There are several class action lawsuits against banks right now for overdraft fees- go onto bank class actions dot com or just type overdraft fee lawsuits or bank class action lawsuits into your search engine. There will be several links to choose from as there are so many lawsuits pending on this right now- until we fight back by hitting their bottom line, they will continue to do this crap.
Those who have poor credit and/or low incomes likely will not have credit cards and will thus be more vulnerable to these kinds of overdraft fees. They will also be more devastated as a cascading set of overdrafts kick in.
If someone writes a check or makes a debit transaction and there are insufficient funds, the transaction should simply be declined just as it is with a credit card. It is no skin off of the banks' asses to do it this way.
But the banks are running another scam where they clear all debits BEFORE clearing deposits made to your account on the same business day. I got ripped off before like that. I made a CASH deposit one day and then purchased several things, thinking it would be covered.
Lo and behold, I was charged with over $100 in overdraft fees the next day. When I called to complain, they wouldn't reverse the fees due to their "debits first" policy.
I closed my checking account with Wachovia 6-8 months ago, never hearing from them again... UNTIL.... Today, living on the other side of the world, I find out that my CURRENT bank's checking account has a lien against it from Wachovia bank.
-I never was notified by Wachovia in any way until this incident, and I can't get my tax return check deposited to pay for my plane ticket back to the U.S.
CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNTS with Wachovia, please... for those of us who have been abused by this organiztion
hi question umm let say i have us bank right. and I have $121 left i withdraw make payment for 30 bucks which give me 91 buck left.
Then I withdraw 40 buck witch give me 51 bucks left and i got a rent bill of 120.85 and make a payement online with 51 witch leave me -69.79 somewhere around there. can i make payment online with it and it would go overdraft fee or will it say decline?
Overdrafts is unfortunately something bankers are not allowed to refund, unless its a bank error. As a banker, I could truly care less of the amount I give customers back. In fact, I'd give everyone their money back if I could however my District Manager (DM) wont let me. What a joke. Instead of offering to waive a few of the fees, my DM suggests I sell them a credit card or savings account for overdraft protection. How can someone open a savings if they cant even keep money in a cking?!
Why is "Wachovia" in the title? It is never mentioned in the video.
We do all agree that keeping track of our own money is our own responsibility, right? No bank ever has ever promised me they would complete a ledger/ register on my behalf. If anyone knows of one that will, let me know.
I have made mistakes in the past, but they were my fault through bad math or not paying attention.
your transaction register doesn't work when they charge your account from highest to lowest. Wachovia posted a transaction that I made 2 days before i ever made the purchase in order to charge my account from highest to lowest and collect NSF fees. My mother was a banker for over 10 years and never overdrafted until they started charging from highest to lowest. I put money into my bank account and it said i had an Availabe balance of $747.00 so I spent about 13.00 at Zaxbys that same evening....
@jb0177 I asked them the same question! I did get all my money refunded but not before jumping through hoops! I started doing a print screen of my account just in case. I still have my Wachovia account open but I have all my money in Regions now. They charge highest to lowest too but they have never given me a fake available balance or held cash deposits in order to collect NSF fees. Wachovia/Wells Fargo are probably the BIGGEST crooks in banking.
well Wachovia took that Zaxbys purchase and posted it two days before I made the purchase causing two purchases i made before that one to (one for 0.44 and one for about 5.00) overdraft by charging them from highest to lowest therefore making my register USELESS...classic example of highest to lowest transaction order.
Call the bank and ask to cancel overdraft protection...I just did myself!
Call Senator Chris Dodd and show your support for his bill that will stop this shit from happening. He will limit the amount of Overdraft fees to 1 per month, 6 per year. Overdraft fees must be proportionate to the cost of processing an overdraft charge. His number is 202-224-2823. Call and show your support. Google Chris Dodd's overdraft legislation for more information. Pass this message on...post it wherever you can.
USBANK DOES THIS ( Make the $1000 go through then give you 3 overdrafts )

I certainly don't put cash in the bank just for them to find some sneaky way to steal it.
Best bet is to stop using banks. What do you need them for anyway?
