  • You lesson is great. The way you teach is even greater. You are a good teacher. Thanks for the video

  • @personaltip Thanks! :)

  • I've been playing guitar a long time but never really figured out a good way of finding notes quickly. This will help me no end, so thanks for posting this! I shall take a look at your other lessons. Sometimes it is good to go back to basics!

  • Great breakdown, I subbed. Very nice video, man.

  • @rich2rock Thanks man! I'm glad it was useful....

  • I've been doing some research on this CAGED system I'd really like to learn it but is frustrating .I have found that the teaching methods for children are way more effective. . I spent months trying to learn key signatures with no avail until I found one for kids and I finally cracked the code

  • I was just tying to understand the "C" patterns. Aren't they the two finger harmonic patterns, like a Wes Montgomery style of doubling a note by adding it's higher harmonic ? Not that this is a issue, I was trying to figure this CAGED system, which I will, or have.

i.e. On the A string, fret 3, which is C, if you go up to the G string to 5th fret, also C, but a harmonic higher. I'll watch this a few times, bit confusing maybe once over, will look at your other Vids too, thanks.

  • Yeah. Where's your video!?

  • I found learning my chord formulas learning the notes on the fretboard easier to learn than memorizing the "shape" patterns.

  • I understand 'what' the caged system is and i know the open chords, but it seems like everything is based around the 'root note'. I don't know what the root note is, or how i find it so it makes it kind of impossible to understand the rest. like learning how to walk but not knowing where your feet are.

    I guess my question is

    what is the root note?

  • The root note is the note for which the chord is named. Take for example the simple G triad:

    -----5--

    -----5--

    --3-----

That 3rd fret there on the sixth string is a G, so it's a root note, and so is the fifth fret up on the third string 4th string. Those are are both Gs and they're both roots. Make sense?

  • @zozoezo root note.....the main note is what i would say it is.....c chord or c scale have a root note of c.......so there it is....

  • Its good for sweeps as well. Helps with pitch Axis. I'd like to see a video for minor CAGED tho.

  • Very clear explanation. I use CAGED as a basic framework for teaching lead guitar.

  • CAGED is useful for breaking out of just using pentatonic shapeo and basic barre and open shapes, but I've found the seven 3 note per string major shapes useful for learning how to get up and down the neck more fluently.

  • Actually, the book I like the most is "Guitar Fretboard Workbook" by Barret Tagliarino. It is a very comprehensive way to learn your theory on the instrument and something that I use with all of my students with great success...

  • just get FretBoard Logic by bill edwards

  • I simplify all this now, CAGED are the chords SHAPES in which we move all over the neck in a sequence.

Very simple, students need to know how to play those open chords on the neck., then when they decide what key / Root they want to explore all they have to do for example is pick C., then fallow up the AGED in sequence connecting them up or down the neck., If a person decided to navigate using d then it will be shapes starting with D-CAGE, simple, each shapes connect to each other.

  • No offense to anyone, but the way just about all the videos explain this CAGED system will confuse people, all the videos spend too much time describing open chords when taking a simple chart and showing them in other positions could visually solve 5 minutes of talking.

  • thanks for the message !

  • i meant any other ways it can be used ?? or other things to know about it ??

  • thanks, any other things about learning on the cage4d system... this was really helpful even tough i feel there's a lot more to it

  • good video, man. you explained it well.

  • this really makes sense, thanks alot

  • wow...well done, makes sense and its fairly easy...thanks

  • THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!! I WANNA TRULY THANK YOU CUZ I'VE BEEN TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THIS SYTEM ON THE INTERNET FOR LIKE 2 HOURS AND NOBODY HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME AS YOU DID... also I don't take lessons so...

  • Very logical and helped great in knowing the fretboard quickly. Thank you sir...

  • really good stuff. my guitar tutor was just getting on to teaching me this system but i hadn't really grasped it until now. cheers:-)

  • i would never want u as a teacher. all u do is talk

  • I'm sure he would listen if there was a HUMAN with him to ask questions you NEWB!

  • Nice video. That really helps.

  • this is excellent. I've been playing guitar for 6 years and never heard about this system. Thanks man!

  • great one man, can you do a part 2 for the same subject? more ways this can be used etc

  • Thanks! I'll actually be doing a bunck of lessons built off of this one...look for part 2 in the next couple of days...

  • Take a look at my videos, any suggestions on what would help me on my playing?

  • @infernalgr I missed this comment when it was originally posted but I have a lesson series in my online school that is in production right now that will expand on this quite a bit...
