This deddennosaur captain comes into contact with some agressive combat fighters, his ship is severely dameged but he maneges to destroy the colony and live to tell the tale.

his story will be passed down through many generations untill this mighty race is finally defeated.

Although in this case the Deddennosaur was probably the one instigating the combat : V deddennosaur first contact protocols basically go

1: Do you have weapons? If yes then destroy aliens. If no, go to 2.

2: Can your ship still fly? If yes crash ship into enemies until dead. If no, go to three.

3: Can you still move?  If yes, exit ship and kill everyone with your claws. If no, go to 4.

4: Stop being so lazy, get up, and kill everyone, jeez : I

How do you get those little fire trails behind your ship? I could never do it

Those are with the Space details--there's a row of engine-exhaust thingummies. Two of them are fire-like, the other two look like energy trails. Just slap them onto your ship and you'll be good to go. No sharks at all.
