A progressive tax system gives corporations incentive to use their profits to reinvest into the company and hire more workers. A flat tax does not have the same incentive.
Facts are stubborn things. Fact: It is raining today. Fact: the market is up 2.5% so far today. Therefore rain causes the stock market to go up?
Did the boom of the 1950s have more to do with tax rates? Or did it have more to do with our competitors being destroyed the decade before during WWII?
It is insulting how both liberals and conservatives try to frame their arguments, that by presenting "facts" they've somehow satisfied their burden of proof in explaing causality. Grow up.
They worked when Reagan did it you ignorant POS! He doubled the tax revenues by doing it too. Why do Democrats hate America & want to see us fail? I don't get it.
@falcondriver100 Reagan did cut taxes initially, then proceeded to raise then 11 times, Reagan signed the largest corporate tax increase in history! The greatest achievement of Reagan's administration may be the roughly $155 billion budget deficit he is left to his successor, which is nearly twice the deficit he inherited from Carter.
@falcondriver100 You've been listening to too much GOP-TV (Fox). The fact is:
Reagan raised the gase tax by 5c/gal & instituted a payroll-tax hike to fund Medicare & SS That came on the heels of his 1982 tax increase, again the largest in U.S. history at the time, & repeatedly increased taxes & eliminated loopholes worth $50 billion. He supported the Tax Reform Act hit bus with a record-breaking $420 billion in new fees. So when faced with rising unemployment he raised taxes
When I shredded your "Regan tax cuts raised revenues" to shreds with 2 earlier comments containing some facts that Republican politicians forget to mention - you simply strive for a "clever" quit and don't respond to the facts.
You're like an insect exposed to the light, you scurry to find another rock to hide under.
@megarational I didn't see them douchebag & you're a full of shit moron. Reagan gave us the largest tax cuts in history, then yes, he did raise them at very small increments, tweaking the economy. All 11 tweaks raised them to nowhere close to where taxes had been before the cuts, so he IN FACT DID CUT TAXES! He lowered the highest taxes from 72% to 38%! All your points are just word games. Everyone knows Reagans legacy was low taxes. Nice try though!!
Is the interviewer at the end suggesting that the young turk is pushing Americans to think his way because he actually believes that a high tax on the rich will cause them to outsource to maybe oh i dont know TURKEY!
@MenwithHill The wealthiest 10% in USA pay the largest share of any OECD country: a 45% of all taxes. In Sweden they pay 27%, in France 28%, Germany 31%, Denmark 26%... Only in Italy and USA contribute above 40%. Because in those european countries, taxes on consumption (a regressive kind) and labor income are MUCH higher. If you want the American tax code to look like those countries, let´s create a national sales tax of 20 or 25%. In Denmark they pay a 25% VAT for everything.
@xaviqaz "The top 10% of Americans pay 45% of Individual Income Taxes. "
It is no surprise that growing income inequality results in the top 10% paying a larger share of income tax. The median income has barely kept pace with inflation since 1980. If workers shared in economic growth according to their contribution to economic growth, the top 10% would pay a much smaller percentage of the individual income tax but they would also earn a lot less in proportion as well. You dope.
