I think the new 1204USB has build in USB and doesn't have an external USB interface anymore. Correct me if i am wrong.
The main problem is that the USN streams the mains stereo output from the mixer, there is no multitrack stream to the DAW which makes it only a multi input 24-bit single out A/D converter.
hey im a singer/rapper . if i hook up my mic (audio technica) to the mixer then to my computer. will it record right away or do i need interface or phantom power?
@Liildiice260 hook up your mic to the XENYX X1204USB mixer and you can record right away, the new models have the usb interface built into them, and have a phantom power switch on the back
@w1ck3dad4m Good day. The use of a mixer together with a microphone is to maintain a high level of desired signal while minimizing the noise floor(feed back), which is commonly referred to as a good signal-to-noise ratio. A microphone condenser can make your voice sound better compare to ordinary microphone when you're recording in a studio.
Will somebody please help explain to me the basic parts of Behringer mixer, like, what is the line in mono, aux ret, aux mon, send...what is INSERT and how is it diff from Line....please help..tnx .
I bought this mixer yesterday and i couldnt connected with my mac. I have a mac book pro and i have also a presonus firebox sound card. I also did it with the u-control uca200 operating manual but it doesnt work ¿do you know how to do it? thank you very much
@lizompantli go to the behringers website and download the drivers for mac and select USB on recording in your software, that should do the trick, if not your rca cables are probably switched to outpout - output instead of output - input
I have read the mixer manual and drivers and special configuration are not needed, its just "plug and play". The RCA cables are correctly switched. Dont understand whats going on, maybe press some button, its driving me crazy, thank you very much anyway
;) funny, man. i tell you what, you will realize no difference which recording console has been used when you´re routing your signal through a spl goldmike and then into the mixer...there no difference between behringer, mackie, yamaha, wahtever. it´s just a part that routs the signal, nothing more. you don´t need the 48V or the preamps when you´ve real prof. equipment (goldmike etc.).
I'm not talking about Goldmike, I'm talking about the Behringer Mixer and this video.
It's an amateur mixer - even Uli Behriger wouldn't deny that - no matter if it has faders or knobs, that's all wanted to say. I don't say that it isn't worth the money though. :)
Okay, Well, the 1204 has the channel faders instead of the the things you turn, the 1202 has 4 stereo inputs well as the 1204 only has 2, the 1204 has a sub mix and the other one dosent also the 1204 has a channel mute button and finally the 1204 has XLR outputs for the main mix well as the 1202 has 1/4 Jack outputs.
There the only differences i could think of.
Oh, and the 1204 has a aux send thing in each channel strip...
I just tried to hook up through the XLR outputs into speakers. I plugged my guitar into the quarter inch. No sound comes out unless I turn the gain up all the way. Even then it's very quiet and heavily distorted when it's not supposed to be. Same with the control room outs. Phantom Power helps none.
Firstly, ensure you're using powered speakers, i.e. with amplifiers. Next, if you're plugging your guitar into the mic fader, press the LINE IN button. If not, connect to the non microphone faders, i.e. faders 5/6 or 7/8. Phantom power is used for microphones plugged into the mixer via XLR only.

