how do u keep a budgie from flying around the house like crazy/room. do they poop every in the house if i let them fly around? also how difficult is it to get them bck in their cage?
@CEOSZyteff We got them from my moms friend who IS a breeder. and one is a male, one is female. And I will! I've finally gotten them to stay on my hand, even if they bite me while on there. But its still progress!
i wish my parakeets loved wAater. they continually get dirty by hiding, so they need baths. once my baby parakeet got himself stuck under the fridge and he was covered in goop he was so pathetic looking!
@fergiecrazy654321 They doesn't like to be treated un-respected doing, like holding them, grabeing them...you can invite them to step on your finger, but never too rude to them! Getting their trust to you gradually and then they will feel ease to rub their feather on your finger or shoulder. ^^
@MelficeSilesius Yes, it depens on the habbits of each bird. For example, my "Meow-meow" likes to be swinged high a lot, the higher, the more exciting, whereas, my "Mimi" afraid of being swinged. They both don't like to bath. Your Keewy is really amazing!!
@sandy588a Keewy isn't my bird... not sure if that part of the comment was aimed at me, but I'm just another bird-lover looking to help out birdowners with my (sometimes limited) knowledge. ;)
hey can any one tell me, like i just got my parakeet today but it wont chirp but just open its beak and make a bunch of clicking noises, what should i do?
It just needs to accommodate first, don't expect much from it the first couple of days, let it use to the new surroundings. But it's totally normal, my Keewy also was very nervous at first! Good luck.
Well I think it does sleep, but not at times when you come to abserve your budgy, it is still nervous when it hears things, but it will pass! If you want your budgie to get some more rest, cover the cage at night so it can get more rest and become more relaxed!
that looks just like my bird bubbles ive had her for a year shes soooo cute urs is too lol :3 mine likes flyin on my head alot lol idk y my bird doesnt like wtaer much
there are species of birds that have the name 'parakeet' that are from South America. A budgie is a type of parakeet, but a parakeet is not a type of budgie
I know. I didn't say budgies came from South America. But there are types of birds in South America (and other tropical countries) that are called parakeets, the word "parakeet" is in their names. Examples: Derbyan Parakeet, Indian Ringneck Parakeet, Plum-Headed Parakeet, etc. They are not budgies. Budgies are a _type_ of parakeet.
he looks just like my first parakeet blue en naughty haha he would fly to the table and steal the salade if the cage was open and then maede lots of screams like he d say look i did it hahaha
they aren't built to swim for long! .. not trying to flame you just going by the one i found floating dead in my open topped 10 gallon aquarium not a scratch on him but also had two big catfish in it .. -_- took a long break after that one was too sad for words or even to cry... it was only 4 months old.. onc etheir feathers get wet they get heavier and can't just fly out easily
i'm new to budgie care.i got a baby and its already tame after a few weeks.its aloen so i give it plenty attention and let it out a good long time each week.its scared of its bath tub.its really filthy.can you tell me what i should do to get it have a bath? im desprate!
They don't bathe because they're filthy, so you must find out the real reason of that. Does it vomit or doesn't it clean itself, and if yes, it can probably be sick (birds often don't clean themselves when they're sick). If you want your budgy to get used to water, you can use a water-spray (you know, which is used to spray at plants for example). But I know that there are a lot of budgies that don't like water at all...if you force them, they will hate it!
I've had budgies for 17 years now...And now this Keewy is dead, I feel I am ready for a new one, because they give you so much joy and laughter! But I have to say that you should give a budgy enough attention to get him this happy! If the bird gets enough TLC, it will bring you much, much joy!
it really is, mine goes in a smaller tub but she really has such a blast in it! it is so good to train your birds at a young age to go into water because its so healthy for them too!
such a cute budgie!!! My budgies don't seem to like bathing all that much, especially my kiwi, Typhoon and Mikey, but my Banana and Hail enjoy bathing alot.
Hahah, sweet, also a Keewy/Kiwi :) I've heard often that some budgies don't like water at all...but I think you can make them use to water by taking their drinking water away and put a bowl of water on/near their cage so they can explore and bathe in it.
Ahh, what a beautiful bird! I used to have a small bath that you could attatch to the entrance to the bird cage - using warmish water I would just leave it there once or twice a week for a few hours. To begin with the budgies looked very startled and thin(!) but eventually got used to it - the female had a go once if I remember but the male went in there every time after the third or fourth time it was up there - he loved it!
I don't exactly remember that, it was 3,5 years ago. If you want your parakeets te like water, you can put a bowl of water on/near their cage and take away their drinking water. If you let them alone, and it's quite hot, they will examine the bowl and drink from it, eventually bathe in it (if it's not too deep!)
sorry to hear :( we don't know what happened to Cici. he was sick one evening. we called the vet, they said to just watch him since he ate and was perched but the next morning he passed away before we could bring him in to see his doctor :( we miss him terribly.
I went to the vet with Keewy, he got antibiotics and some other drops, the vet said Keewy would get well at the end of the week but he died the day after...
So sorry to hear that. It breaks your heart when they die.. It may sound a bit callous but I think its always best to replace the little fellas when they 'cease to be' - they are great little beasts and while they can never be replaced per say (each having thier own very distinct personality), having a new friend always cheers you up! Regards.
Wow. How did you get him to like water? My bird just flies away whenever I try to get her near a dripping sink - or she drinks a few drops from the falling water and then flies back to her cage.
Put a bowl with water on/near their cage when it's very hot and let them alone for a while. Sometimes when they're alone, they are more curious and try to drink/swim in it!
cute when i went to holland thier was a man with a budgie, (his wings were cliped unfortunatly to a point where he couldnt fly) and the budgie used to run down the street screaming hello in dutch and english he used to have us in stitches ;)
To get your birds to get used to water your going to have to follow these steps.
-spray bottle him
-splash him in the sink
-put out a bowl of water and hold your bird lightly and swim it around with your hand occasionaly then it will get used to water.
I'm a good bird trainer for some reason. I havent trained my birds to do anything but I can train my friends birds in like 2 hours to do like 5 things. hehe.
I was lucky to have him! He loved it from the start, I never learned him to love water. Try to make your birdie swim in the summer, when it's really hot! :)
I had budgies too, but I read that they like to have shallow water to "bathe" in - I think in this case the bird is just trying to get through it really quickly to just barely get wet, but not submerge or anything (clearly bad). He'd probably enjoy a running faucet, and have a little shower under it!
Thanx!!! I will post more vids when I come back from holidays :)
I don't remember how long it took, but I know that at first, to make him adapt to our hands, we cut off his main feathers of his wings. It takes a lot of patience to make him adapt, but there were things which he loved at once, like music and water!!! ;)

This reminds me of my birds. Sometimes after their shower, they'll go to their water dishes and then take a bath.

It takes a lot of patience to make him adapt, but there were things which he loved at once, like music and water!!! ;)