which started the whole concept of securitizing pools of mortgages to keep cash at banks to loan out more money, and then in the 90s idiots started taking out 4 mortgages on homes with premeditated plans for foreclose at a profit, all of which was encouraged by the government through anti-redlining laws. cenk fails to mention all of this, drawing dumb conclusions from mere correlations between two completely unrelated things, and the ignorant masses buy into it because they're jealous of success
the economy can survive with 70% taxes, and we've learned that that's not sustainable. real factors contributing to the depression were a monetary contraction caused by the fed, smoot hawley tariff, NIRA I+II and AAA (all 3 declared unconstitutional), the NLRA of 1936, and a number of other government blunders, not just "wild speculation unleashed by the free market" as those who want more government control would have you believe. the same is true for 2008, FDR created fannie mae
on the government to run our economy, instead of focusing it primarily in free market enterprise. cenk makes stupid arguments that make no sense, like that cutting taxes contributed to the depression. that's such a dumb argument, there were no income taxes at all before 1913 and we never had a depression. his argument about the bush tax cuts contributing to the housing bubble is also unfounded and rejected by an economist with any common sense. cenk is a raging liberal who thinks
@inlines8master i meant that we never had a depression when the income tax was nonexistent, so making the argument that a 25% top marginal rate contributed to the depression is just pure stupidity. we went 135 years with no collapse that bad, and we had a smaller government with NO power to directly tax the people. low taxes don't cause depressions and sustained unemployment, bad government policies do when they have way too much control over the economy
what is cenk's response to unemployment benefits lasting for so long? he told art laffer in a debate that he thought unemployment benefits had a good "multiplier effect". this keynesian nonsense is the "logic" supporting our current spending policies, both under bush and especially under obama (tarp for bush, stimulus for obama). once we get to the point where we think pumping money into unemployment benefits is going to stimulate the economy, we have made ourselves completely dependent
@plynth2 half the people this country pay no income taxes, which is ridiculous. if you dont think there are a huge number of people on the take, you're mistaken. by the way almost all the welfare reform under clinton was undone under the bush administration in the name of compassion. obama just extended unemployment benefits from 36 weeks to 3 years, i know people that aren't looking for job because they can sit on unemployment.
Corporate tax has to be high, for its both moral and economic duties. Tax cuts for the poor and small busieness are also great. Having a tax system that is actually progressive is more sustainable and as pretty much all resreach (Wilkinson and Pickett et al) shows inequality causes huge societal problems too.
@Kunguskang high corporate taxes are stupid. with all the Smart governments subsidizing their industries, we have lost our competitiveness. think about that next time you get laid off
@paths92 What W raised taxes? Umm, remember the Bush Tax cuts that the rich are doing anything to hold onto, including threatening to crash the global economy? Still talking about them today..? You do live on the planet earth, correct?
@paths92 Reagan raised the gasoline tax by 5c a gallon & instituted a payroll-tax hike to fund Medicare & SS That came on the heels of his 1982 tax increase, again the largest tax increase in U.S. history at the time. reagan repeatedly increased taxes to compensate for gaps in the gove's revenue stream by raising rates eliminated loopholes worth $50 billion & supported the Tax Reform Act hit bus with a record-breaking $420 billion in new fee So when faced with rising unemployment he raised taxes
@paths92 Asked with all all the proud ignorance of a tea bagger, reagan did cut taxes initally, then proceed to raise then 11 times, For fuk sakes, Reagan signed the largest corporate tax increase in history! The greatest achievement of reagan's administration may be the roughly $155 billion budget deficit he is left to his successor, which is nearly twice the deficit he inherited from carter.
When asked how the Bush administration planned to convince the public that the nation's food supply was not tainted with pesticides, the bureaucrat replied: "We plan to say it over and over for a number of years." Sound familiar? Tax cuts for the rich create jobs? Over and over again, yet not one economist with any integrity agrees. A brilliant, well-oiled propaganda machine, funded by big corporate interests, is stealing billions from the middle class.
back to the 18th century, look at the list on wikipedia. this is just liberal bulshit and it isn't backed up by any legitimate economists. yet its simple and easy for the uneducated to buy into because it fits into their prior bias that people making more money than them are evil and need to be stopped.
