Mingus in awesome form on this clip (as always) - check out the extraordinarily advanced, complex bass lines here and that Mingus sound - he is reflecting and bouncing off the piano, the drummer and the tenor simulatneously, with very complex rhythms and harmonies, at a very fast tempo - and he NEVER misses.
Mingus always put up such great bands and soloists and his personality was so dominant that sometimes I think his musicianship is neglected - he was a MONSTER on that upright.
Like all the Jazz Set shows, this was actually taped in Trenton, NJ. The date was May 9, 1972 and it was aired by PBS August 10. The personnel is Lonnie Hillyer, trumpet; Charles McPherson, alto sax; Bobby Jones, tenor sax; John Foster, piano; Mingus, bass; Roy Brooks, drums. Yes, Mingus was in a great mood all day.
@BertsBreeze - "when he's smilin, the whole world smiles with him" - few joys compare to that of seeing the brooding, sullen Mingus break out into a smile when he gets off on his guys playing hot. Charles Mingus was JAZZ INCARNATE.

We see that Mingus can also get off white guys - they just have to know how to play...
