I live in Finland, and have seen lots of reindeers in the North. Now when I saw this, it makes me feel sick -who are theese kind of people, that does this to animals!
If something like this comes to my eyes, I wont stand back and tolerate it. I really hope that this issue is taking care of!

It seems people don't know what semi-domestication means. These animals are owned by someone even most of the year they range freely. Lapinpete explained why this rounding situation happens - they are not wild animals you could hunt. Idea is the same as cattle was raised in old West.
Reindeer is used pretty efficiently. Furs and horns are used, even the hoofs are made into soup. But I wonder, if you want milk these animals for cheese you need to put them within fences. Is that better option?

Well I only know the situation in Scandinavia, not so well eg. in Russia where I think herding is probably even more important income to the people. I just think if herding continues as practice of people, these kind of mistreatment needs to stop and legislation of those transports should be changed. If herding is banned many people up North loses their work and they have to move South. It's very tricky and complex question.

I wonder why WSPA attacks on reindeer husbandry in Scandinavia though when we still have bigger problems like fur farming and factory farming where animals are kept in unnatural conditions for whole of their lives (and suffers same long travels in crowded vehicles to slaughterhouse as reindeer). Animal abuse in reindeer husbandry is very marginal phenomenon compared to general animal welfare.

HEY COME ON :D Study before you judge. Twise a year (or when they have to) people (usually Sami people) gather the reindeer into one place, and mark them with their own ear marks. Those markings are legal, and they use them that they indentify their own reindeer. Reindeer are free 24/7, exept on these gatherings. That causes the bleeding.. They also collect few reindeer thet are weak and can't survive anymore in the nature: they end those poor animals suffering before the nature does.

Reindeed meat is one of the most ethically produced varieties of meat. And as stated earlier, you cannot just ask them to die. The knife stabbing slaughter is illegal though, and thatś good.

It seems people don't know what semi-domestication means. These animals are owned by someone even most of the year they range freely. Lapinpete explained why this rounding situation happens - they are not wild animals you could hunt. Idea is the same as cattle was raised in old West.
Reindeer is used pretty efficiently. Furs and horns are used, even the hoofs are made into soup. But I wonder, if you want milk these animals for cheese you need to put them within fences. Is that better option?

Well I only know the situation in Scandinavia, not so well eg. in Russia where I think herding is probably even more important income to the people. I just think if herding continues as practice of people, these kind of mistreatment needs to stop and legislation of those transports should be changed. If herding is banned many people up North loses their work and they have to move South. It's very tricky and complex question.

@HeatherVintage88: Believe me or not, I am trained biologist and even put GPS-collars to reindeer calves to follow their growth and being killed by predators (natural circle without human influence, like they would live wild) and I've watched over few rounding situations (to ensure abuse doesn't happen). The very few wild reindeer (R.t.) populations in Norway (if I remember correctly) are endangered because of human acts.

I can't watch the whole of this video. I can't and won't EVER understand how people don't realise that MANY animals - not just humans - can feel pain. And what is even more disturbing (in the way people can treat them), they have FEELINGS. EMOTIONS. While they may not know WHAT is going on, they DO know something is wrong. I think it is absolutely shocking that people can ignore those facts and treat animals in the way I can't even imagine. It makes me VERY sad about the human race.

The number of caribou has declined from 2 million in the 1900's to about a million today. The caribou were also hunted by the Northern Indians for shelter and food.

It is exactly because caribous are not subject same kind of herding that reindeer is (which is demonstrated in the video) that they are declining (that is, if they are). WSPA has nothing to do with helping animals, they offer nothing constructive.

I wonder why WSPA attacks on reindeer husbandry in Scandinavia though when we still have bigger problems like fur farming and factory farming where animals are kept in unnatural conditions for whole of their lives (and suffers same long travels in crowded vehicles to slaughterhouse as reindeer). Animal abuse in reindeer husbandry is very marginal phenomenon compared to general animal welfare.

Something unknown for you if you don't know difference between wild forest reindeer and semi-domestic reindeer lol I am a biologist and love animals, I just hate fanatics like you since you make real work on animal welfare more difficult.

HEY COME ON :D Study before you judge. Twise a year (or when they have to) people (usually Sami people) gather the reindeer into one place, and mark them with their own ear marks. Those markings are legal, and they use them that they indentify their own reindeer. Reindeer are free 24/7, exept on these gatherings. That causes the bleeding.. They also collect few reindeer thet are weak and can't survive anymore in the nature: they end those poor animals suffering before the nature does.

Reindeed meat is one of the most ethically produced varieties of meat. And as stated earlier, you cannot just ask them to die. The knife stabbing slaughter is illegal though, and thatś good.
