i used to live there , theirs nothing wrong with red road , yeah there may be junkies and that there , you get that EVERYWHERE not just in red road .. its kind of offensive when you think of saying all the junkies live in red road when they are everywhere :/

It was not the place where all the junkies go, I lived there 15 years ago, ok I saw junkies but there were some respectable people there too, you get people like Junkies almost everywhere not necessary just the red road flats, I had great neughbours when I lived there, very sociable and helpful, clean respectable, but they were not junkies, one of them even helped fit my living room carpet, great people.

@heythanksbutnothanks, appreciate your comment thanx, but sadly, this is where all the junkies go now. maybe not 15 years ago, but for the hour i was there, i experienced many alcohlics and junkies and was almost swimming in used syringes, empty bottles, used sanitary towels and other filth. no one else to blame apart from the government for allowing it. im fully aware many people share many happy memories about this place, and i dont doubt that for a minute... but those days are long gone

@vix2501 I will miss them in the Glasgow Skyline, and I really did have a happy live living there, I think that is why I feel so sad as I had so many happy memorable times there. I totally agree with you though about the government, they should have kept on top of it, they just let it go, but possibly because they maybe knew in advance that eventually they were going to take them down.

I remember there was a housing office round the corner where the wee shops were, that looks pretty run down now and I reckon that has not been a housing office for years now. I taken a trip up there recently and I did get a shock even how round that way had went to wreck and ruin, they used to be quite nice flats, a lot nicer than the Kingsway flats in their time.

I was born in Glasgow's East End within a proud 'military' family; and statistics are statistics. 22 Regiment' is of course a secretive, but that depends upon where one is in relation to the Hereford (Credenhill) family...exceedingly tight and cohesive. it was mainly boredom that caused it. high unemployment and nothing to do....no clubs, shops or places to go. people squashed in like sardines and lots of unrest. the spirit of the place (and the people) was crushed.....why bother doing a place up when you cant even feed your family?

its great your so optimistic but you obviously have never had to live in a place like that.....should think yourself lucky and try not to judge!

i grew up in Barmulloch, the area highlighted on 52 seconds is were we used to go and drink our wine to hide from the police, im now 28 and have left Barmulloch, its not til u leave u realise how bad the area is, im now settled with a family and would NEVER go back, the thought of my daughter doing the stuff i got up 2 back in Barmulloch terrifies me, ive got alot of good memories its not all doom and gloom, but my advice is if uv got kids is GET OUT!!!!,

Actually, those places are certainly no better than the Eastern European communist-era apartment blocks that many of the asylum seekers from Eastern Europe would have lived in back in their own country.

Our government will give reasonable flats to petty criminals and drug addicts on housing benefits with no jobs, but will give far worse slums to asylum seekers and refugees. A prime example of the government putting its own citizens before foreigners, no matter who they are.

Well, the style of the BUILDINGS in Eastern Europe was the same at the beginning, however I can honestly say, that I've never seen blocks of flats as ugly as that until I came to Glasgow.

Loads of people live in high flats in our country and it's a perfectly acceptable way of living! The blocks are undergoing regeneration (for which the people mostly pay themselves of course) and buying a flat in these blocks is almost as expensive as buying a flat anywhere else.

It's not the buildings, it's the people and honestly, I don't understand the idea that is behind the demolition of these places in Glasgow. I mean OK, you demolish the places and then what? The neds won't just disappear (unless you demolish the buildings with the neds inside which I don't think is a part of the plan). So what will happen to those people? Mostly all immigrants and poor people live in them.. they are supposed to be coming down within the next few years, mainly because they were poorly built and maintained, asbestos etc .. i have worked in them a couple of times .. the view from them is amazing lol oh well

Yeah one of the wide ones was but they then declared it unfit for students and refugees to live in .. this is gonna be the first one to come down. there is loads of tower blocks and estates all over Glasgow on the same boat, there is alot of regeneration happening.