blew up housing prices and caused the housing crisis in 2008. the tax cuts have NOTHING to do with the housing crisis, or the recession that began in the fourth quarter of 2007. this guy is a liberal who simply can't stand the rich making money. he talks of "speculation" like it causes all our problems. what a MORON, MORE THAN HALF OF THE COUNTRY OWNS STOCK, its not just the rich playing the market, and this "speculation" doesn't cause recessions. we've had recessions every 10-15 years going
he's making ridiculous conclusions from a very limited window of data. the great depression didn't begin until 1930 when the smoot hawley tarriff was passed, unemployment remained low from the time the recessoin began in august of 1929 (that's right, the recession began months before the crash) until the spring of 1930. government policies plummeted the economy into a downfall, and bad monetary policy was the biggest contributor. in the same way, government encouragement of home ownership
if low taxes in the 20s caused the depression why didn't we have a depression 15 years earlier when there were no taxes at all? this guy's an idiot and unqualified to be talking on this subject. the housing crisis was a result of policies going back to the formation of fannie mae in 1938. 45-70 as the golden years? are you kidding? average unemployment wasn't any lower then than it was during the 90s or from 03-07. he also leaves out the disastrous 70s which the great society contriubuted to
Rich people that I've known are the cheapest people I've ever met. I don't believe in the trickle down theory, they horde their money or speculate with it in an attempt to make even more money to horde or speculate. Lightbulb! I heard that oil prices are being driven higher by speculation... could there be some connection?
@cloudshe Listen, nobody wants to have to blame republicans, but with an enormous national debt, a war, and mass layoffs (problems all caused under the bush administration) it seems we are being forced too. Im not trying to make anyone mad or grudge full, but if a republican is elected on almost any of the stances all of its representing party members hold we will see a repeat of the bush administration. Dont go blaming Obama for any issues that he picked up from Bushes Presidency.
@xhackmasterx okay, but when are you going to hold obama responsible for things he said he would do but failed at? how many BILLIONS did he waste on 'shovel ready' jobs that weren't? when he said the economy was so important to him that that was his highest priority, why did he concentrate on social issues instead? how has (or will) obamacare help the economy? where did all the stimulus money go (hint, only 1/3 went to 'help' the private sector). what about that tax the rich lie? obama=BS
@cloudshe Obama is facing structural problems that have developed over more than 2 decades, & is hampered by an obstructionist GOP.
As for "concentrating on social issues", he was dealing with the prob's with the h.c. insur. system at the SAME TIME as dealing w/ economic problems. (eg: Tarp, stimulus, credit card reforms, financial reforms, saving $63 B per yr. by eliminating the banks as unnecessary middlemen in student loans, successful bailouts of the domestic auto industry.)
@megarational somehow the "obstructionist gop" was unable to prevent obamacare, billions to keep states' union employees from having to take pay cuts, billions thrown away on dubious Green initiatives, investors getting screwed to protect union pensions etc etc. sure he bragged that he could "multitask" that is wasn't that hard, he was exceptionally capable. think back, how did THAT work out?
time to quit blaming Obama's incompetence on mr Bush, Obama's failures speak for themselves imho
@megarational no more so than the democraps when they were the minority. obama was supposed to be the uniter, whadda joke. Hope, Change, elected by Suckers
@cloudshe Yes, it is a joke, because Republicans are not interested in "uniting" or "working together". They base their policy on opposing anything Obama is for, and lies and slander to bring him down and get their own worthless corrupt ideological dinosaur asses back in power.
@ERPPP so i guess you have no suggestions at all. funny, you Sound like an obama supporter, all mad at "repubes(?)" not knowing why, and not having any idea how to make anything better
@ERPPP where do i start, since you have contributed nothing so far? do you have any suggestions besides "Re-elect BHO so's we can keep getting our unemployment"?
@ERPPP My Fault for not 'spaining it in simpler terms: Voters were NOT impressed with Obamacare, for instance. figure it out from there mr genius
you Should be listening if you want yr Democrap buddies to do a little better in 2012. maybe Hillary will be somewhat more Right-Center than the clowns you guys put in in 2008.
