a money promo.Ric Flair and other wrestlers abck then like Dusrt Rhodes could talk people into coming to the matches and filling the seats.Too bad that era is long gone,as is the art of doing these types of promos.
When Jim Crockett Promotions died years ago so did wrestling in my opinion. It was pretty decent for years after in wcw and wwf but nothing could compare to this era.
damn! rvry time i watch one of these promos, i wind up watchin all of them! its because this was rasslin'. thank the powers that be for youtube! keep these uploads comming! WWWWOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
3:35 "and I will make love to nothing but the best looking woman in the world. you know why? Because I'm a winner." strong. just a matter of time before flair makes it in some smartass rap song analogy. I just wanted to be able to say I called that.
@mrbluto3 He's up there though...I mean if you're going from 1975 to the present I would say that Flair, HBK, Angle, Hart, Savage, Steamboat, all could have arguments made for why they are #1...
Ric Flair was the reason Jim Crockett Promotions was as good as it was. That's why David Crockett was all smiles every time Ric walked out to do a promo. Crockett knew who was filling up the buildings. One Ric Flair promo equalls a sold out show. Whoooo!!!
@danteras23 I agree. Flair was great, but JCP had many great wrestlers through the years, all of whom contributed to its success. In fact, without the mentoring he recieved from Wahoo, Mulligan, the Valentines, Steamboat & the Andersons, Flair might not have evolved into being Flair. He might have remained just another pudgy guy with platinum hair on the midcard. One could argue that JCP produced and/or cultivated most of the legends from the 70-80s, many of whom would be stolen by the WWF.
@TheLeroyMoon JCP in the 80's is what got me hooked on wrestling. The WWF gets too much credit sometimes. The great thing about wrestling back then was having an alternative.
@T74G.. What a trip, im watching a SGT Slaughter SHOOT from PWD, and he has The Original US Tittle, and Heavyweight was spelled wrong..(Heavyweihgt)..
Ric Flair was loved for his shit talking, but if Floyd Mayweather used Flair exact words..he would be hated even more.
