My first experience when using my Glock 19 was a stovepipe. OK, I was inexperienced and limp wristed the grip at the time but...I'll never forget that it FAILED. Which is why I am thinking about a .357 revolver as my next purchase for my inside house work. In an emergency situation, a stovepipe can get an inexperienced family member killed.
"best gun ever made". what's even cooler is that the Glock pistol was the first attempt Glock had aver made at designing a gun and they nailed it perfectly the first time.
@QuesoChino LOL the glock is the best handgun ever made, and im not saying that because im a fanboy because im not, i own a 1911, and an m&p along with a few misc wheel guns, this is the single most reliable and durable handgun in existence. and i think the 2 dozen countries that use them as combat sidearms agree with me. when your primary jams you know for a fact your sidearm will go bang. what do you "THINK" is better than a glock?
@Grunt922 After 28 years of shooting for offence and devence I can tell you the following. Glocks jam often. Once the muzzle in crowded they DONT fire and need to be re-racked to fire - deadly probelm in a hands on scuffle. I look at you and think - not a scuffling man hey? Go hit a tree (human head) - hard - with your clock with a round chambered - oops. Then go do it with a 1911. For me a fine gun needs to be a good weapon within 8 feet and past 25 yards - not just in the mid range. and you?
@QuesoChino As for the video - the TAP is not to pop out the brass or round. Hit it once like a man - hard. Its 'specifically' to make sure the mag is fully seated. rack instantly as one step. I did like seeing that you use gravity to help clear when racking - but pull that gun in closer to your body. Pull butt to chest as a habbit - or an experienced soldier will grab that thing and thats when crowding occurs and Glocks fail. Practice as if fighting 'always'. Know your gun in action!
Thats not gonna work when a stovepipe really happens because the next round will aready be halfway fed into the chamber and when you fully rack the slide youll end up with two rounds trying to chamber.
@ksmith451 incorrect -dont get me wrong I am no Glock fan, but when you have a half chambered round and a stove pipe when you rack the slide the round 1/2 in chamber purposefully 'holds' the following round in magazine and will not double rack a round. His TAP is incorrect, but his rack is correct - even on a Glock. Do this to better understand - lock slide - put round in chamber - inserted loaded mag - then release slide. Next round wont rack. Know your gun!
@SeeMeEat Incorrect. Glock's firing mechanism is incredibly complicated and is among the most complicated handgun mechanisms on the market. Anything SA or DA/SA is less complicated than DA only anyways.
@SeeMeEat I'm talking about the firing/safety mechanism. Besides, put a Glock side by side with a 1911 or a Makarov or a CZ or a Browning GP and it's clear that any of those are simpler than the Glock. Plus the fact that the Glock has no manual safety whatsoever is rather upsetting to me. Sure it protects against firing if the gun falls or whatever, but there's no protection against some moron pulling the trigger when he didn't mean to
@SeeMeEat I'd say it's overall about as simple as 1911, but it's really hard to fix or gunsmith anything on a Glock because the technology is so proprietary. You can fix a 1911 with some odd tools or a visit to brownells.
Well, I do not want to start an argument, but glock is the best OVERALL handgun ever produced; Yes, the other handguns you mentioned(just some models) may be better in some categories here, and there, but the Glock is unbeatable as a complete package, and will be for at least another ten years or more. It's been 29 years since the introduction, and it's still pretty much ahead of the competition today! I like to call it the AK-47 of handguns!!
@javie793 You can call it that if you like, but you would be incorrect. Besides the fact that Glock is less reliable and less accurate than the guns I mentioned before, it is still the only handgun that I have ever seen blow up. Springfield XDs are cheaper, more reliable, better designed, and more accurate. BTW I also own a Glock, so I am not coming from a place of limited knowledge.
Well, I was stating my opinion based on my experience, and research. I know everyone is going to support their brand of preference regardless. Glock did start polymer frame technology that everyone now is trying to imitate, and surpass, and thats a fact! I am Glock owner, and have yet to have a problem with my 23(6766 rounds), or my 27(4251). I think folks are experiencing these problems because of lack of maintenance, and or using reloads which glocks do not like.
