Why the fuck are they spraying the foam inside the aircraft drenching the passengers when there is clearly NO fire inside! In fact there's NO fire outside either! They could have just laid down a blanket of foam over the front wheel area and maybe over the front of the fuselage just to make sure but not in side! I think it could actually hinder their escape by blinding them! Reflecting what greg3564 said at the end!

a fire simply does not start from a plane scraping on asphalt.. unless the body of the plane got insanely hot, ie; 200 degrees C, a fire would not have even been possible.. the front wheel didn't come out and the front scraped along. this is a routine method of landing which most planes are actually designed for believe it or not

besides I was referring to them filling the plane up with water - they were nearly drowning the passengers.. look at it!

Anyone else notice the reverse thrusters open before the nose touches down? Mustve been running out of runway... I love how they drowned the plane with AFFF even though there was no fire. They even sprayed into the interior of the plane through the open doors and escape hatches. Real pros, they turned a minor repair job into a major one, if not a total loss. Morons.

@danMX96 There's no smoke, therefor there is likely no fire inside the cabin. Even the passengers were soaked with AFFF. It is common to wet the runway down with AFFF prior to and even after landing without nose gear. But spraying down the entire aircraft inside and out is uncalled for.

@greg3564 Lots of friction = lots of heat generated. They did that to prevent any leaking fuel from starting a fire. An aircraft of that age would likely be a writeoff after an accident like that, anyways. The damage from something like this is much more significant than you can see.

Aircraft are designed and built with that in mind and that area is reinforced, just like the underside of the tail is reinforced when pilots over-rotate during takeoff and drag the tail on the runway. U.S. airport firefighters are trained NOT to do what these knuckleheads just did. The plane went from minor repairs to a total loss because of a bunch of overzealous, under-trained firefighters in China.

@greg3564 If you didn't look, there were HUGE sparks off the bottom fusealage when the plane impacted with the nose. Even the engine will scrape the runway, and who knows what will happen. If your a fireman, and you see huge sparks, you douse them. And its to make sure everyone is safe, not to take risks by doing a half-ass job, because air crash history will tell us, underestimating and taking risks on emergencies will prove to be fatal and costly errors.

@747spbraniff Spraying the runway, and in some cases the fuselage would be appropriate. But drowning the interior and the passengers is ludicrous. The proper response to this scenario would be to allow the plane to come to a complete stop. The firefighters would then deploy to their predetermined locations. If something is still smoldering, they would spray that area ALONE. Once it is determined there is no fire, they could then deploy the slides and CALMLY evacuate the plane. This was amateur!

these airplanes tend to have problems with their anti-skids and other hydraulic sensors especially with landing gears. MD-11s suck! they break down at my job at least once or twice a month! not fun having to unload and transfer volume to smaller 757s and a300s.
