Yeah maybe not the jarred baby meat, but my 1 yr old daughter loves chicken (plain not covered in sauce). She's liked meat ever since she could handle little bits cut up.. She spits out peas now does that mean she hates veggies. lol
this is wrong on so many levels, they take a totally unhealthy piece of meat and even worse load it up with BBQ sauce,, and give it to their kid!?!? Great parenting......sheesh do some research and give your kids healthy food.
Our children eat what we eat and since we are there to guide them wouldn't it be better if we were to think before we show our children a diet that will eventually kill them? Love is a plant based diet!
I did love my meat but made a change due to health reasons. I went from eating meat each night (a slab of rump at BBQ's) to now eating meat size & thickness as the palm of my hand weekly. I for one am feeling so much better for doing so, don't miss the change and have less cravings. Substituting sugar and going from 3 teaspoons to none, no more soft drinks or cordial. My health is improving. I don't miss that either I have a mouth full of crowns to prove just how bad sugar was for me.
I was given a scrip and told I'd need to take high blood pressure tablets for the rest of my life. I was obese + pre-diabetic. It woke me up. I got this way because of what I ate. I heard Dr. Barnard invite the public to a free talk on reversing diabetes. I'm happy to say my body is starting to heal itself. I lost 10 kilos and not on blood pressure tablets. I'm in process of eating more vegetables/beans/fruits/nuts/seeds and I for one am thankful for Dr Barnard's well researched advice.
I was getting more and more pissed off until the 30 second mark. As an experienced parent I can only laughably and angrily disagree with his summation that all babies act the same way towards meat, because my baby fuckin' loves to eat dead animals.
The idea that vegetarians are less likely to have cancer is false. Cancer is now being shown to be more genetics caused than anything else. In other words, if you eat organic vegan every day, drink only pure water, workout regularly, if your genetics say you are going to get cancer, all those "good" habits will do diddly squat to prevent you getting cancer. I have tried the traditional "low" fat approach only to find myself failing miserably.
Does Neal Barnard even have kids? Babies spit *everything* out. In the beginning it's tongue-thrust reflex; later on it's their way of trying to establish control over the feeding session. A lot of that spitting is silly parents trying to feed them solids too young. I waited til my daughter was nine or ten months old before introducing them and she did fine.
THATS GROSSSS!!!! WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE FEED THEIR BABIES
A FUCKING STEAK!! MY GOD. POOR BABIES ARE GOING TO GROW OVERWEIGHT ANGRY, DEPRESSED . VILOENT. FEED THEM REAL FOOD. NOT MEAT. NOW EVEN COWS EAT MEAT OR DRINK MILK
We are designed to eat meat too, hence 'canine' teeth...But I think it' can't be good to give a baby meat before all their teeth are out, especially the canine teeth!
Bull shit - my kids eat everything but if they could decide on their own diet they would stuff their mouth with candy and fizzy pop - babies are dumb - we know best.
Babies will quite happily eat chocolate, ice cream, raw sugar, honey and jam. Are they good food options for baby then? Hell I have seen babies try to eat dog shit. Here is a fucking clue: Letting baby eat what ever it wants does not a great parent make.
Meat isn't the problem...it is muscle meat that is carcinogenic. Organ meats are different. I don't know why people lump all meat in one category -_____-
this is bullshit. canceroginity has still be to proven! the existing studies aren't really reliable, at least not enough.
also it's always the amount of meat, that decides wheter a food is healthy or contrawise.
most ORGANS are VERY unhealthy - e.g. lungs and kidneys - technically these parts are simply INEDIBLE, brackish! they are often full of heavy metals, pollutants, hazardous and harmful substances.
still not taken to account-their terrible taste and shitty looks. ;)
@m0rbusPolytox If you're eating organ meat, you can eat nothing but animal and you will get all your nutritional needs met. Whoever told you organs were unhealthy was a moron. You can even get vitamin C from adrenal glands if you don't cook them at high heat in water. And your body doesn't have to process any of it specially to get the minerals out of it or put proteins together. It's all there ready to go. P.S., Sugar feeds cancer. How much sugar do you find in meat?
I do wish you challenged him a little more. I know it's not your style, but I've heard your Dean Ornish interview...I know you got it in you!
I really agree, Dr Bernard over generalized meat and you hit on this point once but he really crossed the line when he compared eating meats to smoking cigarettes. I Think Dr. Bernard need to take an anthropology course to learn about pre-historic man and the whole premise behind nomadic societies (ie go where the meat is).
this made me laugh. first time my daughter saw a bug crawl on her hand, she ate it. later she got old enough to catch them, and she's eaten tadpoles, fish, geckos, spiders. it took awhile before we trained her to ask first (didnt want her eating something with pesticide or parasites). she was 4 before she realized that society doesnt condone eating live animals and took it down a notch: now she just swipes raw meat in our kitchen whenever she can. we're trying to restrict her to beef only.
We are naturally predisposed to eat meat. If children instinctively were revulsed at meat then hunter gather tribes woud die out in one generation, because essentially their babies would starve after they stopped breast feeding. If SOME babies dislike meat the most probable cause is because these children are acclimated to eating high sugar, overly processed canned fruits (i.e. apple sauce) and other starches, and therefore can't stand anything else.
the problem is that he made up that story to fit his idea of how the world should be. it's not like he was citing any research to support his contention.
Babies don't want meat? LOL where is that dude from? Does he have babies? I got pics of my babies gnawing and slobbering ALL over ribs/bones. And stand by for a GROSS out, yes me DADDY even chewed small pieces for the little ones put it in their little mouths and the grins begin! God made meat for man, so, if it was good enough for His plan, its good enough for me :)
Hahahaha! BS, I didn't want to eat my greenbeans as a child. The only meat I didn't like was hot dogs. I was raised on red meat! Some scientists say that the adaptation of becoming omnivorous and eating meat lead to the growth of our brains (since the brain is like 1/4 cholesterol, I hear). Babies don't want meat...HA!
I actually listened to this interview and no offense to you Jimmy but I thought you'd be better prepared at countering some of Dr. Barnard's arguments with regards to meat eating and carcinogenicity in general. However, there was one point made near the end about LDL/HDL cholesterol that you defended pretty well.
@mikek241 THANKS Mike! You know my style isn't to beat people over the head like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly do. I try to be respectful and listen to what my guests have to say even when it runs counter to my own beliefs. THANKS for the feedback, but this strategy works to keep my podcast both professional and open to people like Dr. Barnard.
@livinlowcarbman Well I guess you have to define what age you consider a child to be a baby. I always thought a baby did not have the proper teeth development needed to be able to physically digest meat.
@mikek241 You'd be better off feeding meat to a baby first, than feeding them grain cereal first. I wish I'd known that when I first introduced my kids to solids. Giving them cereal gives them too much of a taste for grain, and grain's the least nutritionally beneficial of the so-called "food groups" we eat today. Meat's a way better source of B vitamins, vegetables are a way better source of fiber, and there's no dietary requirement for starch.
