  • words so sad? i dont think so

  • love it! good mems!

  • Ok. I this Morrissey is a great singer. Dancer -- NO!

  • RIP Shelagh Delaney. <3 This is my favourite Smiths song as well. :)

  • Shelagh Delaney RIP

  • I find the ads plastered on the face of this video advertising Citroen car parts really adds to the Smiths experience............NOT!

  • great singing...and voice... for a gaybie

  • Comment removed

  • I love !!!! j'ai découvert the smiths il y a quelques mois ,j'ai acheté leur best of et depuis, je les écoute presque tous les jours !! cette chanson est une de mes préférées, so british.

  • Ain't heard this tune in years :) Stoked :)

  • Why are all of you consumed by his sexuality???? Who cares? He's a wonderful artist! That is what matters.

  • wearing flowers in his pocket doesn't make him gay ... oh wait. forget it.

  • kill me

  • My all-time favorite group. Fell in love with them as a sad, lonely 12 year old in 1985. Later, at 16, in a juvenile mental hospital (depression), the cute boy in the room next door, knowing I was a "Smithy" as he said, asked me to sing these lyrics through the wall outlet to him - a way we realized we could communicate without the nurses hearing us. Good times. Morrissey, I'll ALWAYS love you...

  • This is a test. %#@& youtube is making this hard...

  • Morrissey is the poet for the people.

  • Morrisey and The Smiths gave us ballads about gay and socially awkward straight relationships. What is not to love?

  • 38 people are genuine morriseys

  • Is he gay then?

  • @whereangelsplay1 no he just wears flowers in his pockets

  • @whereangelsplay1 Who fucking cares? Do you like his music or don't you?

  • @whereangelsplay1 he's bi, but he's said that he's grown bored of both men and women.

  • @whereangelsplay1 don't be such a dick, he is 'asexual' - let me dumb that down for you; he isn't turned on/interested in either sex. Simple enough for you ??

  • @violator9 erm I think not. Have you listened to anything he's written in the last 20 years? Let's start with Come Back to Camden. Morrissey is very much not asexual :) He has a life like everyone else - for which I am very grateful ;)

  • hang the dj

  • Boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear!

  • 大好き!

  • The Smiths had same the credentials as The Beatles. Hey Dude was released as a single, not an album track. So was this. Not a lot of people know that. M and M released these gems as gifts to the listener, not as ads for albums. Now, all wanky bands with shit hair do that. These fellas didn`t have to. They were made, and duly relased, as bullet-proof songs in their own right.

  • Tá bom tá bom ... sairei pra encontrar quem eu amo ... rs Sérgioooo cadê vc?

  • Tá bom tá bom ... sairei pra encontrar quem eu amo ... rs Sérgioooo cadê vc?

  • Music doesn't get much better than this: fact.

  • 0:06 - 0:08 <3

  • @awm21295 The best part is 1:28 1:32 when Johnny Marr lets go of his guitar!

  • I wonder how many of those English lassies are still bonable?

  • All these TOTP performances are art.

  • MTV onced criticized Morrissey by long forgotten VJ Mark Goodman where he said.... "Morrissey dances like a penguin and sings like a tortured choir boy" -- sadly Goodman is MIA, and the bands that he supported - the ever laughable Triumph, and the ever forgettable Asia, have gone ass down in history along with him. GO MOZ

  • morrissey can dance better than jb

  • explains how i feel...

  • I remember this was controversial at the time because he sung "I'm a girl & you're a boy". My my how times have changed

  • LOL TOTP was such a mockery of music. This song rules though

  • A classic.

  • The Smiths at their rocking best. Morrissey's dancing in this video is sooo funny! :)

  • Morrissey wrote his best lyrics with the Smiths. None of his solo material matches the lyrical quality of his work with the Smiths.

  • I think some people are missing the point. Morrissey's words have been the voice of a generation and beyond, especially when combined with the genius of Marr's guitar. Why bring sexuality into it? Smiths songs are about our lives, not his.

  • I guess what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't mind having Morrissey for a next-door neighbor so you are going to get the mail and you say "oh hi Morrissey, what's up?" and he says "oh nothing" and you are like "yeah cool, TTYL bro".

  • I will say this: Morrissey is an amazing song writer and it makes me feel somehow good to admire a total flaming queen. Like if you are gonna be gay, why not totally go all the way? So I end up with something like the hetero version of gay pride. I want my gay friends to be gay and PROUD. And besides, my gay friends have really wickedly good senses of humor.

  • I have no strong opinion about his shirt

  • I like his shirt...

  • morrissey and the smiths really mastered their art at this point in their career, didnt they!

