  • I didn't know about this song from batman, but i am soooo happy that he made others know great music like this. :)

  • wow

  • I looooove this version! i don't know what it is, but it gives me chills!

  • Well the photo is of Ella Fitzgerald, the song is sung by Lillian Boutte

  • Batman brought me here.

  • Wow what a surprise....just great. don't understand the negativity about her not being in the same league as Ella....apples and oranges...you can like both

  • Batman did the perfect singing in this song.

  • love this song. love her voice.

  • Batman brought me here

  • Can't really tell, but this sounds a bit more as saxophone rather than clarinet?

    Nice performance either way

  • go batman

  • Batman rules

  • Check out my a cappella version of this song!

  • Last time I heard this song live was in the Roosevelt Hotel bar in L.A. in 1972. It certainly wasn't Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday but they were good enough for an enduring memory.

  • this was in a movie about some guy singing this song but i cant remember it someone help me

  • @ANBPyro It was sung by Hoagy Carmichael (along with Lauren Bacall) in the Humprey Bogart film, To Have and Have Not. There is a nice clip of this from the movie on here if you want to check it out.

  • Thanks for posting, came looking for videos of this song as it's in the NYT crossword. I see some have criticized the singer but as with all jazz, it's the singer + the musicians that make things cook, and I think this is a great recipe. According to an amazon uk commentary, this Lillian Boutte song is backed up by: "the Marsala brothers, Marty on trumpet and Joe on clarinet, Eddie Condon on guitar and Stan King on drums, but further mystery surrounds the pianist, Queenie Ada Rubin."

  • @ecanuck Thank you for the comment. I was looking for that information.

  • Merci

  • is she crying or dying?

  • This ain't Ella as advertised. You need to change the title of this page. This singer, whoever the hell it is, wouldn't be hired to get Ella coffee.

  • Ok sorry guys. It's Lillian Boutté for sure. I couldn't be sure before I uploaded this.

  • @lazza00 I knew it was not Ella

  • Time to slow dance with your best gal :)

  • It's Lillian Boutté, I bought her version from iTunes and this is the exact same. An incredibly beautiful version by the way.

  • wow...i love jazz so much

  • When your alone and the one you loved is gone, yes, we are blue. The memories are so good that the blues don't last. But, yah I'm blue and if you knew the love I've known you'd be blue too. Love ya Old Man!

  • I have had this recording for years and did not know who sang it. I searched youtube for the title and found it was Lillian Boutte. It is a great recording but it is clearly not Ella. She sounded nothing like this at any stage in her career. I have been an Ella fan since about 1980.

  • This is most definitely NOT Ella Fitzgerald signing.

  • ce n'est pas Ella Fitzgerald c'est sur

  • This is not Ella Fitzgerald. Pls change the title!

  • One of the all time great vocalists ever in the world. She can really sing with out any help from studio technology the way most singers are helped today.

  • Old school jazz rocks

  • Her voice is beautiful

  • This is the great New Orleans Jazz Singer Lillian Boutte....Not Ella

  • @misbreadfruit Oh my god!! This is the version of Am I Blue? that I currently have! I have been looking for the singer of this song for almost 6 years!

It is DEFINITELY not Ella Fitzgerald.

  • @Sshelly34213 Lillian Boutte I think is in her 40s on this rendition of Am I Blue?...She is now 60 or 61. She has a brother who is also a great Singer by the name of John Boutte. She also has a niece who sings although her name slips me right now. They all have postings here on youtube. Lillian still sounds great and performs frequently in New Orleans and Germany.

  • @misbreadfruit Thanks so much! I'll definitely have to check them out, I can't believe I finally found out who sang this version. I never thought I'd find it.

  • @Sshelly34213 No prob..Enjoy

  • touches my soul

  • This isn't Ella.

  • this certainly IS NOT ella fitzgerald.

  • Anyone saying this isn't Ella, doesn't know their Ella Fitzgerald. This is an old recording, when she was much younger

  • @W8ingForGodot This is a SInger by the name of Lillian Boutte. Its not Ella Fitzgerald.

