@cvunit they werent with him at the time of his death. he had his own group of fighters for protection,on the road this was like a convoy of 100 vehicles incl. busses, apc's..after qatar had foot on the ground and nato was bombing excessively (aug-sep) he offered all the people close to and around him to leave or go their own way.... then he went to Sirte, his hometown, where almost everybody was loyal and willing to fight for him and the country. He was a real man, and died like a real man.

@theorbo1 Don't be naive, Gaddafi was guilty as sin when it came to supporting terrorism, or "national liberation movements" or "armed non-state actors" or whatever you want to call them. His magnanimity in that regard is well documented. Gaddafi may not have been head of the Libyan government, but he WAS head of state [ie. figurehead]. He represented Libya locally and internationally. He spoke on Libya's behalf at the UN. As far as I'm concerned, that's enough for him to qualify for that role.

But there is a sense of toughness in crisis situations that can't be apprehended in simple training. Plus the nature of male is more solid and less fluid so I would rely on them for loyalty aswell.
