can anybody tell me why all hmong chinese always have a red fabric hanging on their ntive qeej? does it mean anything..in hmong america tie on the top of the mouth peice.
for those of you who tsi paub qeej, zaj no yog zaj qeej tawm nrag plig. dhia dhia puv ntiv ces...muab tso plig (zaj tso). there seems to be a few who believes that this type of qeej can't be listened or played in the house; however, qeej tuag is only taboo in the house..but not qeej plig. qeej plig and qeej are two different things.
I been on qeej for too long...look like the old style isn't change much for hmong chinese...but at lease they still honors the skill in some other country.... not like here in the US....people don't honor our culture anymore... that why I quit after 8 years of qeej shows..
lol....qeej show? qeej is for the funrel and not for show. now and days, people just play the qeej to for show. and shlt, they doing a ritual. lol. not suppose to be watching in your house. lol.
wow, looks really weird to me. im also in a qeej class from sheboygan, wisconsin for 3 years now and ive never seen anything like this. prolly the only thing that comes close is "chov plis", but looks very different. also, the movie says China, not sure if it is, but looks like laos. at least some of the men in the vid looks like chinese men because of their hats they are wearing. yeah, well this vid is pretty nice. nice to show ppl what is like.
wow that guy gotta be dizzie do that.

Question: why do they spin around like that when they play Qeej?
nephrenmalinari 3 years ago
If this is a ritual perform at the funeral I can't watch it inside the house.
TongleeLor 4 years ago
They should put a warning tag on this: If you practice traditional hmong religion you can't play this inside the home of residence.

I think this might be some kind of post-mortuary ceremony. The drum that was carried by looks like a funeral drum, rather than a sun drum.
