I learnt how to become ambidextrous 2 months ago. I shock my friends. One way I drilled it in my mind was to write my affirmations everyday 15 times in my left hand, I'm right handed; or should I saw was, lol. I also do Brain Yoga daily to activate the creative side of my brain more.
The younger the easier.. Pretty much. If your over 13 I'd say, it's too late to try an if you do your normal dominant hand is gona get messed up. I am ambidextrous I have been growing up and my friends at school tried and messed up.
I don't think that's true. This is my video, and I didn't learn to write "differently" until I was in my thirties, and it came very easily. As soon as I relaxed and stop convincing myself that I "couldn't do it," it started working.
In this case it was very much a matter of attitude. And the whenever I do it, I feel like I am improving something in my brain. That may be wishful thinking, but at least it's always fun to do.
Never find reasons why something "wont work" for you.
I just gave it a try and it seemed easier than I thought. The handwriting was terrible, thought. So I kept at it. Practicing was kind of relaxing for me, so it wasn't a chore. You just sort of get into the zone.
I think that like most things, nature determines how easy something might be for you, but you decide how good you will be at it. You can definitely improve your "handedness" with practice.
I just thought it would be cool if I did it,so when I tried to write with my left hand,it came so naturally I was surprised. Many of my friends, however, didn't catch on as fast as I did. Now,whenever I take a really long exam,if one of my hands cramp up I can just use the other one. It's actually kind of amazing.
Yeah, it's pretty weird that some people "can just do it." I think it has a lot to do with mental outlook. Most people are centered around what they can't do.
Ever try to teach someone something while they keep repeating to themselves, "But I just can't do it!"? If they tell themselves that, they are sure to live down to their expectations.
I'm left-handed, and I tried, from 2007 until 2010, to improve my non-dominant hand. I wrote in a notebook every day with my right hand, filling a page with 12 lines of text and a comic. I have six notebooks, and at the end, my handwriting hasn't improved at all. Not only that, but my hand writing with my left hand now feels unnatural. My right hand writing feels just as unnatural as it did in the first place. A lose-lose situation.
I do not recommend writing with your non-dominant hand.
Although, they say that creativity comes from left-handed individuals, so I can't say I made the right choice, trying to switch over to right-handed writing.
But you're going to lose dexterity if you don't use a hand often enough--and I realized that I wasn't using my left hand as often as my right hand. I wrote more with my right hand than my left.
I learned that I should respect the fact that my body naturally wanted to use my left hand for writing. (I use my right hand for most tasks).
Sorry to hear that. I wonder why your experience was atypical.
If you want to do something to improve your handwriting, have you taken up calligraphy?
My handwriting (as you can see from the video) is not particularly good, but it used to be absolutely miserable. Practicing calligraphy, and learning to slow down and be more deliberate, has helped.
@ratxxz very unfortunate. I getting my right hand to write neat and it improved from yesterday. And my left hand feels very natural. Wonder why yours was different...
If you take a piece of paper, fold it down the middle, and then start to practice using BOTH hands @ the same time, you will see a drastic change in your ambidextrous ability. Not to brag but it would be even more impressive if you did it from left to right and left to right. Copy a dictionary by the way, that's if you trust God. And so the Dog barked.
Be a wolf, that way you can flow better, Dogs bow to their Gods.
That's the weird thing - When I was a kid, my mom, who's a lefty, showed me that she could do it. I thought it was hard, so I couldn't do it.
Later, as a magician, I developed the a more open mindset, and when I tried it, damn! I could just do it. Basically, if you can get yourself to relax about it, the dominant hand "teaches" the other hand automatically. Then you just need to practice for a page or two, and you'll "have it."
I can writ with both my hands but when i am using my left hand in a notebook the spirals are wayyy to annoying so i use my right hand... but every thing else i write is left handed..
Right. That is the point. I never claim that I am ambidextrous. If I were, that would not be special. Most ambidextrous people simply inherit the trait. That is luck, not effort or talent. It's only people who develop or train a talent that have any meaning, as far as I'm concerned.
i am ambidextrous but i prefer the left hand the first time i went to to school i started writing then i got tired so my right hand came in a everysingle fuckin' person in the room stared with awe it rocks i can write mirrored text it's a cool skill
I used to be left handed, but because of those spirals in my notebook digging into my hand, 1 day i just said fuck it and starting writing with my right hand
This guy is not ambidextrous. He just tought himself how to write with his left. If he were then he wouldn't be picking up his hand every time he needed to write more to the right.
I'm ambidextrous but I prefer my right. Just today, I was doing my half-yearly exam and my right hand got so tired from writing, I switched to my left. The teacher just stared at me...
I usually don't let people know I'm ambidextrous...
Same here. I was right-handed most my life but I moved schools and decided to use my left. I don't let people know because I don't like attention and I'd imagine the school would make a big deal out of it. My teacher actually asked if anyone was the fist week of school but I didn't say I was.
Only about 5 people know and they got all excited...exactly why I try and keep it to myself.
I should post a video of me doing that! [I'm ambidextrous as well, and have a fun time writing left handed!] In case you didn't know, I used to be right handed full time too.

It's not so special, i can do it too.
I'm a lefty, and about a year ago i thought myself to write using my right hand.
It was hard at first, but everyone can do it.
besides, many years ago lefties were forced to become right handed, and they were able to write both hands.
michalaimic 2 years ago
I'm not claiming to be "so special." I'm just developing traits that I find interesting and fun, and encourage people to do the same.
It's only ego-driven people who feel they have to be "special" or "better" than everyone else, and never really are.
It's not the skill itself that is special, it's the mindset that you can develop skills that you don't normally have.
That you decided to teach yourself is what makes it special, not fact that anyone can write with any particular hand