hey, im thinking about buying my 1st mixer and have been researching them for a couple of months now, i want to connect it to my computer and work with Reason 4.0 and my Akai MPK49, any ideas which mixer will be good for me and compatable? thanks
I have a few behringer mixers as well I just got this one the other day and I am happy with it. I am yet to try the USB connection but I'll give it a bash on the weekend. Good video mate.
You have to play around with the equalizer to find the best setting. There's no fixed way to set the equalizer. Several factors affect how you refine the settings; type of voice, characteristics of microphone and probably even room acoustics...
wut r the benefits of having a usb connectin on my mixer? i just ordered a xenyx 1222 fx, and its advertise to have a usb connection, how can dis come in handy?
Well, products don't usually pack with all the necessary cables with the product. Cause quite obviously majority of the people may not need them and more importantly, it drives up the cost of the product. So whatever cables you're lacking, you'd have to purchase them yourself...
im getting the 1622 FX mixer, same series just a question how much noise is there? and whats the latency like from the mixer via usb to your pc/mac - thanks spy
There isn't any noise problem as far as I'm concerned. It really depends on how sensitive one is to noise levels as well, but personally I don't think it's gonna be a problem. As for the latency of the USB interface, I don't use it for recordings as I connect the output of the mixer to my PC's sound card. So I don't have the answer as to how much is the delay...
thanks man, got my desk and i must say its an amazing product for the price, the UCA 200 for usb audio works perfectly with no latency what so ever in Sony acid
Ill try to answer your questions. I own The behringer xenyx 1204 .
1) Of course they are! And the preamps are of great quality. I use the mixer to record vocals for my tracks.
2)I never had any Problems with it. like i said, i love the XLR inputs and preamps. The whole console looks to be of good quality and it is worth the money
3) I can confirm the USB interface models work for both MAC and PC. Audacity will have no problem.
Hope i helped. It is worth its money for sure! have fun
Hi! thanks for the video, i have the same xenyx as you, and to record,i have connected the uca 202 outputs and inputs at the mixer on the cd/tape part, and connected the usb to my windows vista, now i need to download a program and i can make recordings? or do i need something else? whats thw best prog. for windows vista to recording do you know? thanks for the answear.
well theres a free decent recording programe which u can download online called audacity which is great for recording music. Just google audacity and it should come up in the first one on the results
Audacity is a very good recording software, for free. But I'm unable to get it to record via the USB audio device that came with the mixer. Unfortunately I don't know any way around it other than using my computer's sound card as the input device.
first off, thank you so much for posting this video, it helped so much...
secondly, this may be a dumb question, but i am new to this whole recording thing, and i was just wondering, would this product be compatible with music studios for both macs and windows, such as garageband or others?
There shouldn't be any problems recording with Garageband on the Mac or Audacity on Windows, so long as the essential hardwares are there. Since this mixer is analog, you'll definitely need a sound card that accepts line input (NOT microphone input).
Sorry, can't help you much cause your question is too vague and I can't possibly list all the possible settings. Basically if your cable connections are correct, it should work...
Most obvious difference being the faders. 1204 also has a couple more outputs. Read up on Behringer's site and you'll be able to compare and see the difference.
Depends on what kind of sound card you're using on your PC. It may sound better than a on-board sound card on your motherboard, but it'll unlikely sound better than a reasonably good dedicated sound card...
If you need only 1 mic amp and no other sources of audio, you can get the Behringer 502 or just any other simple mic amp. Behringer 802 has two mic inputs and a couple of other line inputs, so they'll be redundant if you don't use them. Also considering the fact that mixers with more inputs naturally cost more...
Thanx for the reply, but I decided to go with the M-Audio MobilePre USB. would this be a better buy considering that I really don't need any line ins/outs?
I've got this model just have had some problems with the eq, its limited to three set bands for high mid and low. In live and studio situations we've noticed a bit of feedback because we couldn't cut out some of the high end frequencies. Have you had any similar issues in your setup? Or do you use a seperate eq board?
I don't use it in stage environments, only for podcasts so far. And since monitoring is done via a pair of headphones, feedback is not a problem. I suggest you use a separate EQ board to have more control of the feedback situation...
Thanks for the video! I just bought the Xenyx 1204FX and am waiting for it to come. I appreciate the comments and the descriptions. It'll make it that much easier for me to figure out how to get it set up. Thanks again and good work.
Hi guys, I will make a video on how to hook the mixer up to the computer. But I'm pretty tight with other videos in hand now, so the tutorial video may not come as soon...
I just bought a Xenyx 1222FX, and while I have nothing but praise for Behringer boards (I have two Euroracks also), I never did get the USB device to work properly. It would record fine using Windows USB drivers, but I couldn't monitor the playback as I was recording it. (Obviously if you use headphones on the board itself this isn't an issue). I tried downloading Behringer's own USB drivers and they wouldn't even record. So I just hook up the mixer via my old MIA Midi soundcard and nix the USB.
Unfortunately, I never got the USB thing audio device to work with the recording software I'm using, which happens to be Audacity. So I had to revert to using line inputs to my computer's X-Fi sound card...
The price difference in my country is quite a lot, approximately USD 80.00. Figured I may not use the built in FX features, I went with the non FX model instead...
No, not all. The USB audio interface is packaged with models 1204 and above. Models including and below 1202, i.e. 1002, 802 and 502, DO NOT have the USB audio interface...
It could mean it needs an electrical source to power the unit. Or it could mean the preamp for the microphones. Or it could mean the phantom power that's needed to power condenser microphones...
A powered mixer is a mixer that has a built-in power amp for powering speakers. They generally aren't very powerful when built-in--almost never more than 6 or 7 hundred watts, which is enough to play to a small crowd of a couple hundred people or so. They mostly just get used for small coffee house gigs or for rehersal purposes.
HiPFG, im a fellow SGporean too. can i ask for ur help if i am to encounter any problems/questions once i got my behringer? the same model. =D well soon..