OBTW the "tax the rich" fix is way too little & way too "where the F are the F'n JOBS". you can read my other posts or just ask for simpler terms if that fails
@cloudshe because they won't allow it dumb nuts its not as easy as going in their and saying its the law the stubborn old bats of the old mens society and other rich dumb asses are doing everything in their power to make it so the poor have more taxes while they continue to filler their poffers as the poor starve its ignoramus's like you that are ruining our country gen an education loser
@engelmohr2006 c'mon now! pres obama and the democraps sold us Obamacare, but they couldn't forestall legislation to let the tax cuts Expire!?! where are the Priorities!
i'll tell you, grasshopper, either 1) they didn't think raising taxes would work OR 2) they didn't want to lose their biggest talking point: BLAME THE RICH
of course there's always 3) BHO and his Congress ARE GROSSLY INCOMPETENT
@cloudshe Who blamed the rich? I dont quite remember that happening seeing as how the majority of the Democrats in Congress (and Obama) are rich which (rhyme not intended) means they would be blaming themselves. And legislation to increase taxes on the rich was brought up in March (which also means they raise taxes on themselves). I think you may be a little to eager to bash the left. Take a step back, collect the facts, THEN form your opinion.
@UncontestedTruth what are you saying? that the democrats can complain about the rich getting tax breaks, but they really are just trying to keep from taxing Themselves?
Facts? BHO and friends only had to deny the legislation, the tax increases would have become automatic. is That what you are confused about? the common thread is the the lie that More Taxes on the Rich solves all our problems. how is that NOT blaming the rich?
@cloudshe Wow. They are blaming Bush for creating the tax cuts. How could they blame the rich (themselves) if they paid their taxes? Your first 2 questions make more sense than anything else you said which is just a repeation of what I said. But seeing as how they have brought up legislation, problem is solved. And the Bush tax cuts last for about 2 more years. So denying the tax cuts will leave a 2 year hole. And taxing the rich will help America but not solve all problems
@UncontestedTruth it might be hard to argue that, at the time, the W tax cuts were effective in promoting growth (and extra revenue), wasn't it a Record of 18 quarters of straight growth?
but this crap about blaming Bush or the Rich is pure baloney. the democrats wanted power, they got it, NOW they have no standing to complain that the Rich are not taxed enough when they could have straightened that out themselves. They constantly complain about income disparities but do NOTHING
@cloudshe If you payed attention to the 2010 congressional elections you would know that they DONT have power. The first idea was to let the tax cuts die by themselves. But as I said thats a 2 year hole. Since the republicans now have majority and filibustered (Bernie Sanders) for a while it seems that the push for new taxation of the rich will be shot down the the republican party. They have done something but cant accomplish anything because there is no bipartisan support from republicans
@UncontestedTruth well, if the democrats had the choice between Obamacare and taxing the rich, obviously they picked what they thought was more important
they would rather Bitch about the rich than get their way and tax them to bejesus, because they KNOW it won't fix anything. class envy may get them some cheap votes, but it's the SPENDING that's screwing up the country
@cloudshe As I said. The plan was to let the Bush era tax cuts expire. But with the new Republican majority in Congress, there is a threat that it will be renewed. The democrats assumed the problem would fix itself which it would have if the republicans didnt want to continue the tax cuts to give themselves tax cuts. So they didnt "pick what was more important." They just didnt think it would be an issue.
@UncontestedTruth there is no "new gop majority", it's only in the house, obama owns the senate and the presidency. i stand by my analysis, 'tax the rich" is democrat party demagoguery, reality is they are hypocrites on the issue, there was no legitimate reason not to let the cuts expire and give up their talking point imo
@cloudshe Democrats tried to let the tax cuts expire last year but republicans filibustered the renewal bill until Obama was forced to extend all of them for 2 yrs or all tax cuts would have been gone and Obama would have broken a key promise of everyone below $250000 gets cuts. So in actuallity its the GOPs fault. No offense but just saying facts are facts. Had they not filibustered like they were school children the talking point would be gone. 1 congressmen held the floor for 8hrs straight
@UncontestedTruth i'm just saying they LOVE being able to blame the rich and the corporations for america's ills, at the same time they spend spend spend. yeah, they played their cards wrong on the tax cut thing, concentrating on socializing our medical care and stupidly trusting the new taxes would become automatic. but to finance all their SPENDING they need help with the debt ceiling.