  • 38 now still sad reminds me of bad things ho i love to chat to him sing a poem i wrote at 13

  • "And after all this time"???*** Morrissey take a bow !!!

  • @RachaelPoole A friend of mine recommended me The Smiths, and they have a certain air of darkness, but definitely not depressing, The Cure is depressive :P

  • @shossni haha true! I love them both! So awesome.. :)

  • 90% of men dance like that but once we're home alone, that's why besides all I admire Moz for being ready to perform like that in front of hundreds of people:)

    greets from Poland

  • Assolutamente un capolavoro!

  • This video amuses the hell out of me.

  • This is when they forced you to mime your own songs for the TV. Most people played along but as you can see Morrissey wasn't feeling it. Basically this is one step below standing still, staring straight into the camera and giving the middle finger the entire time.

  • @pulpfresh I just can't believe how YOUNG they look! I dunno, I think he's doing the fag routine pretty well. Look at him shaking his but like a brazen hussy! I'm sorry, I just can't watch this with a straight face.

  • @pulpfresh Nirvana did the same thing on TOTP, they just took the piss when they were asked to mime.

  • @pulpfresh How did you know that you daft cow? I had to put up with cunts, and AXL ROse kids, and poo. I am 40 and at age I caught the end of this. I bought the last bits of plastic in 1987. So I gave The Smiths my cash. It was effin everything. Not the cash but the life and the feeling. You will never know.

  • @pulpfresh

    jonny's having fun

  • @thitipolp He always makes a point, whenever he is told that he must perform with the studio recording, to never use a microphone. He did it on TotP all the time.

  • @HouseOfPwn Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @thitipolp it's a piss take... I would feel stupid 'singing' into a mircophone when the programme producers wanted me to mime...

  • la la la la la la laaaaaaaa!

  • going out tonight to see a tribute act called 'The Smyths' in Derby uk, i really hope they do this one!!!

  • boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear

  • Morrissey is adorable. :D

  • @RachaelPoole I get you, but it's hard to simply dismiss the lyrics! His dancing and mannerisms are actually mocking the listeners.

  • @Roggiedodgie

It would have been a lot easier to follow this conversation with RachaelPoole if youtube got rid of the "Comments" section and instead used a message board type format.

  • @RachaelPoole morisseys dancing is meant to take the piss out of people who think dancing is important

  • @Dazzler59 it still makes me smile !

  • Boot the grime of the world in the crutch dear you cant whack those lyrics

  • the smiths songs gave me much happiness while i was alive

  • This song exhibits the flowing 'bop' or whatever it's called that I totally get into. Geniuses they are. A similar example is "I Started Something I Coudn't Finish". Now, where is that one here?

  • the smiths made great music for everyone, everyone loves the smiths

  • Oh Dear 30 People Missed The Like Button!

  • ahaha I love Morrissey to death, but his dancing makes me want to hug him and punch him in the face at the same time.

this has my favourite smiths line ever: boot the grime of this world in the crotch dear...

  • i like this song very much but in the spirit of moz i hit dislike.

  • @bigbigsound big mouth strikes again

  • Gibson 355 12 string guitar, lovely (L).

  • This my favourite Smiths song

  • sheila take a, sheila take a bow .....la la lalala <3

  • 29 Dislikes. 29 Ignorant fools!

  • @xdaggersx Agreed! Anyone who dislikes ANY Smiths song is an imbecile! I think the sort of person who dislikes these are the sort of people of my generation who like the rap culture, and overlook the lyrics entirely. I mean, of course the tune completes the mood the song conveys, but they'd probably overlook that aswell!

  • watch johnny marr from 1:28 to 1:32 legend haha

  • @RachaelPoole it's true i love his dance in A boy with the thorn in his side, it's so relaxing!

  • who knew at the time (1986) we were looking at a genius super talented band only rivaled by the pixies

  • @RachaelPoole - agreed. I wonder why Moz does not do that sort of hip-swinging dance any more? Old age, I guess.

  • Bahaha, I love how Morissey prances about.

  • the smiths! moz's dancing = brilliant!

  • Morrissey is so amazing

  • Morrissey looks like hes quite enjoying 1:46 haha

  • I used to listen to this song all day when I got unemployed... I was so happy I could finally sleep!!!

The Smiths are my one reason to smile every day

  • Fucking Masterpiece!

  • morrissey dances so good!! he's wonderful! in this vid and in November Spawned... he's at his best dancing moves:)))

  • I Love these guys so much<3

  • aww im well stealing those moves !! the ladys will flock!

  • @theory501 Yeah, they're flock to the other side of the room.

  • @PlaceOfOrigin zing

  • What's with Morrissey's dancing moves from 1:45 onwards!

