  • Neat trick for hooking out stuck cheese-cloth:

Go down to your nearest cycle store and buy 2 spokes and one nipple. take some pliers and curl a handle into the head end of one of the spokes, then screw the threaded end into each end of the nipple. Now you have a long hooked rod with a handle. Stainless steel, so very strong. A nice hook at one end and @ 24" long. Perfect for the job. BUT when hooking that cloth, only turn it so as to tighten the spokes into the nipple or it'll undo itself...

  • You remind me of spock xD

  • totally ruined my slide a long time ago. I used slide - o - mix even slide cream. Tap water straight up. Haven't cleaned the inside of my slides. damn -_-

  • wow

  • how ofent should you clean your slide with slide cream?

  • What is the best substitute for Slide-O-Mix but not as quick to degrade like slide or rotor oil?

  • Thanks for the video.

  • Can you also put the glass cleaner or alcohol in the outer slide and then swab it out?

  • please help! the other day i was cleaning the inside of the inner slide with my cleaning rod and the cloth got stuck. the cloth is really jammed in there tight and do you know of any tips to get it out possibly? if worse comes to worst i will just have to use my air compressor to blow it out if hooking it out doesnt work. please help!!!

  • can you use pledge on the inner slide

  • Tnis is the better way of apply slide creame/grease for trombone.

    That's good!

  • I tried to lub this way!

    Very good!

  • is alcohol also used to clean the slide??

  • @jonathanarnold318 u wna disinfect your trombone?

  • king is the best trombone

  • king is a good horn but definitly not the best bach edwards getzen conn all those are way better than king. dont get me wrong king is good though

  • I have a Shires trombone. I was told by a shires rep to use slide o mix on the slide, and it works wonderfully well. Mr, Griego is right, the slide o mix does solidify after a while, but not for several weeks. cleaning the inner and outer tubes once a week will do. i use the rod and cheesecloth about once every other month, but usually, the large size spitballs soaked in alcohol, although juvenile, work very well in getting the week old slide o mix off before it solidifies.

  • its a weird edwards thing that slidomix doesnt work. yeah it breaks down on any slide and can solidify on on any slide, but as ive tried different slide treatments on my horn, ive realized that there is no substitute for trombotine or yamaha slide oile (im not as big a fan of that as trombotine) on an edwards trombone.

    love shires, though, great horns.

  • A couple of things. First of all, I have a flexible plastic thing with a brush head that I snake my trombone with and it'll bend around the end crook, is that okay?

Second of all, I can tell my slide oil is bonding. What do I do?

  • are you talking about the slide snake or the long metal cleaning rod with a flexible brush on the end? i have the same thing...if you're using the slide snake, on the other hand, it might not work as well, it might be too flexible to really get going inside the slide, but hey, give it a shot.

switch to trombotine or yamaha slide oil. those are the best on the slide and are, as ive found, probably the most trusted.

  • I had to watch this because my teacher made me

  • This video is FANTASTIC! I recommend it to all my students.

  • i recently bought a Griego 4.5 Deco Trombone Mouthpiece... simply amazing!

  • How often do I need to do this on a Yamaha 448G?

  • As soon as your slide is sluggish and not performing as well as you would like.

  • Is there any reason why I should not wash my slide in the tub with dishwashing liquid and a plastic slide brush and between baths cheese cloth as shown in your video?

  • If you clean your slide often with the cheese cloth it will reduce how often you bathe your slide.

  • I really appriteate you posting the trombone videos. I personally play on a bach, (sorry for the slap in the face), but I believe they are very similar. I got chesecloth stuck in my slide and it was really hard to get out. I was kind of flipping out so I flushed the slides and started lowing all of the air I could, I kept that up for about 15 minutes while circle breathing and all the sudden this huge blob of white chesecloth hit the wall, and I finally got to take a real breath. lol

  • I have heard that you can let the outer slide sit filled with distilled white vinegar to get ride of any deposits. Do you find any problem with this?

    Thanks

  • The dish soap would work, but would not be very practical to do while in a rehearsal or a gig. Alcohol kept in a spray bottle(dont get the water and alcohol mixed up!) is a nice way to go.

  • Filmed some this morning. Subscribe to our channel and you won't miss it when it's added.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Great guide! Thank you so much! Are you guys going to post a Thayer Valve maintainence video?

  • Thanks for the video, Christan. Great guide! Quick question about cleaning the inners: would regular rubbing alcohol on some clean muslin cut through the build-up enough? Would I need to wash off the alcohol before applying more lube? Thanks.

    Keep up the great work!

  • The rubbing alcohol would work just fine. No residue should remain that could cause a problem.
