  • Which city is this pow wow in?

  • i do three dances grass fancy nd straight

  • would love to see something like this at the Baraga,Michigan powwow :)

  • Now THAT is pride..pure and simple. And to let everyone know..I am white.

  • I'm looking for grass dancers actually trampring down grass. Any tips/links? This is beautiful too!

  • AWESOME!

  • luv this dance

  • i luhv grass dancers! they isz so sexy :) s.w.e.d :P

  • I love this!!!!

  • What tribe is this?

  • Sexay...

this is much better than the one on UTube-same video with music by Chubby Checker :(

  • I greew up in the Black hills of south dakota and had never seen a powow. Now I live in connecticut and my husband is going to Nimham in August, so I get to see it for the first time and see him dance as well.

  • I thought so! I'd recognize that regalia anywhere. Same with the dancing. One of the greats!

  • I love their dancing............

  • very nice every grass dancer is on the beat, they must bein practising a lot together.

  • I have a friend thats NA but she knows nothing about her culture! I'm mexican and I know every single thing about my ansectors and I'm only 13 shes 16.but she does know that she Apache

  • Ow i can tell you that you will drool, i know one of these dancers.

A great grass dance is here shown.

  • Put them in buckskin pants and I'll be drooling..hahaha

  • That's Marty Pinnecoose in there, isn't it?

  • That is Marty.....

  • awesome vid!! grass dance is better in my eyes. and i din't like it when people discuss the things white people have done. they may have taken our land, our rights, tradition. but we still live and thats what matters, as long as we live we have Heritage and Hope so that one day we will be given the things promised thro time, or force

  • sigh, I hate comment limits. And yes, I have a supposed, what one, Native American ancestor? And no, that doesnt even count, I agree, but guess what, it does happen. While it does happen, I simply dont bother mentioning unless to make someone look dumb, because, while I hate math, thats like, what uh, 0.1 % Native. Ooooooh, jajaja, I had one grandparent a few generations that had been here longer than the rest. I am soooooooooooooo cool.

  • you're using white math- blood is blood- true natives realize that.

  • You guys are just as ignorant as the whitest, white, Aryan KKK douche bag member. I suggest you study history and the sufferings of other peoples (and GASP, yes even white peoples, because shit on, walked on whites existed) instead of constantly bad mouthing what you call whites. I familiarize myself with the sufferings of my fellow man, from the most unknown to the most constantly given attention. Perhaps you too should do so. Assumptions make me want to puke. And yes, I am a white chick.

  • WTF!!! ARE U TALKING ABOUT?

  • fuck you, you dont know shit! you dont know what you people did to our people you guys fucked us up but i'm not saying all whites people are bad but its whites like you who makes us fucking mad and making hate you guys cause your the most fuckin ignorant person ever bitch

  • I agree with lance its one thing TO KNOW you're Native and another to find a new found cool or maybe your parents found it and to claim it Many of US Natives Dont like that. Some say that one drop line but maybe we need to speak the truth more often instead of getng peoples hopes up....

  • Beautiful! Grass dancers are my favorite! Their steps are just so unique. Lance -- relax my brother. We all want to celebrate that wonderful part of our heritage no matter how watered down. Make NO mistake who tried to take our heritage away from us and make us anything but Native. But, its okay. They can't take what is in my heart and my spirit.

  • i agree with that, as long as we live, it's still with us at all times!

  • very very nice ! (;

  • thank you very much for sharing. Awesome! Love it. So So Beautiful.

  • Geez..lancedakotawhite horse..some of us just don't even know because of assimilation. We didn't ask for it!!!! We are the result of it man!

  • To each his own. We are who we are ya know.

  • why does everyone say there goddamn cherokee. "my great grandmas mom, well she was 1/6th cherokee" god shut up. you steal our lands now you want to steal our sweat lodge. go back to fucking europe

  • Great!

  • this is so freakin' nice...great style all around

  • Stomp it down fellas!!! I really enjoyed this alot.

  • Thank you for sharing.......Beautiful

  • wado

  • Where was this??

  • Osyio, I am Cherokee and proud of it. I want everyone to know our traditions and language so we can contine our heritage. I am a drummer and feel that the e do da wants me doing this for our people.