  • no way is this ella

  • this is just not Ella, she sings in a different different way, this is not her style moreover the inflections are very rare, Ella had never ever sang like this.

  • Nope, it is not Ella for sure.

  • Certanly this is not Ella...

  • This is NOT Ella....not even close.

  • I wonder if we can have Batman's cover of the song but in full?

  • @aribbaandalay

I've been dying to hear an uninterrupted/full version of Batman's amazing voice singing this amazing song ever since I saw that Justice League Episode. I wonder why they don't produce an album full of different League members singing different songs. After all, most of them sound good when they sing. That anime, BLEACH, has albums with each voice actor singing a couple of songs. NO FAIR, I say.

  • OMFG! This is NOOOT Ella!!! How could you do this to her, why did you, why???

haha, now, seriously, try listening to a couple of HER songs. This could never be her, NEVER.

  • Neither the voice nor the technique sounds like Ella. The recording and accompaniment style also sound way, way too modern. I don't buy it at all.

  • definitely not Ella

  • this is done by "Lillian Boutté"

  • batman does a great cover

  • @lazza00 I agree, this does NOT sound like Ella, but it DOES sound Great!

  • I am an Ella devotee and this is definitely not her but it's definitely a good recording :) I think Blue Skies is a good example of her younger singing

  • i don't think its Ella.. The piano guy is doing figures that sound more modern. Her players didnt do stuff like that.. A good imitation.. She wouldnt have gone for that piano style to back her up.. That last chord by the piano guy? Ella would have nixed it

  • Batman does an awesome cover of this.

  • @Soldier0Cross word.

  • @Soldier0Cross Batman has the best version, yet typical of the creators to accidentally do something good like that and not make a soundtrack.

  • this is not ella!

  • @willshakeyou not only the tone but the whole interpretation and ornamentation is not ella like. Sorry x/

  • @lazza00 no! Bruce Wayne's version is better ;p

  • not ella. not billie. not dinah. bet my life on it.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think it's Ella. It just doesn't sound like her voice. The tone isn't the same as Ella's. It kinda sounds like someone who has just styled themselves on Ella's way of singing.

  • Sorry to inform you, but this is either Billie Holiday or Dinah Washington. But, it definitely isn't Ella.

  • ALWAYS GREAT

  • This is Absolutely NOT Ella.

  • I don't care what you say... this is not Ella Fitzgerald.

  • I'm 99.9% shure that this is Lillian Boutté voc with Sammy Rimington on sax!

  • No. No. No. Not Ella. Good though.

  • Good version, but that's certainly not Ella!

  • This is not Ella. I've listened to plenty of younger Ella. This ain't Ella.

  • Def not Ella!

  • this is NOT ella fitzgerald, people. terrible version.

  • this is NOT Ella.

  • Yeah it is not a very good version!! What misic are you into?

  • I still think billie holiday sang it better! This kinda sucks

  • Billie Holiday's was great, but this song's been done by many people and this version is certainly one of the better ones. Ethel Waters was the first, and she's almost as good as Billie in singing it.

But my favorite is Teddi King. Some may disagree, but I think she's underrated and the arrangement of the song when she does it is killer.

  • And Cher's is definitely worst

    : )

  • This is not Ella Fitzgerald though. And I agree with you that billie's is certainly better than this one.

  • I thing - everybody have different opinion... ;-)

  • It's not Ella Fitzgerald. I searched Amazon MP3 downloads for "Am I blue" and listen to the different versions. This version is by Lillian Boutte.

  • Are you people daft, this is most certainly Ella.

  • @leiaiel obviously we weren't daft as you can see it's Lillian Boutte

  • Its not Ella or Sarah....sounds relatively recent...

  • Don't know anymore than any of you folks but it sounds like Sarah Vaughn to me . Who ever it is , it's a great version . Thanks for putting this up and I hope you solve the mystery of who this . They deserve the credit for a great performance .

  • That's not Ella

  • It is