@javie793 HK started using polymer frames several years before Glock. I take excellent care of my guns (clean thoroughly after every use), and my Glock 30 has had far more problems than all of my other handguns combined.
Sorry, let me correct, they have been the most SUCCESSFUL polymer frame pistol , not the first. HK vp70 was the first polymer pistol. And alot of people have had a problem with a glock. Hell, the first pistol I ever shot was glock 19 at a gun range when I was 17. The gun jammed about two to three times if I remember correctly. Ranges love to use reloads, and don't really take care of their guns. I still think its the best overall handgun ever made. I don't go by prefer. I go by research done.
Continuing, but I have yet to have a problem with my 23 and 27. Maybe it's the caliber, I don't know. Love the glocks, a near perfect, simple, and functional design. I do not say perfect because nothing is! Maybe one day my 23 will fail to feed, or someones HK, or XD, if they haven't already. I also own a Beretta 92fs, which is my primary range pistol. Love the design, very accurate solid shooter, and 9mm ammo is cheaper than .40. For concealed carry, I do not trust anything, but my GLOCK!
You know, if people don't like the way you give instruction, that's fine. But I think that they should at least give you the courtesy of informing you of your mistakes in a polite and professional manner. And while I agree that a mag-slap isn't necessary for stovepipe, it is basic procedure for general clearing of malfunction in a semi-automatic for those times when seconds count. (Not that I would know... Ok. Yeah, I would know.)
i bought a glock 19 in 2000 and i couldnt even get thru a magazine without atleast 2 fail to extracts with 3 different brands of ammo....plus doing my yearly qual for work.. i had a spring break on a model 22 and make the gun a single shot...
You do not tap the bottom of the magazine to make sure it's seated. If it wasn't already seated you would have a failure to fire not a stove pipe; which is possible to get with a Glock if you limp wrist it. Also, if you're going to advocate grabbing the back of the slide, make sure you do it for your double feed video as well which is also done incorrectly.
@gmhiggins Glocks exploding IIRC were limited to .45 models, and of those were ones that were firing lead rounds without proper maintenance ie. they were not proplerly cleaned and lead fouling was building up.
WRONG! You don't do a tap rack on a stovepipe clear. You grasp the top of the slide with at least one finger over the stuck empty and pull back forcefully to clear the jam. Tap rack is when the gun does not fire because the magazine didn't seat or the slide didn't fully go into battery, or go all the way forward. If you want to give instructions please do it properly.
Glocks are known to have stovepipes if they are not held firmly with a good grip. If you do what's known as limp wrist grip, which allows the gun to move rather than the slide to move through its backward motion to eject the the empty it will stovepipe. A solid grip, but not a death grip, is important with semi-autos.
@45oneshotstop Yeah, I was aware of that, and I always have a proper grip.. But after I stopped using cheap 115 grain plinking ammo, the fte's stopped, just like the glock rep said. So great gun for hot loads.. not so much for cheapo plinking, and im okay with that.
The "classic" stovepipe "usually" has next round partially chambered. Old Instruction method was to reverse chop (backside of the support hand index finger) from the front sight to the rear and this would flick the stovepiped case out and allow the slide/ extractor to snap fwd on the "partially" chambered round. Iffy technique. If gun goes "CLICK!" Tap rack bang solves 95% with 1 easy to learn technique. FYI- no need to smack the mag base 2x. Just my 2c
BS! When you have a stove pipe there will be a round partially in the chamber....All you have to do to clear a stove pipe is flick the spent shell casing out and let the round finish chambering.
@greedkiller ahhhh I don't think so partner no illegal shit here SR9 legal and registered with the D.O.J just like my P345 Rug my Kimber Crimson Trace my Kimber Ultra RCP II my Mossberg 500 and my STAG M8!! so watch yourself and don't get to greedy!
Let me get this straight. Most stovepipes happen because of bad ammo. And by your logic, because it's a glock, it will automatically turn bad ammo into good ammo by way of "being inside a glock, the best gun ever made"?
While you're talking out of your ass, why not say "If you own a glock and went to michigan, you don't need to aim and it will never jam because glocks and people from michigan are the best."