they can still whine, but no plan, no responsibility, just bad government. thank you democraps
@cloudshe Your entire argument was wrong and yet you still find a way to blame democrats. Thats called "illogical bias." Rule of capitalism: Spend money to make money. Getting out of a recession is costly. The exact same thing happened in France under Louis XIV (multiple wars, rough eco). He didnt tax the rich and ran the economy into the ground. They had a plan. Obama had been planning this move since before he was president. The GOP acted like children to get their way. Very disappointing
@UncontestedTruth nothing new here. i don't think the GOP has behaved that well either. but the complaint about the spending is REAL. did the stimulus work? well, it CERTAINLY didn't keep unemployment below 8% as obama claimed it would. it was A LOT of money but it did not FOCUS on job creation, so how much chance did it have to begin with? and you think the GOP is the only party that acts like children? c'mon
@cloudshe You complained "if only the democrats let the tax cuts expire" which is exactly what they wanted to do. And youre right. Nothing new here. You just want to blame democrats for ANYTHING even if its not their fault. They tried to change the taxes but were blocked by bullshit (excuse the language). And you STILL dont acknowledge the facts. You STILL blame them. Then you run to a new talking point when youve been beaten not accepting your hypothesis was wrong. BTW Stimulus=3mil jobs
@UncontestedTruth i'm only blaming them because they are in charge now and they are severely misguided. our economy needed fixing and they just Created more government. they are the party of big government & handouts. how does That work when what we need is jobs? why have they done NOTHING to make us more competitive? what have they done to fix entitlements, the deficit? all they can do is bitch about the rich, if the rich paid ALL their income to them it would not cover the deficit DUMB
@cloudshe Taxation will help reduce the deficit over time. There is no over-the-night fix. Again the stimulus help create 3 million jobs. Cpitalism is naturally competitve. And dems dont have 60 senators to get anything done and they dont have house majority at all. The GOP denies almost everything they try to enact. They keep saying no so nothing gets done and we make no progress until they get their way. Now thats DUMB. And its the GOPs fault that they still "bitch about the rich."
@UncontestedTruth AND Spending will INCREASE the deficit over time. if you compare the 2008 to the 2010 budget, what contributed more to the deficit, loss of taxes or increases in spending? if you let the democrats blame the GOP for restrictions on tax revenue, you must reverse the blame for the Spending. and it probably will always be that way no matter how many taxes or how many spending cuts. why can't they get Together on Anything???
@UncontestedTruth and thank GOD the democraps never got their 60 votes, we would suddenly be back to pre-Gingrich welfare giveaways, MILLIONS of new, poor, needy Hispanic voters, federalization of our health care system, and FINANCIAL DISASTER for ALL Privately Employed Citizens
@cloudshe Hope you know Obama wants to get rid of illegal immigrants. They wanted 1 nationalized health care which was passed in a few states before and worked. They havent enacted/introduced any welfare legislature that didnt make the system more effiecient. You can stop fearmongering now. Its a sun shiny day outside. Obviously the 2008 budget didnt work if the economy was run into the ground that year and the better half of 3yrs later. 08 budget=3tril. 10=3.6tril. Not too bad with a recession
@UncontestedTruth What? get rid of illegals by making them Voters? is that what you're saying? nice spin.
your fearmongering about a takeover of obama and his commies IS scaring the heck out of me. gee, they ONLY increased the budget by 17% in two years, and they ONLY want a 60% increase to 5.7 tril in by 2021, i wonder what they would REALLY do if they only had to answer to a voter majority of non-taxpayers
@cloudshe Are you blind? Obama has deported more illegal aliens than Bush. He thinks they should go through the system. So that talking point of yours is gone. Who EVER said anything about the 2021 budget? No one. Of course the current budget is going to be higher. We are trying to get out of a recession. 2004-06 Bush hopped the budget by almost the same percent. Name ONE communistic policy Obama has enacted or has tried to enact in his presidency. Hint: there arent any.