My mixer's Main output is actually connected to a compressor via XLR cables, which sorta modulates the levels of the input so that it doesn't peak and cause bad recording...
And from the compressor balanced output, I convert them to a RCA (red and white connectors that's commonly found) to 3.5mm stereo jack that I plug into my computer's sound card's Line Input...

excellent video great job man.
I have a few behringer mixers as well I just got this one the other day and I am happy with it. I am yet to try the USB connection but I'll give it a bash on the weekend. Good video mate.

What is podcast? or podcasting? That's what I am planning to buy too in replacement for my Eurorack UB1222FX Pro.
Pls give me some link , to hear some samples from your new mixer.

I use this mixer, i bought it a year ago, im satisfied
JohnF30Music 2 years ago 2
Hey my friend, using this mixer do you know a good eq setting to get great sounding vocals
pynn0501 2 years ago
You have to play around with the equalizer to find the best setting. There's no fixed way to set the equalizer. Several factors affect how you refine the settings; type of voice, characteristics of microphone and probably even room acoustics...

wut r the benefits of having a usb connectin on my mixer? i just ordered a xenyx 1222 fx, and its advertise to have a usb connection, how can dis come in handy?
chuyreal 2 years ago
I guess it's beneficial to those who don't have a reasonably good sound card with line input to their computers...
pfg1982 2 years ago
I've recently bought one of these but the leads included dont connect from the mixer to the USB audio interface.
Is there something im missing or do I need new leads?
ries913 2 years ago
Well, products don't usually pack with all the necessary cables with the product. Cause quite obviously majority of the people may not need them and more importantly, it drives up the cost of the product. So whatever cables you're lacking, you'd have to purchase them yourself...

im getting the 1622 FX mixer, same series just a question how much noise is there? and whats the latency like from the mixer via usb to your pc/mac - thanks spy
spyriadon 2 years ago
There isn't any noise problem as far as I'm concerned. It really depends on how sensitive one is to noise levels as well, but personally I don't think it's gonna be a problem. As for the latency of the USB interface, I don't use it for recordings as I connect the output of the mixer to my PC's sound card. So I don't have the answer as to how much is the delay...
pfg1982 2 years ago
thanks man, got my desk and i must say its an amazing product for the price, the UCA 200 for usb audio works perfectly with no latency what so ever in Sony acid

does the 802 come with a USB thing to plug it into a computer?

dyson101101 3 years ago
this should work for you, but if you really want a good answer, you should go to a guitar center or samash. please dont take my word on that:D

hey body the Behringer Xenyx 802 audio mixer
have aa usb port to tha pc
arez1449 3 years ago
Thanks for the video. Couple of newbie questions. Hope you don't mind.
1) Are the mic (XLR) inputs phantom powered, for use with condenser mic's?
2) How have you found the mixer in day to day use?
3) Do you happen to know if the USB interface will work with audacity on OSX?
Thanks a million.
dbspin 3 years ago
Ill try to answer your questions. I own The behringer xenyx 1204 .
1) Of course they are! And the preamps are of great quality. I use the mixer to record vocals for my tracks.
2)I never had any Problems with it. like i said, i love the XLR inputs and preamps. The whole console looks to be of good quality and it is worth the money
3) I can confirm the USB interface models work for both MAC and PC. Audacity will have no problem.
Hope i helped. It is worth its money for sure! have fun

Hi! thanks for the video, i have the same xenyx as you, and to record,i have connected the uca 202 outputs and inputs at the mixer on the cd/tape part, and connected the usb to my windows vista, now i need to download a program and i can make recordings? or do i need something else? whats thw best prog. for windows vista to recording do you know? thanks for the answear.
oibaf006 3 years ago
well theres a free decent recording programe which u can download online called audacity which is great for recording music. Just google audacity and it should come up in the first one on the results
Hady1994 3 years ago
Audacity is a very good recording software, for free. But I'm unable to get it to record via the USB audio device that came with the mixer. Unfortunately I don't know any way around it other than using my computer's sound card as the input device.
pfg1982 3 years ago
first off, thank you so much for posting this video, it helped so much...
secondly, this may be a dumb question, but i am new to this whole recording thing, and i was just wondering, would this product be compatible with music studios for both macs and windows, such as garageband or others?
thanks again...
deadsexy4 3 years ago
There shouldn't be any problems recording with Garageband on the Mac or Audacity on Windows, so long as the essential hardwares are there. Since this mixer is analog, you'll definitely need a sound card that accepts line input (NOT microphone input).