So wheather your 1/8th or 1/16 it doesn't matter!!!! for ONE drop of Cherokee Blood unites us all.

    Lani (Lavonne)

  • the oklahoma cherokees are laughed at becouse of all that 1/16 and 1/32 bullshit. almost every white person i know says their part cherokee.lol nothing against the real ones who you can tell are native.

  • Wow...that waz an awesome team dancing.....

    ethete!

  • words of truth Ahwahneechee

    the truth never changes

    that is why its true.

  • Speak the truth and you will have to defend nothing. lol

  • I'm confused, slam me if you want cause im only 1/8 cherokee, but why do you say "indian" or "native american" i mean i understand both but i don't tell people im either. i say" im cherokee (which i am very proud of) but i don't say "im european" i say "im danish" (which im aslo very proud of) please answer because i am honestly comfused

  • I call myself Indian or Native interchangeably but not Native American...until there is actual equality for Natives in America, I will not pretend that there is by calling myself "Native American".

  • cool :)

  • its not the best dancing i have seen but as a native its better then what i can do

  • yeah ...verry nice for people from city..but this is not original..are just comericial...real indians don;t come in town to show us ther culture... i lived with an indian tribe 3 mounth...trust me..this are indiand who war kicked out from tribe or leaved form tribe to win money in civilisation.

  • Maybe that is true of the tribe you know, but it is not true of most. Some dances are public and celebratory others are ceremonial and kept private w/in the tribe. I know many traditional Pueblo Indians who are members of their tribe and they are happy to invite and share their celebratory dances with others.

  • this type of dancing is kept within the tribes and taken on the road to other locations aswell but it is also for everyone. most gatherings try to attract other races to the gatherng to help teach our culture to people like employeeturnedgunman, who do not understand these events and instead say things about a race and the culture which we embrace as indigenous people.

  • Totally awesome.

  • just because your brain is too small to comprehend it's powerful meaning doesn't give you the right to bash someone's culture.

  • to the employee dude you dont know anyting about culture do you.

  • Fantastic!!

  • dude one in yellow was beastin

  • I cant make it out, I think this is Rose Hill, It looks like a Schemiztun Team Dance contest, with Rose Hill singing... Its a great song, I've known Rose Hill to ave sung that song many times. Michael

  • they have shit down

  • BEAUTIFUL!

    BEARR7

  • ya'll need to come to memphis, tennessee!!! i would soo go to your show!!! im part cherokee(im white though)and love your dances!!!

  • i love native americans but i live in london england i think you guys should came over haer one day so we can see and hear what it feels like i know i would i'm a big fan

  • Doe's anyone watching this video plan on being at the March 08 Pow Wow? We are having a show in Denver on Sat. night the 22nd. We will be playing with Native metal band Bloodline from New Mexico and Native Rock band Coupstick from Denver. We will also be Joined by Native war drummer Jojo Whitecloud for our set. The venue is only 3 miles from the Coliseum. It's all ages!! Send me a message on here if you would like more info. We will also be at the Pow Wow handing out flyers on the 21st.

  • very cool, keep dancing indoors or out. we indians need to hold on to our culture and traditions, if we have to dance in our own living rooms no one can comment on that. i say dance in the street in front of the world to see.

  • "we indians"

since your proud to be native american

i suggest you stop using that term

considering the fact that its offensive

its a slang term just like the word nigger or spic. if you knew a thing or two about history you want call us and yourself a indian. the white man called our enslaved ancestors indians as to insult them just like they called the blacks "nigger"

  • Christopher Columbus called us "una gente in Dios", a people in God. I don´t find that offensive at all. The term "Indian" derives from that (no, Columbus didn´t think he had come India, that country was called Hindustan). Be proud to be IN DIOS, everybody.

  • ill never be an indian

i dont care what anyone says

it offends me because im not an indian

    im native american

im not from india neither are my parents, grandparents or ancestors

  • but you call yourself an american? belonging to the great european colonization power?

  • what else is there?

whether anyone likes it or not this land is called america

and whether any native likes it or not they will always be a native

native to the land now called america

    native american

  • THIS IS CHAMP YOE...fucken people dont even see $ when its right in there faces, dumb ass's all this paper we could be rakein in OMG

  • Its amazing what dance does to the Human Soul.......Im in a TRANCE!!!! watching this. PRICELESS.!

