Stands up just fine 10,000 years later.......with some connection to On The Corner.....its ALL almost pure percussion.....and tight and sideways and snake minded shit to boot. .
What a joke... talking about sampling this incredible music...as if that's some great accomplishment!? This music has stood the test of time because Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul are some of the greatest musicians in the last fifty years...obviously that's not going for those who sample the famous," 125th street Congress".
My pops was a big fan of WR, grew up hearing all of this. Gave me a good ear for some hot shit. These young cats today don't know shit about some good music that's why a lot of the hip hop shit today is so wack.
Weather Report was the only band I would drop everything to go see - hands down, the best live music I ever experienced. Arguably the last important music of the 20th century and IMO has yet to be topped in the 21st. Miles Davis sure could pick great sidemen - he proved it when he "discovered" Joe Zawinul
. "All Zawinul had was WR (that monotonous Syndicate sucks),"
To say that all Zawinul had was W.R. and that the Syndicate sucks, makes all your other arguments fail in vain, it's all under your nose, no not your dirty lip, buttwipe.
To all those who may have had misfortune to read what timages13 wrote, and for whatever reason, share his retarded views. Listen to Cucumber Slumber. It's 90 % Wayne and... OK, you can obviously hear Alphonso Johnson throughout the song, but how come, it's his (Jonson's) and Zawinul's tune? No mentioning of Wayne's 'wailing and screaming'? As I said, I'm his huge fan but... Give to Caesar what's his...
For me their best shit, this track on this album. I read where Wayne said this album, "was about gettin down" That sums it up, but it's getting down with some of the best jazz musicians in the last fifty years! And it's Wayne for me who blows just incredible music here. He wails, he screams on that soprano! I also love Zawinul's electric piano, and the bass interludes of Miroslav, that killer funky backbeat, and Dom adding his special magic. There's nothing like them now or then, great music!
@timages13 I'm a huge fan of Wayne Shorter too, but HERE he only plays what Joe had written. It's his COMPOSITION. To the very note. It's Zawinul's genius, RIP. To me it's their second best album, after a totally magic Mysterious Traveller. My No 1 band ever!
@timages13 I hear that. You don't? :)) I can sing hum (whistle) to all these tunes so... must be a composition, I guess. And you could read that anywhere in the 70s. It was as obvious as the fact that Jaco screwed Weather Report. Which now seems like a blasphemy... Yeah, that 'genius' didn't write down a note, that's for sure...
@PrZemek44 I think you're tripping to make that claim dude! Zawinul didn't write anything for Wayne to play, how stupid. The truth is Wayne Shorter is a superior writer/musician than Zawinul, he wrote some of the greatest jazz pieces for the Miles Davis Quintet,Weather Report, and his new Quartet which is the best jazz band now. It was Zawinul and his huge ego that killed the band. Mr Gone which was almost all his tanked and the band never recovered. By then Wayne in his mind quit, read his bio.
@timages13 'You're tripping', ' stupid', 'The truth is' WTF are you to claim to 'know the truth?'. From WAYNE'S biography? If that's your argument you must be...maybe not stupid, just... kind of, immature. He 'quit WR in his mind' b/c of this new Joe/Jaco shit. But even before 'he quit', all best stuff comes from Joe, sorry.
How come this track is 'signed' by Joe if Wayne plays most of the (best) stuff here?
Maybe think a bit before you make a moron of yourself. Again.
@PrZemek44 You're an idiot, (you can hear that the parts were written, yeah right you ass). Zawinul himself said the greatest musician he ever played with was Wayne and he played with Miles and Cannonball. You're talking about Wayne Shorter shit head, he was a star before WR and he has the best band in jazz now. All Zawinul had was WR (that monotonous Syndicate sucks), and it's because of Wayne, and he fucked it up with his massive ego. You fucking bonehead you know shit, don't e mail me again.