ok.. u said u have a xenyx 802.. my question is.. what are the settings to record vocals.. can you help me?..........
lokote90 3 years ago
Sorry, can't help you much cause your question is too vague and I can't possibly list all the possible settings. Basically if your cable connections are correct, it should work...
pfg1982 3 years ago
ok... can u specify what are the correct connections........
lokote90 3 years ago
Generally from the main output of your mixer to the line inputs on your computer or recording device...
pfg1982 3 years ago
wich it's the main diference between the xenyx 1202 and this model here xenyx 1204 ?
holdelor 3 years ago
Most obvious difference being the faders. 1204 also has a couple more outputs. Read up on Behringer's site and you'll be able to compare and see the difference.
pfg1982 3 years ago
Does the USB feature provide higher audio quality than, say, using a linein input on a pc? ]:
TheBeautyIsFake 3 years ago
Depends on what kind of sound card you're using on your PC. It may sound better than a on-board sound card on your motherboard, but it'll unlikely sound better than a reasonably good dedicated sound card...
pfg1982 3 years ago
I have nothing but onboard, so i ordered this and its great [:
Thanks for your help!

hey. i'm thinking about getting the behringer 802. is it any good? I only need one mic input.
clarksvegashustla23 3 years ago
If you need only 1 mic amp and no other sources of audio, you can get the Behringer 502 or just any other simple mic amp. Behringer 802 has two mic inputs and a couple of other line inputs, so they'll be redundant if you don't use them. Also considering the fact that mixers with more inputs naturally cost more...
pfg1982 3 years ago
Thanx for the reply, but I decided to go with the M-Audio MobilePre USB. would this be a better buy considering that I really don't need any line ins/outs?
clarksvegashustla23 3 years ago
It most probably is a better buy since you don't need so many inputs. The last thing you'd want is to pay for something you don't need... ;-)
pfg1982 3 years ago
hm i didnt know people used the mixed in non-music situations ._." okay i guess this opens up more room for when i get my 2442fx..
thanks =P was fun watching and i laughed when u said

I've got this model just have had some problems with the eq, its limited to three set bands for high mid and low. In live and studio situations we've noticed a bit of feedback because we couldn't cut out some of the high end frequencies. Have you had any similar issues in your setup? Or do you use a seperate eq board?
customerfault 3 years ago
I don't use it in stage environments, only for podcasts so far. And since monitoring is done via a pair of headphones, feedback is not a problem. I suggest you use a separate EQ board to have more control of the feedback situation...

Thanks for the video! I just bought the Xenyx 1204FX and am waiting for it to come. I appreciate the comments and the descriptions. It'll make it that much easier for me to figure out how to get it set up. Thanks again and good work.

Hi guys, I will make a video on how to hook the mixer up to the computer. But I'm pretty tight with other videos in hand now, so the tutorial video may not come as soon...
pfg1982 3 years ago
I just bought a Xenyx 1222FX, and while I have nothing but praise for Behringer boards (I have two Euroracks also), I never did get the USB device to work properly. It would record fine using Windows USB drivers, but I couldn't monitor the playback as I was recording it. (Obviously if you use headphones on the board itself this isn't an issue). I tried downloading Behringer's own USB drivers and they wouldn't even record. So I just hook up the mixer via my old MIA Midi soundcard and nix the USB.
petty1800 3 years ago
Unfortunately, I never got the USB thing audio device to work with the recording software I'm using, which happens to be Audacity. So I had to revert to using line inputs to my computer's X-Fi sound card...

Why didn't you go for the FX? Its only a bit more expensive
djamin08 3 years ago
The price difference in my country is quite a lot, approximately USD 80.00. Figured I may not use the built in FX features, I went with the non FX model instead...

Does The usb connector thing come with all Behringer mixers?
Yidoc17 3 years ago
yeah
hectorkoby 3 years ago
No, not all. The USB audio interface is packaged with models 1204 and above. Models including and below 1202, i.e. 1002, 802 and 502, DO NOT have the USB audio interface...
pfg1982 3 years ago
You could have kept your 802 and got a xlr to 1/4 adapter for the third mic
Spart04 3 years ago
I could, but I didn't like the knobs/dials on the 802. Prefer the faders like what most mixers have on the 1204...

what is a powered mixer
Whats it mean?
poopiedildo 3 years ago
It could mean it needs an electrical source to power the unit. Or it could mean the preamp for the microphones. Or it could mean the phantom power that's needed to power condenser microphones...
pfg1982 3 years ago
A powered mixer is a mixer that has a built-in power amp for powering speakers. They generally aren't very powerful when built-in--almost never more than 6 or 7 hundred watts, which is enough to play to a small crowd of a couple hundred people or so. They mostly just get used for small coffee house gigs or for rehersal purposes.