Well at least he bought it in a store, the gun has a serial number and he will have a license for it (if needed in the state where he lives). The pistol was not acquired during a home invasion, serial filed off and carried concealed while on parole like your SR9 probably on all three accounts.
Actually a stovepipe is caused by a limp-wristed shooter, not the weapon, so you have the same chance to get a stovepipe with a Glock as any other weapon. And when you get a stovepipe there is usually no failure to feed so taping and racking will clear the stovepipe but it also ejects a perfectly good round. The best fix to a stovepipe is wiping your hand across the slide, ripping the stovepipe from the weapon.
If the gun misfires you do not stand around wondering if you have a stove pipe. Tap - to ensure the magazine is seated correctly. Rack- in case you have stovepipe or a bad round you want to eject. What is this rolling the pistol BS? Tap - Rack - stay on target none of this sissy double magazine tap and roll
Mr Noob, racking the slide while not holding the gun sideways may cause the spent cartridge to fall in the magazine well. This may cause a type 3 malfunction, which isnt something you want in a firefight or ISPC for that matter.
The most common cause of malfunction when shooting a semi-automatic pistol is failure to lock the wrist and forearm. A more effective clearing option is: 1. The non-weapon hand grasps the slide with edge of the index finger resting against the cartridge case. 2. The tips of the finger and thumb grasp the slide. 3. cycle the slide to the rear, trapping the spent case to the rear of the slide. This clears the spent case and chambers a new cartridge.
There can be a lot of malfunctions to happen by limpwristing a gun from firing. believe me that's not only by the system of the gun but by the fact of poor knowledge of using it.
no gun is perfect unless been edited on video. one of the possible cause of stovepipe is the limpwristing the gun, in other words, gripping the gun in a loose way.
Glocks jam daily.funny thing.LAPD,droped the Beretta 92,for the glock 21 45 acp.......4 months later....they are completly washing them selfs of the glocks....why????? 1st.Reason jams like a horrable D.J.And 2nd.having problems with the side blowing out??????WOW.SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH A TRIED-&-TRUE GUN.BERETTA!!!!!!!!!!!
@xRapidDavex The only malfunction I've ever had with a Glock was when I used a 31 round magazine in a Glock 26. I suspect it might be a surplus mag, so I'm sure the spring tension is just too low. It hasn't jammed at all with the 10 round magazines that came with it, and I've probably run about 2000 rounds through the gun.
That's great, but it doesn't mean it won't happen. What people don't realize is that as you use things they wear out and become more unreliable (machines contribute to their own demise). Be sure to change your springs at the manufacturer's recommended date.
@xRapidDavex Only time mine ever FTE's is when limp-wristers shoot it :) So out of thousands of rounds fired, it's FTE'd twice and never FTF'd, YMMV obviously.
most dependable, and most used gun ever made. considering all the police agencies, and US armed forces use.. by the way i have a glock 45acp and the new glock 10 mm and have never had any issues with it what so ever.. the best....
I know everybody has to khow the tap rack drills but truth is for a stove pipe you can clear it simply by knocking it out with your off hand you sweep your support hand over the top of the slide and knock the case out tward the grip when the case comes out the slide goes forward and your in bussiness
min14m3 Hipower was designed mainly by john browning from USA,also designed the 1911 and 50cal m2 machine gun and the 1894,92,86,95 winchester.and many more.
The Hi Power is American in origin, being designed by John M. Browning.
This explains why the Hi-Power and the M1911 share a lot of traits.
As for you not being a fan of either, that's cool. I tend to like the M1911A1 a lot, but there are lots of other weapons that anyone can rely on whenever they're needed to fight off a threat, including what some coin "combat tupperware."
haha, i liked taht joke about glocks not ever jaming and being the best gun ever made.
dont get me wrong, i like glocks, but they jam just like every other gun. i shot a glock17 at the range once with factory ammunition and i got a jam every magazine. the gun was clean with no visible or known defects and it was jamming like crazy.
trust me my friend, glocks are far from the best gun ever made.
or you could just tap and hit the damn stovepipe out of the gun......in a tactical scene you dont want to rack the slide if all you have to do is tap and knock the stovepipe out with your left hand
I was really hoping he would get a stovepipe after what he said lol