  • Ah, the Bird Tribe!.. THank you Ahwahneechee!

  • nothin is wrong wit dancin indoors. me n my brothers do the teams dancin whenever we can so this is an awesome video.

  • what are u doin were did u get the music i like it were try to make a dance for international night

  • It makes my heart sing to see your dance.

    Thanks!

    Tunka'shila

  • wake up and smell the coffee, there are many of these events all over the continent. And most are held outdoors, except in the winter months.

  • we used to have them outside during the winter months but times change

  • wake up and smell the coffee, there are many of these events all over the continent. And most are held outdoors, except in the winter months.

  • What's wrong with doing it in a sporting center if that's the place you have? My most precious memories come from dancing, and I know that this culture isn't dying. I'd rather dance in a sporting center if that's all the space available than not dance at all!

  • nothing wrong its the guy i replied to above my messages, he says "its sad that such a culture is lost and almost vanished and only act in a sporting centre", i dont agree with his statement, there are many pow wows helld outdoors, as well as ceremonies, our culture is very much alive!

  • I was talking to the guy above you, I just wanted to keep the comments in order. Sorry for the confusion!

  • I was talking to the guy above you, I just wanted to keep the comments in order. Sorry for the confusion!

  • awesome

  • ahaha Yeppie Yay Yeppie Yo!.. Aho! :P

  • Pow wow wow yeppie yay yepppie yo lmao

  • NATIVE PRIDE

  • The power from these dances are undeniable. Are they singing while dancing or is there a separate group? thanks for posting!

  • i've never seen team dancing befors, but if you could fan dancers, these guys would get it.... awesome!

  • A little off at times but very nice style. One should aspire to be 1/2 as good as them

  • PURE RESPECT FROM ME,,

  • the dance in captivating

  • would anyone, by chance, know what their white fringe is made out of?

  • Some make it from yarn, others make it from ribbon and others use fringe. The dancers in this video are using yarn.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank goodness, we managed to save some of our own culture! I am reconnecting every day and looking at the AMAZING CHOREOGRAPHY! OUR PEOPLE CAN DANCE!!!!

  • that is the coolest team dance i seen

  • this is some sweet team dancing..

  • the team dancing is so tight! It must take lots of practice to work that well together...WASTE KSTO!

  • dats very good i imprest nd northerntradishchick can u askr uncle if i can use these movwhen i team dance wit my grass dacing buddies?

  • Beautiful people ! Beautiful cultura ! Un cordial saludos de todo mi corazon de Europa de Polonia !

  • w000! My uncle first one filmed and first one struttin' his stuff! Yay!!

  • beautiful video. you should be very proud of your people, your culture and your heritage. very soulfuelling and spiritual...your ancestors would be proud....love and peace

  • how lovely and spiritual. Very touching to see other Native cultures of the world as I'm an Aboriginal Australian (the first Native people of Australia) and a Torres Strait Islander. Aboriginal people have one thing in common and that would be 'one with the earth, the land and our culture'. We are all very spiritual people. My people are from the Angkamuthi tribe (tip of Australia, Injinoo-Cape York, Queensland. I would love to go to America just to see the Indigenous people from that country.

  • Beautiful! Makes me proud to be Native Canadian/American

  • Wow. Thats beautiful. The dancers are awesome and the singing always gives me goosebumps. Great video.

  • Absolutely beautiful - the costumes, the singing, the grace of the dancers......thank you for sharing that with me.

  • My mom is Haitian and My dad is from the Catawba/Potawatomi nation. People tell me i'm too 'dark' to be Native. 'You don't look indian, you're too dark'. wtf???? BS. There is no certain look for anyone. If we all looked the same we'd be boring What a fucked up world we live in. No one has the right to try and take anything away from me.

I'm not so hung up on the i'm 2/4 or 3/6 yada yada shit. I'm half Black and Hald Native. That is what I go by. I embrace both of my cultures.

  • It's disgusting, yeah, but in order to claim your rights, you have to be fractionated in some kinda way...I'm a quarter blackfoot and a quarter Cherokee...and people are like, Why are you so white??Did we forget about the Viking Influence??

