The original video never said it was physically impossible to draw a sword from your back, he even does it in the video... He said it was incredibly difficult and inconvenient in a tight situation.
To be fair, if a ninja found himself in a position where he had to beat someone to the draw then he probably should've stayed in ninja school a while longer.
Actually a normal sword is very hard to draw from the back and frankly quite a disadvantage, HOWEVER ninja swords were shorter then normal blades and were actually quite easy to draw from the back.
There is in fact ZERO evidence that ninja used swords at all, mainly because they would not have been trained in their use (at least, not as well-trained as the samurai).
umm, ninja were of the samurai class ( i know, confusing isnt it) and they, primarily trained in sttealth, but still had to know to use nearly every weapon known to man so they could wrenchit from an opponents hands and stab/slash/scratch/bludgeon him with it
it works but not practical. at least you are trying and testing things others say dont work. and to do rolls with sword on back will hurt you. but you are young grasshopper and if you keep trying you will be a great swordman one day.
It is indeed possible to draw a sword from the back, but it is too cumbersome and slow. You can see the struggle you had to go through to draw it. A swordsman should never have to struggle to unsheath his sword, I don't care his ryuha. Even more challenging is noto (that's returning the blade to the scabbard). I know people think the back looks cool, but if you look at any traditional martial arts such as eishin ryu (which I study) you will find tons of cool ways to draw and return a blade.
Yeah, it CAN be done, but the real thing is doing it fast (because you wanna cut first). The trick is using a long saya (scabbard), with a short blade (like a Wakizashi). It doesn't matter if it looks cool, the main thing is to draw your sword IN AN EFFECTIVE MANNER, to USE IT.
Anyway, this video shows exactly that, so is a good video (Prove that it is not efficient is as good as show an efficient way to doing it. So you won't do it that way, when actually necessary)
Hello Kai, please forget the draw from the back. You are going to cut your head off trying this. If your are serious about training with the sword, get out of the garage and into a real dojo for some good instruction. Please.
lol i wouldn't bother doin that with a katana it just looks wrong. I actually brought a banshee sword just so i could carry and draw something from my back. you need a specialy made sheath or smaller sword.
hehe you didn't prove he's wrong kaichi 'cuz in fight before you can grab sword like this you gonna die :P but its true that shinobis use short and straight sword and that are not even katanas :P
My first video response! Thanks very much for taking the interest and trouble. Well, in my video I do just about manage to draw a sword from my back, in much the same way as you just about manage it with the use of both hands and bit of hesitation. Hardly a great advert for the technique, though, eh, and you do admit to having to use a shortish sword. Great stuff.
....are you even old enough to OWN that?

So you uploaded this just to prove him wrong? Thats pretty sad if you ask me :L

I have created a support strap that now makes travaling with my katana alot easyer but offcourse drawing it is very impracticle from the back

This video was made in response to a video saying that it was physically impossible
I simply wanted to show it wasnt physically impossible
I do not think it is practical only physically possible
kaichi23 2 years ago
@kaichi23
He drew the sword from his back in HIS OWN video, of course it fucking possible.
And according to your comment, you are proving him right.
In other words, why the fuck did you make this video?
MediocreNed 1 day ago
ya, clearly you drew it quickly and without any problems... good job kid, you are a new breed of idiot

I think he edited the video after I made this
(he said it was impossible on the one i responded too )

Despite the fact it was awkward as hell, the real question is: Can you put it back ?
neveSykcuL 2 years ago 5
No way
It is very impracticle but better for carrying on long journeys
as long as i am warned befor combat i will be fine lol
kaichi23 2 years ago
u know that he did the same thing in the original vid right?

yes it can be done but, as you show, badly. your grip is broken the more you draw it. you are using fingers at the end but not gripping the katana.

the challendge was to do it not to do it well lol

The was whole point of lindybeige's video... its an impractical place to keep a sword if you ever have to draw it to save your life.
stevfusion 3 years ago
Exactly, he did it in his video as well. You're trying to prove a point that he's already said was possible but not exactly the most brilliant idea.

@BackyardDan yea? in the time it takes to draw even a hip mounted sword now all it takes is a millisecond and he has a hot bullet in his brain.