The most common cause of malfunction when shooting a semi-automatic pistol is failure to lock the wrist and forearm. A more effective clearing option is: 1. The non-weapon hand grasps the slide with edge of the index finger resting against the cartridge case. 2. The tips of the finger and thumb grasp the slide. 3. cycle the slide to the rear, trapping the spent case to the rear of the slide. This clears the spent case and chambers a new cartridge.

Yep, you'll never get it because glocks NEVER have failure to eject issues

got 2 stovepipes on my just bought used glock today. wondering what is going on
zrtyler 2 years ago
@xRapidDavex The only malfunction I've ever had with a Glock was when I used a 31 round magazine in a Glock 26. I suspect it might be a surplus mag, so I'm sure the spring tension is just too low. It hasn't jammed at all with the 10 round magazines that came with it, and I've probably run about 2000 rounds through the gun.

@outkasst88
That's great, but it doesn't mean it won't happen. What people don't realize is that as you use things they wear out and become more unreliable (machines contribute to their own demise). Be sure to change your springs at the manufacturer's recommended date.

@xRapidDavex Thanks, will do.

"Best gun ever made" I heard that and I almost pissed myself. Maybe the best gun ever made compared to the Fisher-Price lineup.

"Glocks, best gun ever made."
I guess you've never heard of this magical thing called Smith & Wesson?

I know everybody has to khow the tap rack drills but truth is for a stove pipe you can clear it simply by knocking it out with your off hand you sweep your support hand over the top of the slide and knock the case out tward the grip when the case comes out the slide goes forward and your in bussiness

Best gun ever made?
In comparison to what?
What does that even mean?
But, honestly, if you want to play "best gun" games, take a look at the Browning Hi Power.
It is the most widely issued and most successful sidearm in military history, no contest.
It was used by everybody, heck it even fought against itself in WWII.

HiPowers are just Eurotrash 1911s. I'm not a big fan of either.
mini4m3 3 years ago
min14m3 Hipower was designed mainly by john browning from USA,also designed the 1911 and 50cal m2 machine gun and the 1894,92,86,95 winchester.and many more.
m1garand1959 3 years ago
mini4m3 hipower designer was jouh browning american also designed 1911.
m1garand1959 3 years ago
The Hi Power is American in origin, being designed by John M. Browning.
This explains why the Hi-Power and the M1911 share a lot of traits.
As for you not being a fan of either, that's cool. I tend to like the M1911A1 a lot, but there are lots of other weapons that anyone can rely on whenever they're needed to fight off a threat, including what some coin "combat tupperware."

I tend to like the M1911A1 a lot.
But, to put everything in perspective, the best gun ever made is the gun that does not fail on you when you need it.
Watcher3223 3 years ago 3
I agree to both statements
JValentine13 2 years ago
you're talking about the Colt M1911A1 right? on a scale of 1 to ten how reliable is it?

Not to sound like a Glock nut hugger but I have never had a malfunction with any of my 3 glocks (g19, 22 and 35)
sickmak90 3 years ago
haha, i liked taht joke about glocks not ever jaming and being the best gun ever made.
dont get me wrong, i like glocks, but they jam just like every other gun. i shot a glock17 at the range once with factory ammunition and i got a jam every magazine. the gun was clean with no visible or known defects and it was jamming like crazy.
trust me my friend, glocks are far from the best gun ever made.

or you could just tap and hit the damn stovepipe out of the gun......in a tactical scene you dont want to rack the slide if all you have to do is tap and knock the stovepipe out with your left hand
dan16802 3 years ago
Not going to work 100% of the time. In some cases it can make things worse.