@timages13 Email you? Why would I go so low? Your (quite genuine, I'd say) surprise that someone could 'hear' that it's written says it all you're deaf. So go back to reading bios. It's an undisputable fact that, except their first two albums (and presumably after 1976) everything had been written. You may have regrets that you called Zawinul's tune 'the best on this album', I get it. But don't take it on those who really get Weather Report. Quite obviously, you don't.
@PrZemek44 You pretentious bore, you know which parts were written, HA! My friend is still laughing at that! Wayne is considered the greatest Jazz composer of his generation, and the top three saxophones of all time! No one writes for Wayne stupid, (then you might have something with ego Joe, Jaco left after he wanted to write his bass parts). You like Zawinul are both boorish assholes.
Oh and Mysterious Traveler is Wayne Shorter's.
Time to take a dump and eat it...bon appettit shit head!
@PrZemek44 No you don't get it silly clown. You don't have the Huge privilege to get someone who wrote half of Mile's greatest music and write out his improvisational lines...this is Jazz dumb Fuck! Wayne's a genius, you just let him fly Moron!
I'm shocked that WR's music would attract someone so utterly stupid. You haven't a clue about the process and the pretense to make these absurd statements, you sad asshole.
Hancock said Miles NEVER changed a note of Wayne's Compositions, enough said.
@timages13 I couldn't agree more! Enough said. And spewed. Now pleeeease go somewhere else. Thanks
PS This track has nothing to do with Hancock or Miles. We are talking about Joe Zawinul's composition (and it's good to know how much you love it!). Now, take your pil and lay down.
@PrZemek44 You know NOTHING about WR. Zawinul's famous quote then,"We always Solo and We Never Solo" The music was a deliberate break from the standard Jazz Compositions of extended solos, the Head and the Bridge, that's why it was so controversial in it's time. The Head was very simple, the times were written out, the Bass and Drum was solid R&B, the rest was raw free style vamps. That's why to purist of WR this album is so special. Learn something Asshole, the parts were NOT written out, wow.
@OrangutanNationz Teen Town is... OK. Altogether - no match for this album. Or Mysterious Traveller, Tale Spinin... Sorry, you're evidently too young to get it. :)
this is the weather report style that they do so well- wayne spitting licks out, joe replying on the rhodes, funky bass and drums with just pounds of funk and "sst-sst-sst" fills...dom um romao sprinkling his percussion all over the place and miroslav's bowed upright with wah adds unique textures. it just percolates and for some reason to me, never gets boring, there's some sort of secret magic, i think its the bass. Dig the Cissy Strut organ solo bassline tease around 10 mins. nice upload
WTF with all these 'new arrangements'? The comments are not just all messed up but... I didn't do any 'double postings' here... Or anywhere else. Is this supposed to be an improvement? You can't even see if a comment has been done yesterday or 2 years ago...
Listen to it 10 times. If you still think it's boring well... It's not for you.
I've been listening to WR since 1974, but only recently 'discovered' Miroslav's Tune. And also had to listen a few times. This music is pretty complex. But when you get it, will never get tired of it. Try.

YAY! You found one of the most obvious samples since Main Source Sampled Donald Byrd's "Think Twice". What you FAILED to notice, is the sample super hip-hop group extrordinaires, People Under the Stairs took, at 2:29. Some folks just don't know they deep hip-hop. Then again, you've probably never even heard the "Super Secret Bonus Track" cause it's on an EXTREMELY RARE PUTS release that they put out themselves. I paid A LOT of money for that 12". STUDY YOUR ROOTS KIDDIES! And play real live shit
Literally, the title of the song IS "Super Secret Bonus Track" and on the label it says "Ft. Van Halen", which I am pretty damn sure is NOT true. I don't have that joint on Youtube cause I simply don't "Youtube" I just like to find sample sources on here n' watch random shit. I don't even know how to upload shit,(which I'm sure Youtube would guide, I just don't take the time) Like I said, its on a 12 they put out themselves(no major help) and I don't have any programs on my computer to rip vinyl