@UncontestedTruth then WHY did Holder sue arizona? are You blind? you throw numbers out there but decide to disregard Obama's proposed budget through 2021? go ahead, pick & chose whatever fits your argument
hint: the gov't holding a business interest in GM, There's your ONE, there just MIGHT be a few others
@cloudshe The Arizona bill allows for racial discrimination which is, i dont know, illegal. Of course theres an issue there but that doesnt effect Obamas deportation numbers at all so my point still holds. The actual budget for 2021 is not established. Obamas budgetary plan gives a guidline. And this is capitalism. Government interest does not mean communism in any way shape or form. The government doesnt control the economy or distribution of wealth and property. So the communism crap can stop
@UncontestedTruth oh you want More? how about government takeover of the medical profession? what to pay doctors & what treatments to authorize? and don't stop There, tell me there was NO talk of establishing limits on executive pay, where was That heading? i only hope that obama's on-the-job training has taught him Something about capitalism, he got off to a rotten start. your other tomato tomahto stuff is unconvincing, actions are louder than words, not much has changed fm Bush policies
@cloudshe The gov didnt takeover medicine. They arent saying what a doctor can or can not authorize outside of their existing structure. They created a new branch just like Medicare and Tricare. Its like saying a new bank popped up so Bank of America is going to need another bailout. Im pretty sure options=competition. And there is a cap on exec pay. Its $500000. So what are you talking about again?
@UncontestedTruth obviously, like pelosi & her congress, you haven't read the bill. "created a new branch", "cap on exec pay", sounds like commie talk to me
"the American people will never knowingly stage a revolution to bring about socialism. so we should promote the idea by increasing govt. control of business & having socialists get govt jobs" - a famous commie 1927
@cloudshe Some executives literally doubled their pay in 2009 when the economy was suffering is weird considering there was decrease in everything and the workers received no wage raise. Some took the bailout money and gave themselves bonuses. Irresponisble. Greed is what got us in this mess. And execs can get more but only through stocks. How many branches of banks are there? Branches bring competition which is key in capitalism. Dont use "commie" when you cant properly comprehend what it means
@UncontestedTruth gee, i suppose you are right as usual. Real Commies would just kill their opposition and take over every aspect of the economy, making damn sure the Government employees got their shares of production First. so the main difference with the democrats appears to be "no executions, yet"
since you are far superior in 'comprehension' you can understand my feeble construct i'm sure
@cloudshe Never said I was superior. Just saying you are wrong. Based on your logic it is equally deducible that the main difference with the republicans appears to be "no executions, yet" Seriously. Come on. Such stark differences between our parties and communists can not be surmised by using the word "yet." That is just irresponsible inference. Communists are communists. Republicans are republicans. Democrats are democrats. These terms are not interchangeable, are not equal.
@UncontestedTruth What? the democrats don't want to take over the economy? the democrats don't want to make sure gov't workers and unions get Firstsies in the goodies line? well, maybe not All democrats, but BHO's group appears to have that bend.
and those greedy executives? the source of everything Bad? is not Greed of Power and Greed of High Wages and Benefits and Greed of expensive support for non-producers behind a lot of democrat policy? Idea: Fix The Economy, not the Blame
@cloudshe How do BHOs people plan on taking over the economy? Why is his term almost up but he still hasnt done it? Democrats want a minimum wage. $6.25 isnt "high wages". You mean unemployment benefits? Real greedy giving people who dont have work a way to feed their families. Did the democrats get us in a recession? Corporate greed (executives, not all) did when they took advantage of the system for a quick extra dollar. They are trying to fix it. Reps keep acting childish. Makes things harder
@UncontestedTruth Childish? how childish was it for the democrats to push sub-prime loans? pretty dumb economics as it turned out. and democrat control of the Financial Services Committee? "fannie & freddie are Fine" turned out to be so much Get Me Mo Votes frank/dodd/schumer BS. and WHY is lower manhattan (the greedy guys) so supportive of democrat lawmakers? minimum wage??? what about public employees who have been gifted 30% MORE pay/benies than private counterparts & ran states dry?
