This song is from "The Final Cut". It was meant to be Roger Waters' first solo album. Unfortunately, the record label insisted on releasing it as a Pink Floyd album, creating a dispute that ensured no more "true" Pink Floyd releases. On the back of the album it says "By Roger Waters. Performed by Pink Floyd". Gilmour and Mason were little more than hired hands showing up to perform on a handful of tracks. Gilmour shares vocals on "Not Now John", but that's it.

@davesheehan07 you are mistaken. this song was released on Pink Floyd's final album with Roger, "The Final Cut". and i may be wrong but i believe this song does not appear on the album you mentioned.
@EyeHawk777 as a Marine Archaeologist i can confidently tell you that the majority of ships and submarines launched during WWII were launched sideways. The ones you see sliding backwards (usually after some bird has smashed a perfectly good bottle of bubbly on them) were passenger liners mostly. Launching them sideways is a whole lot cheaper and easier than building a 'slip' at an angle into the water. Hope that helps.
It is easy to be anti-war when what we are fighting for looks so shakey, but what if the UK and the USA had not gone to war against the Japanese empire and the Nazis?
An English poet is still a faithful reminder of the truths that we still ignore........................Will anyone eva go past the amusement of knowledge and begin the REVOLUTION??????????????????????
It is convenient that an anti-war mentality will show the devastation of war and turn a sympathetic eye to the (losers --often the perpetrators) victims, as if there was absolutely no pain or loss or annihilation prior to the actual war. I am against the crimes which precede a war, but I am NOT anti-war. I STILL Love the music and lyrics of this band (even though I have always known of the anti-war sympathies of the members) !
