Duane was asked once about his views on the revolutions of the time and he said something I'll never forget.'There is no revolution, just evolution'...never forgot that.
Great song even though it is to the beat of Donovan's song There is a Mountain. First there is a mountain then there is no mountain. The song also sounds like some future Allman stuff.
Youtube only gives you ten minutes of time to post something. Therefore I had to cut something out, since Mt Jam is usually 30+ minutes. That having been said, since Dickey is still alive and going, this is dedicated to Duane
Either 10-16-71 or maybe 10-17. I've read that Marietta, OH was the last gig, but the website shows a gig the next day in Owlings Mill, MD. He died 10-29-71.
You can hear the entire concert on the Sugarmegs site. Just type in Sugarmegs on google and it'll take you there. Zillions of other concerts there too by just about everyone you can think of!
this is precious because Duane only had 7 weeks to live....and it's beautiful....yet the Mountain Jam on Eat a Peach is so haunting and tight and focused....I've still never heard anything that touches the deepest soul like Duane's solos on EAP Side IV Jam....
@KLOOBA - I think their last gig with Duane was in Marietta, Ohio, in the high school gym of all places. Not sure why I think that. Maybe from the "Skydog" bio of Duane, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Thanks, Baron. Another great post. Though I like drumming, especially great drummers like Jai and Butch, I say you did a good editing job. Long live the music of the Allmans!
howd you get this audio? Is it on cd or something?
cause i saw the setlist for this show and it's prolly the best setlist ive ever seen for the ABB. and it makes it special that Duane and Berry are on it.
It's about rhythm. I think there is a harmonic convergence that happens when the rhythm of the music matches the frequency of our heartbeat. I noticed the first thing a child does is bang on something. I would like to have an anthropologist investigate this in depth. When I play music I find a zone that I can only describe as religious for lack of a better word.
Oh dude, it's all good. The space in our hearts in endless. Right now, I've got Duane, Eric, Jimi, Brian, Berry, Stevie and Bonham living in there. Nothing but beautiful music can and will be heard every night. But one day, we'll all be together in one big jam session as long as we keep our hearts open.
bthoma1, thanks for posting this. No need to apoligize for cutting it.
I would like to say, in response to some folks, that while I have been moved to tears by some of the ABB music on YouTube, I don't think there's anything "mystical" or religious about it. We all have feelings, and sometimes those can't be expressed by words. Duane was one of those rare artists who could express things for us. I've read where Duane was listening to Coltrane & Miles - they had that insight, too.
I was almost 17 when they did this show; was going to hitchhike from Alexandria, but a hurricane was blowing in. Thought I'd catch 'em next time, since they were doing the Warehouse seems like 4-5 times a year. Little did I know that he'd be gone so soon. I've kicked my ass a million times since. Caught the 12-31-71 show there, tho. Life changing experience. Remember Duane Allman.
Isn't funny that people get chills listening to music playing? The question I have is, why do we do that? How does that help our survival as a species? Do lions in the wild hear a melody and get a quiver in their neck and chill bumps for a particular tone? It's a hilarious human trait!
Music is one of the most direct connections to the Divine (or whatever you call it). Hearing music, particularly when played by truly inspired musicians, we experience the purity of our being, not distracted by "self." "Inspiration" is relates to "inspire" originally meaning "to breath in," which in ancient times related to drawing the divine in to the mind, per their breathing practices. Go breath... deeply... slowly.... listen to inspiring music and know the absolute truth of what you are :-)
I love how you have "religious" as a tag. To me, the Brothers have always had the capacity to take me to a place that only can be descibed that way. Don't mean to be sacriligious but they were some incredibly AWARE musicians.

Is there any doubt that Duane had a gift for music. Juiceman

you can hear Duane putting together the pieces that would eventually be on the "Eat a Peach" album.......a little more spacey sounding here.
Love Charlie Parkers bird sounds.