@UncontestedTruth your fantasy that democrats did NOT "get us in a recession" is hard to prove. when the Democrats pushed subprime loans, what oversight did they Create to make sure the coming housing collapse they kept denying would Not be catastrophic? and how "childish" is it for responsible legislators to stop BHO from Spending our grandkids' future (hard to push his Socialist agenda without the Cash, ain't it)?
@cloudshe Did democrats pass legislation to help with subprime loans? Yes in 1977 (CRA). But that was for RESPONSIBLE lending. The private sector (not subjugated by CRA) made over 50% of subprime loans which led to collapse. If I remember correctly (call me Mr elephant) Democrats were the first to acknowledge the bad economic situation while reps denied. Look it up. What socialist agenda do you speak of? "stop" BHO? Congress approved Obamas budget. Stop must mean go. Whos in a fantasy again?
@UncontestedTruth bulls**t. are you unfamiliar with what underwriters do? the GOP was pushing "homes for everyone"? the GOP was standing behind Fannie & Freddie who were backing the loans?? and what was the financial services committee doing??? Liberalism Gone Wrong wrecked our housing industry, helping inflate the bubble and then Bursting It with no-chance bad loans
the budget? i didn't say BHO was Stupid. if America had been ready for Socialism the dems would have had a better election
@cloudshe Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac gave bad loans under HUD policies (the head of HUD, A Jackson, was appointed by GWB). Did dems want homes for everyone? yes but that is not relevant within a Rep construct. Throw the "Its all the Dems fault" scenario out the door. It is more proper to blame the companies in question. If you would like to pass the blame, the next in line would be HUD. The problem was deregulation which was a driving policy of the Rep party. Not giving blame. Just stating facts
@UncontestedTruth never said it was all the dems fault, just tired of hearing how this was all caused by greedy capitalists and their GOP buddies. why deregulation? lenders were being forced to take on bad loans, and consequently they were trying to protect themselves against the losses they KNEW were coming. imo the liberals were expecting companies to suck up the loses without complaining. that they were able to pass along toxic assets was an unintended consequence of stupid govt policy
he doesn't even understand the tax "code". When we had higher rates, everybody stopped earning and put money into rental property, land, and other tax deductible investments to avoid taxes. That's what Buffet does.. all his billions are sheltered in trusts that only his "family" and chosen friends can access and the rest of the "charity" funnels money to the people in charge to make sure he can hide his billions. f'ing hypocrites.
If you vote Republican, you better get ready for your Medicare, and Social Security to be cut. If your 18-26 and on your parents insurance, get ready for that to end if the Republicans win, because they said they will abolish it. Get ready for the GOP to give more tax breaks to the rich, and cut out your unions collective bargaining rights, and of course get ready for all the budget cuts to fall on the middle class backs. I'd rather vote Obama than see any Republican do all those things to us.
Wait a minute -- @1:38 "...the rich have all the money, and they use it to speculate- which doesn't help the economy." I thought when I heard that comment that it has to be All Time Top 10 Dumbest Statements Ever Made By An Adult. Then I listened to the rest of it. Oh, Cenk, it's truly tragic that some fools will hear you and accept what you say without engaging their sheep brains. This is one lie following another. Pathetic, deceptive spin.
The notion of job creation through tax cuts for bank-robbing billionaire crooks is the biggest lie in history next to WMDs in Iraq. What jobs? Economic growth is just barely budging. They ruined the economy and shipped all of our good jobs overseas and got rewarded. And we're left with Wal*Mart and McDonalds! Those are the jobs being created! We don't create much of anything in the US except for trouble for the rest of the world. That's why we're a laughing stock when we're not being reviled.