  • it makes it all better then way they are in sync with each other

  • Great dancing! But where are the drum players? To see some native drum players, make a search by copying and pasting the following words:

    Pow Wow 2007 Kahnawake

  • Peace and respect from Bismarck, North Dakota. May all people one day live in peace.

  • whats the difference what it is 1/2, 2 thirds, two pounds who cares? it's in your blood, your heart, your soul

  • You're one of those ppl that said 2/3, aren't you? ;-)

  • i said, the government is the only one worried about the percentage of your native blood, reasin being is that they dont have to provide any benefits for you. I know I have native blood from sitting down and talking with my Grandpa. Screw the governments standards.

  • also, each of the some 250 federally-recognized tribes set their own particular standards, i.e. quantum blood, etc hell, if they didn't, everybody's native..."my great grandmother was a cherokee indian princess blah blah..." you know?

  • Grass dancers are the most amazeingest in the aboriganal coulers..

im Ojibwa xD and my lil sis is a jingle Dress Dancer!

  • Im a littel Nateve 1/8 or 9. That was absolutle wuderful.

  • 1/8 would be more correct, no? It always makes me chuckle when people say they are 1/3, or 2/3, or 2/5 native. We all have only two parents; the denominator would have to have an exponential value (is that the right term?) of two - 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 etc...though after 1/8 I'd stop counting. Ok, I'll shut up now, lol.

  • in canada, imagine, you can actually claim to be of "metis" descent, 1/244th indian blood, some ridiculous number like that with full hunting and fishing rights, sometimes even greater rights in some instances. anyway, the whole thing is disgusting.

  • acually it's not disgusting at all! the french settlers came to canada and married native women. We live on settlements and not reservations, metis people went to residential schools just the same, went through persecution and had to fight to have the right to hunt and fish on our own land. We don't get medical or dental or any other "greater rights" except that we get a protion of our schooling funded.

i`m tired of people getting the two mixed up. remember theres two parts to every story!

  • i know who the real metis are! You might be one of them..do you know how much metis blood there is in someone who is 1/244 parts indian!? that's like hardly metis at all..go and look at my post that you initially responded to, i haven't mixed up anything. yes the metis nation has rights, of course they do, it's a given..but some of whom i've already explained to you thereof shouldn't But they DO. Get IT. Yes, be tired all ya want but at the right people, though. Ooooo-Kaaaye?

  • wait a second. i understand who the metis nation of alberta is, the metis nation of canada as well. in my previous post i'm referring to people who, formerly, were racists AGAINST indian people, who showed at a social event and function which automatically qualified them to BE card carrying members of a "metis association" which thereby, in turn, allowed these yahoos to go galavanting around countrysides killing everything within sight!

  • Oh, it's "your" land? I didn't think natives believed anyone could own the land?

  • We can say "outfit" or the girls say "a set."

I have seen the people get really upset at their regalia being called "costumes" though.

  • growing up all my native life they have always been called costumes, or as time have evolved a new one has come to pas "native gear".

  • you would not call a Marines uniform a costume, would you? This type of dress is for cerimonial pouposes, such as during a "powwow"

  • Regalia is prefered.

  • These are NOT Costumes People!!!!!!!!!

  • They are infact "costumes", ie; they don't go around dressed like that everyday.

  • they are not costumes...

  • Visit unityinc. org for more on the scoop. Tell all your native friends about it

  • U.N.I.T.Y. is going to Oklahoma this summer of 2007. Natives from all over the nation will be there with their tribe. Come meet new people, share your culture. Their will be entertainment; food and dances. Their will also be workshops for college and health...Last year UNITY went to Buffalo, NY, and it was fun. Research some more about it. See you there!

  • Thanks so much for this video: I've been reading lots of books about native american history and culture ever since I took a NA lit. course at uni and here on YouTube I get the chance to see fragments of what I've been reading about. Thank you all for sharing your beautiful culture!

  • Didja ever notice no one every says: "I'm reading a lot of white culture books..."

  • Well I live in a white culture and know enough of my own culture and the people with different backgrounds in Europe, it's sometimes interesting and useful to read about the other people in this world. If it is disturbing to you, sorry for my interests

  • When I see this I feel sad, because I think I have lost a valuable part of myself. Thank´s for sharing, I love it!
