I can write on my wall, and the command line is the biggest support since original linux. Windows Rocks

My experience of Linux, it's very capable of emulating some of the features from Vista. But under the hood of the system it's much different. Sadly to get Linux to this level of Vista like features can be long a difficult. Windows and OSX are at home on the desktop but Linux still has a very long way to go. For now Linux runs better in a server capacity.
I do agree that windows and OSX are more STREAMLINED when it comes too affects, but most n00bs think that Linux are for servers, when really they really aren't. Compiz and beryl are more advanced than Quartz AND aero. BUT Quartz/AQUA and Aero look much better to MOST people.
Linux does work on Laptops depending on your System. It will run on Windows 2000 - Windows 7/Vista.
I haven't got Linux yet. I have a school laptop so I am still figuring it out with ICT, I am not sure whether they think it will work with the school system.

Modern Linux atm when it comes to functionality is equal if not greater than windows and mac. In my opinion Ubuntu 8.04 kicks the shit out of Mac OS X. The only reason I even use windows is gaming and that is the only windows. I run open office on my gaming desktop and on my Ubuntu laptop and it has the same functionality as Microsoft Office and it can even save in Microsoft office file types. And the best part of it is the OS and everything with it COMPLETELY FREE open source FTW!

Linux is better for some one that do not want to pay for an operating system, and for those that just check their emails everyday or just uses it to browse the internet. Windows is mainly built for applications.

it's not about which one is better really... it's only better if the other one suits your preferences, I run windows and i've seen lots of linux, and i've got to play around in linux and even run some of my favourate windows games while my computer was broken. Linux is different and does not suit my prefences, too much work to get windows games working on it, like command and conquer. I like gameing alot, so i'll choose windows over it. but i'd rather have linux for anything else.
I like linux and ubuntu. I have had nothing but problems with Vista, I feel ripped off! I have the open office and portable apps. I find it really good, sure, the word processor part or writer is a bit different, but similar to word etc. You get used to it.
Linux is better for weaker computers, simplicity, and is easy to operate with support for Windows programs growing thanks to wine. When I mean weaker computers however, I mean anything lower than a Core 2 Duo at 2.8ghz, which is nearly everyone. Vista runs smoothly with little problems with most Quad processors, but not many people have those. Linux also has no fear for viruses, something that makes any computer with any version of Windows shiver at.

The problem is that most people are so used to Window's inteface that they don't want to use Linux.
About the games and some softwares that only windows has you can use the emulator "wine" and that allows you to use window's softwares in Linux interface. About games...welll I'm not sure. but give it a try.

Maybe you are right about KDE similar to Window's interface, but remember that LINUX (Products)are ALWAYS updated every six month bercause daily they recieve thousands of e-mails with new ideas and new modifications.
On the other hand Window's product keep having the same structure.

I am serious when I saw that at my wifes work that all the computer technicians complian about Vista. My wife works for a telephone company that is very large. They have business in B.C, ONT, Alberta and Quebec.
They provide internet services and people have had trouble connecting as soon as they upgrade from XP to Vista.
I doubt; I myself haven't used Vista but it seems underrated in areas (not that I'm saying its Microsoft's best release). There still isn't a reason for many people to upgrade though.
Only the people that insist on having the latest and greatest want to upgrade. They are the ones that have not been educated about Microsoft and how it takes at least two years to get all the bugs worked out. Some just want to brag that they have the latest. I say so what? Some think that it will improve their security but IE7 has already been hacked. I run XP home and Ubuntu and I am happy. I still need MS for games. My favorite is Command and Conquer series.
It is whatever works for you. People need to realize that it is about choice. Microsoft is still number one but Apple has its place and so does Linux. I need to run MS for command and Conquerer. However I prefer to surf the net with Linux because I do not get all the spyware, worms and viruses. I it about having a choice. If it was up to MS no one would have a choice but to use their products. That would be like forcing everyone to drive a Ford even though there are alternatives.
Trust me though. Even though people may say that Vista is as XP with a different skin the fact is that my wife works at a very large telephone company in Canada that also provides internet services and the computer technicians are always complaining about Vista.Also people that have signed up for internet services had trouble as soon as they upgraded to Vista.
What most people don't realize is that Ubuntu is free while Windows is not.