  • @GlAmPoPpRiNcEsS Its MORRISSEY. Why do you need to ask?!

  • I do love Mozz's dancing. Diggin' that New Wave Shuffle.

  • fantastic, essa musica é muito boa

  • the smiths are the best band in the 80s even though i wasnt alive at the time i still hear te smiths

  • the smiths ..blueprint of indipendant music ,champions of the bedsit dweller....will always own my soul

  • I get the feeling Morrissey was mocking the '80s while it was still the '80s.

  • I'll bet Sheila is Steven Patrick Morrissey's sister.

  • @arimacias He's referring to Shelagh Delaney

  • @arimacias Nahhh that's Jackie

  • the greatest band of the 80's, and probably up there with the beatles, despite the limited output of the group, due to their-much too early-demise.

just imagine what they could have achieved had they got a few more years under their collective belt.

    wonderous genius!

  • this was lip synched it think this is from top of the pops

  • Genius coupled with joy= priceless.

  • come out and find the one that you love...

  • lol his dancing sooo funny ! go out find one you lovee lalalalalala !

  • I'm a girl and you're a boy.......

  • I always wondered why I had a penis, thanks.

  • you've got to love the red balloon that looks as though it hit andy in the face.

  • toby take a bow.

  • throw your homework onto the fire

  • i think theres always a smiths lyric for every thing in life

  • @VirusSyndicate sooo.true.

  • @VirusSyndicate there is deffinitley

  • cool story bro

  • I was about 1 when they split up, but I have had their music (and mozza's solo stuff afterwards) played to me ever since I was born

  • @sheilatakeabow1990 That's cool and it's Moz not mozza ;)

  • Don't think it matters really, he's still a genius ;)

  • lol you are so right :)

  • I love morrisseys dancing.

This is the song to describe my life :)

  • I almost laughed my ass off. God I love his dance! He is such a great entertainer! (They provoked it, all the silly ballons and paper streamers...)

I would give my right arm to see The Smiths live but back then, but I was just in kindergarten. :(

  • Love Johnny at 1:30. cute!

  • i love watching Morrissey perform

his dancing is so cute :)

  • Marr and Morrissey are clearly taking the piss out of having to mime, they did it on top of the pops too

  • i think the dancing is deliberately ironic tbh

  • LOVE this!

  • Ive got fond memories u/k 80's as a teenager.

The smiths, adidas trimm trabs, farahs and ben shermans.

Fingering girls behind skips of bricks, them were the days!

    Get in!

  • HAHAHAHA..you got it carbonbodyworker lmao!

  • pmsl ace init

    Cheers fella

  • my sister is a huge smiths fan, i have grown up with them all my life and think they are one of the most important bands ever, better than the beatles, but that dancing?!?!?!?!?!

  • that dancing is very gayish. but come on, he was one, with a very big crush on James Dean.

  • ahh 1:45 onwards is the kind of moment in music where anything in this world is possible!

  • I hate when men put cologne on their balls... its gross!

  • this is my favourite Smiths song by a mile.

"boot the grime of this world in the crotch dear"

  • Nah....back to the old house.

"when you cycled by here began all my dreams the saddest thing id ever seen."

  • hhaa love morrisey dance XD

  • all you need is me

    VIVA MORRISSEY

  • Genius

  • get well my dear...OXOXOOXOXO

  • i usually listen to obscure avant garde metal and i like to tell everybody on youtube but recently i've been listening to the smiths and the sound of my own pretense.

  • hahaha the way he is feeling the sound of his musik on stage is soo damn funny love them !!! <3

  • I'll be listening to this song (along with all their stuff) for the rest of my life

  • every smiths song is amazing, its remarkable

  • LOVE the smiths! mostly listen to underground metal but the smiths kick fuckin ass, brilliant

  • It seems to me that a lot of people who listen to predominantly metal have a thing for The Smiths, don't know why really, just kinda happens.

  • they tend to be quite into jazz too

  • I love metal so damn much, and I love The Smiths, but I've been rocking The Smiths since I was very little because my dad always played it, but I got into Black Metal and such when I was 9, so it's been a fairly symbiotic relationship for my whole life.

  • i luv metal and moz/smiths too

those two are so meaning in my life

nice to know someone that has the same feeling

  • morrisey is so badass he doesnt need a mic.

  • lol mime

  • i love the smiths <33333

  • Amazing.

  • lol!! i love the dance! why don't singers do this kinda stuff anymore??

  • @annergizer cuz if you're doing it, you're just doing morrisey...

  • @annergizer That's why I've always liked Morrissey, never taken himself too seriously.
