I have been seeking a really good butter milk biscuit recipe and have tried about ten different ones out on my husband in the last two weeks. ( Only after he asked me, "Honey, how does it feel to be almost 60 and not know how to make a really good buttermilk biscuit?") I have to say, He does like Betty's biscuits. Thank you Betty. Finally, the search ends here and no more sour grapes for breakfast!

@rqueen1 Great video. It's like she makes drop biscuits, then drops thedollops of dough into a plate of flour to firm up the drop biscuits so they won'r spread too much. How much fat in the buttermilk?
You make it look so easy, Betty. I realize that the baking powder isn't added because of the self rising flour, but you didn't add salt or sugar, and no fat. Just wondering if I missed something or if you missed mentioning it.
Ahhh I love this video...thank you very much for sharing your expertise. I love the last line of this video....Ms. Betty, you really had me smiling the whole time =0
Do not put foil in the bottom of your oven. The foil will reflect heat onto the the thermostat. The thermostat reads a higher temperature than it really is inside the oven. So as a result the oven doesn't heat up to the right temperature. If you are worried about spills put a cookie sheet underneath the item being cooked. Nice video.
Hi, Just watched the video on Betty's famour buttermilk biscuit. I have the same question., about there being no fat added. Did you get an answer to your question?
@garnetgirl101 ahhh sorry, I haven't got any replies back yet lol. Anyhoot, i have my own recipe for buttermilk biscuits, but it does require butter and baking soda / powder. I should try Bettys recipe just to see how they come out tho.
@Icyrails12 hi there. it was nice to hear from you. I picked up some self rising flour and buttermilk to make Betty's recipe. I'll let you know how it works out. again thx for the reply have a great day.....
Good on ya Betty as one of a similar generation it aint that easy being on camera. I will give them a go it always fascinates me the "biscuit" as its very similar to what we call "scones".
My grandmother in West Virginia only used Hudson Cream flour also. she did a lot of the same things this granny does and she would get requests from several states for those biscuits.
There are no other ingredients than shown. The sausage grease makes the flavor and oven temp and time are the key to fluffy outcomes. They should not turn out doughy inside.
I think Betty is just the sweetest biscuit baker ever! Lol! I have been trying to perfect my biscuit making technique by watching youtube, since both of my grandmothers passed on before I was old enough to learn how they made their's. I think it is really important to preserve these kinds of things for posterity while you still can, & I appreciate you posting this video so we can all benefit from her wisdom!
She's an absolute Doll! The ending was so cute... "Give me strength Lord" Keep on cookin' Betty! We love it!

Every thing is exactly as you watched, the only fat comes from the sausage grease on the pan.

@bruiseraa I can't remember for sure but I think 2%? It is just off the shelf buttermilk, nothing special.

im gunna make these biscuits tomorow... and for grammas sake.... thay better be good

Nope, just what you see. That's what make it a country biscuit not a fast cooking one that crumbles to pieces. It is more like baking bread.
rqueen1 1 year ago
Just curious....she has just self rising flour and buttermilk, thats it? Wheres the butter or shortening, and baking soda / powder, etc?
