  • At 0:08-0:12 is that green car behind the GG1 a de-motored MP54?

  • Sweet

  • I guess ou have to worry about 'pitch drop' with a horn like that, it sounds the same whether it's coming or going. I love the video, definitely a blast from the past.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!! :)

  • Like bubba2781 below, I also watched the GG1 show in Seabrook. Thanks for posting!

  • love them old diesal horns..they had character

  • I believe that is an E2 horn. This horn was used on the Milwaukee Road's Little Joe units. Great video!

  • Nice!

  • Great video, I remember watching many a GG1 going through Seabrook Md on the then Penn Central. Those old horns bring back good memories. Thanks for positing.

  • Great catches. Wish I'd had a chance to ride behind one of these. Are any running today?

  • @bluecomet390 They are Long gone!!! there was a total of 140 built by the Pennsy from 1934-1943. All are retired, and the last one ran in 1985. There are 15 saved from the scraper, including the protoype #4800. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive works in their tender shop. They built the frame, running gear and totally rivited body, and shipped it to GE in Erie to be completed. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk Great Video! I was wondering if you have any videos of a C&O U30c. I have never seen one on video.

  • @nukinfuts1000 No C&O U30C's. Sorry, wish I did. Have a C&O U25B somewhere, and a U30B in CSX paint. Thanks for watching...

  • BarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrP!! :D

  • It sounds just like russian M62 :D

  • I've heard them more times than I can count! Geez...I've ridden behind so many of these in my day (1955-1976)!! But this horn has a lower pitch than I remember. I've found other GG-1 vids with the horn as I remember! Think maybe this one was out of tune?

My best memory: Riding in the first coach and seeing that BIG headlight on that G! Felt I was being stared at!! As a kid that was FIERCE!!

P.S. Got photos of orange Amtrak work trains I'll soon post. I think there's a GG-1 in the bunch!

  • what a strange horn, its almost something you would hear on a ship or cruise liner not a train.

  • I love all of your old videos, did you take them all?

  • @AmtrakBoys Every one of them! Been taking videos since 1975. Thanks for watching...

  • thanks jack and i know what the next set of horn i wanna own are the A 200

  • Blat, blat,blat,blat

  • love those GG-1's, nice video, and nice horn

  • I like the A-200 "honker" horns. The remind me of streamliners.

  • Sounds like a boat. The Norfolk Southern Lift bridge at the mouth of the Cuyohoga (spelling is off) River had two A-200s that blow in unison as a warning the bridge is either lifting or lowering.

  • Cool! I haven't heard a horn like that in forever!

  • the horn show from the Penn Central amazing catches Jack.