Modern Linux atm when it comes to functionality is equal if not greater than windows and mac. In my opinion Ubuntu 8.04 kicks the shit out of Mac OS X. The only reason I even use windows is gaming and that is the only windows. I run open office on my gaming desktop and on my Ubuntu laptop and it has the same functionality as Microsoft Office and it can even save in Microsoft office file types. And the best part of it is the OS and everything with it COMPLETELY FREE open source FTW!

Windows takes about 80% of desktop market. Linux maybe 2%. And no, Linux doesn't run 96% of internet servers. Huge amount of them run on Unix systems like AIX, Solaris, HP-UX...

Linux is better for some one that do not want to pay for an operating system, and for those that just check their emails everyday or just uses it to browse the internet. Windows is mainly built for applications.

i own linux and i have used it, i use windows just because im just more comfortable with it, and linux cant support most games today(just like Mac), linux is probably the overall better operating system, but the point is that the people who say Macs are so much easier to use are a bunch of retards because, if anything, i find it harder to use than anything out there

it's not about which one is better really... it's only better if the other one suits your preferences, I run windows and i've seen lots of linux, and i've got to play around in linux and even run some of my favourate windows games while my computer was broken. Linux is different and does not suit my prefences, too much work to get windows games working on it, like command and conquer. I like gameing alot, so i'll choose windows over it. but i'd rather have linux for anything else.

I like linux and ubuntu. I have had nothing but problems with Vista, I feel ripped off! I have the open office and portable apps. I find it really good, sure, the word processor part or writer is a bit different, but similar to word etc. You get used to it.

Linux is better for weaker computers, simplicity, and is easy to operate with support for Windows programs growing thanks to wine. When I mean weaker computers however, I mean anything lower than a Core 2 Duo at 2.8ghz, which is nearly everyone. Vista runs smoothly with little problems with most Quad processors, but not many people have those. Linux also has no fear for viruses, something that makes any computer with any version of Windows shiver at.

Vista sucks when it shouldnt ...we all test everything they cant! so were basically there lab rats! Ubuntu is getting readdy to swing the twin blades of azzinoth at bill gates head because its getting so good.I havent had one problem with it and neither has my bro(which had a million viruses on windows) and my bros gf which always messes things up! Ubunt ROCK ON.Thanks to the wine developers for giving me 200 fps in wow instead if 75! Thats a huge difference and vista took 2 mins to boot!

Linux it's excellente and bette then Windows Vista.
The problem is that most people are so used to Window's inteface that they don't want to use Linux.
About the games and some softwares that only windows has you can use the emulator "wine" and that allows you to use window's softwares in Linux interface. About games...welll I'm not sure. but give it a try.

Well, Wine it's an emulator bacause it EMULES windows' codes and implements Window's API libraries.(basicly translate all the Windows code).
So...yeah Wine is an emulator.

Maybe you are right about KDE similar to Window's interface, but remember that LINUX (Products)are ALWAYS updated every six month bercause daily they recieve thousands of e-mails with new ideas and new modifications.
On the other hand Window's product keep having the same structure.
That's why I said that normal users are used to the windows interface and they're just not much interested in getting with the new wave(open source)

I am serious when I saw that at my wifes work that all the computer technicians complian about Vista. My wife works for a telephone company that is very large. They have business in B.C, ONT, Alberta and Quebec.
They provide internet services and people have had trouble connecting as soon as they upgrade from XP to Vista.

Only the people that insist on having the latest and greatest want to upgrade. They are the ones that have not been educated about Microsoft and how it takes at least two years to get all the bugs worked out. Some just want to brag that they have the latest. I say so what? Some think that it will improve their security but IE7 has already been hacked. I run XP home and Ubuntu and I am happy. I still need MS for games. My favorite is Command and Conquer series.

It is whatever works for you. People need to realize that it is about choice. Microsoft is still number one but Apple has its place and so does Linux. I need to run MS for command and Conquerer. However I prefer to surf the net with Linux because I do not get all the spyware, worms and viruses. I it about having a choice. If it was up to MS no one would have a choice but to use their products. That would be like forcing everyone to drive a Ford even though there are alternatives.

Trust me though. Even though people may say that Vista is as XP with a different skin the fact is that my wife works at a very large telephone company in Canada that also provides internet services and the computer technicians are always complaining about Vista.Also people that have signed up for internet services had trouble as soon as they upgraded to Vista.
