The main problem with christian is FEAR. They fear death , they fear HELL, that's why they won't accept anything that is wrong in the bible and will try to justify it. He will never be able to marry because he is already married and the woman will most likely live with her father, hence the large payment made to him. This, by the way, probably seldom happened because the punishment was severe. You can't look at this in comparison to modern times. In these ancient days marriages were often arranged at very early ages.

As far as back in biblical times, I'd be very upset with you and would fully expect you to meet your obligation. Remember the Bible says revenge is the Lord's. As far as her being continuously raped after marriage, the same thing could happen to a woman who was a virgin when she married her husband. The regular laws that were in place should apply.

In case you weren't aware, the entire Old Testament took place prior to the rise of the modern welfare state, so the only person available to support this poor woman was the perpetrator. The woman from your hometown was correct, once a man raped a virgin, he became legally obligated to marry and financially support that woman for the rest of her life, because his criminal actions virtually ruined any chances she had of ever marrying someone else. He wasn't put to death because he was needed to fulfill his responsibility.

Good video and good points. I wish more people would watch this. I like your point about there is a reason we don't allow this kind of behavior in our society today. An you're right it was not ok back then any more then it would be today. It was bible verses like this and many, many, many, others that changed my mind about God and christianity.
