@MegaRobJones If you look around you will need to find a boost gauge that can handle loads of psi. from what i've heard diesel engines with turbos run higher boost
@saga212 yer 4 something :P we actully tuned the turbo down cos the factory one got damaged and was replaced wit an after market one so we tuned it down cos this new one is really powerful and because it mostly just dos runs to and from the city it dosnt need the 30psi available all the time if you towed huge loads or were offroading yer have it up high but for road use 9-12psi is good enough for just getting around
Fitted a swoosh sw68 vacuum gauge (which often gets mistaken for a boost gauge by my friends) a very usefull upgrade for a none turbo car ,It will help you set up your carb and help you drive more economically in paticular long runs . but make sure you fit it after the butterfly valve for the most accurate reading . p.s. It looks pretty fuckin cool to lol . nice one lads love your youtube vids .
TO EVERYONE WHO ASKS IF THEY CAN USE A BOOST GAUGE:
if you need to ask, you don't need one/shouldn't have one.
but to clear it up, if you have a turbo, and you race a lot, a boost gauge would come in handy. but if both of those things don't apply, it's a waste of money.
can you do a install of a Air Fuel Ratio gauge... maybe with a wideband o2 sensor as well to get a proper reading :) cheers boys... even go as far to install a oil press and water temp too, hehe
@iSypha for some reason I think the boost gauge actually helps hp a little bit. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but I was getting ready to turbo my car and I installed a boost gauge first and it reads vacuum so I took it for a little ride and notice a slight difference in power. I think when you acclerate, some air is compressed in the lines of the boost gauge and when you let go of the gas those air are suck back into the engine+ the next gears incoming air helps it.
Great Videos Guys! I am watching all of your videos and I have yet to be disappointed. I don't live in Australia so I don't know how top gear is there but you could probably take over a couple of Canadian DIY shows down here. I would much rather watch you two than any other DIY show around. Keep up the good work fellas and I hope to get a donation in as soon as I get a Credit Card(1 month hopefully). Thanks again guys!:)
I installed it back in the 2008, and havent had any problems with it. And how the fuel would even get to the "wrong" side of intake manifold? On diesel engine, fuel is sprayed straight into the cylinders and i should have no change to get to the boost gauge. At least i think. If someone knows better, please correct. (And im sorry for my English, im just a simple Finn...)
@amiskorolla It's cool i didnt even realise you weren't english speaking until you said so.. maybe for sedans, but for 4x4 diesels i have heard from people who have done it is that it sprays diesel in the engine bay.
Basics should still be the same. When we installed boost gauge to my friends Nissan Patrol 4x4 diesel while ago. We needed to weld a "nipple" to intercooler pipe (engine side of the cooler) and take the pressure from there. It worked fine, except gauge"rattled" like crazy. (probably because it was cheapest gauge in the market :D) We solved that problem by putting a mopeds fuel filter on the vacuum line. And i have never heard about those fuel sprays... Try and see for your self.
Now that helped me a lot! If you have old beaten up turbo, with crappy bearings it will "leak" some oil in to the intake system and may cause oil spills and power loss if things start to leak. There is my guess. So if you car doesn't burn oil, you should have no problem with installing a boost gauge...
Hi, how do you remove it? The tube on the gauge seems to be very snug fit and won't budge when I pull it. I need to remove the gauge temporarily to access the wirings under the dash.
actually u can plug your tube for the boost guage into your regulator in a non turbo car and it can show u if there is any air leak in any cylinder.... it would show 20 on the vacuum side and will go up an down like boost but would not past 0 psi ... if a cylinder has a leak it would read 15 (5) for each cylinder .....dumbasses
your the dumbass, nothing there is true, rxcept the fact u can hook it up to a car with no boost and it wont read past 0psi. go spin your shit to mates wholl believe you.
@felixcruzazul Major advantage seeing as I'm left handed! It doesn't matter either way what hand you shift with. I was out in Canada for 2 months and had to drive a LHD land rover, took to it straight away no problems at all. If you know how to work a stick shift it shouldn't be a major drama.
yep thats how the majority of boost gauges are installed. Dont know why people dont just get a pillar pod...especially when they are using small form factor gauges
...Um I dont want to be mean but work on the spealing, You can install a boost guage into your car but you wont be able to connect to anything to important. Plus your just going to get made fun of. Just wait untill the vehical you drive has the turbo in before installing. Untill then have fun