Bush Tax Cuts: President George W. Bush’s 2003 tax cuts generated a massive increase in federal tax revenue and were followed by 52 consecutive months of economic growth. From 2004 to 2007, federal tax revenue increased by $780 billion, the largest four-year increase in American history. Total federal revenue from 2003 to 2007:
@snikle8b how much of that money went to the poor and middle class? probably not much. even if cuts really worked, this whole debate is one of morality.
why would rich ppl spend a tax break when they dont need to spend it?
why should such a obscene income disparity exist im a country with some of the lowest standards in of all developed nations?
surely it couldnt hurt taht 2% that owns half a nation wealth to be more charitable?
@snikle8b Was that sustainable growth? There was also a huge economic boom under Coolidge, accompanied by a temporary surge in tax revenue. Harding and Coolidge also had a hands-off approach to business regulation similar to the Bush administration's. Where's the right balance? I don't think Bush or Coolidge found it. I won't pretend to have all the answers, but it's hard to look at some of the parallels and not see a repeating pattern.
@TripperLV You present such well-framed, thoroughly substantiated arguments. Very stimulating stuff. I think you should enter your work in an essay contest.
@ADSR4Ever - Exactly my point, stating opinion as fact. Your post was just complete bullshit. It's amazing what you stupid liberals will say to get another hand out. Try getting off your lazy ass you piece of shit and do some work. Nobody owes you a thing asshole!
@TripperLV Foul-mouthed abuse doesn't make much of a case for your thought process. You didn't challenge a single thing I said with anything other than laptop savagery. To answer two of your squirts: I have been FT employed, uninterrupted, for 15 years. With commute, my work week is 60+ hours. I won't say what I do, or where for fear of being gunned down by someone like you, but I'm in the 28% tax bracket. I own rental property, and know the difference between passive and wage income tax rates.
@ADSR4Ever - 28% tax bracket! I don't believe you, but if it is true than you are a typical, liberal, hypocrite, piece of shit. You're suppose to be giving 90% to the government. You can pay more! You can donate to the government! Now write a check and pay the money you piece of shit. Until you do, shut the hell the up about taxes! Hypocrite! Pay up now!
@ADSR4Ever - My last post sure as hell shut you up! Did you send the check yet you racist piece of shit? You were told you to write the check so it better be in the mail! You've advocated for higher taxes now write the check! You have to no right to protest and if you don't write that check then you'll be thrown in jail for being racist pig. How do you like leftist statism so far asshole? It's funny how Liberals are so willing to commit someone else to what they is right!
@TripperLV Shut me up? No. I'm busy doing that job you don't think I have and the time I can devote to the rants of a psychotic troll is limited. So it's "racist" now? And "[I] should give 90% to the government?" That's just bizarre, and unrelated to anything in my posts. I think the top marginal rate should be put back where it was in the 2002 - 38.6%. In the unlikely event that I achieve that bracket, I'll pay up and not whine about it. As for the check, it's withheld from my salary.
@ADSR4Evr - Yes, according to Liberals, if are unwilling to pay higher rates of taxes it's because you are a racist and don't want to help the poor (who are mostly minorities). That's YOUR leftist logic! Now the write check or you're a hypocrite. Also, start reading books on quantitative economic analysis, analytical reasoning and debate. Since you haven't figured it out, all I was doing was mocking Liberals. I used actual quotes from previous debates. Thanks for confirming my comments. Owned!
@ADSR4Ever - LMAO! I posted your comments on a Liberal web site and they confirmed my comments. Hahahaha ,,,, they wasted NO time in throwing you under the bus! Your lefty friends stated that "your are a racist", and that you should "be providing free housing". They also said that you "should be paying more in taxes greedy asshole"! They also called you a Palin supporter and that you "take up the ass from Beck". I just wanted you to know! You have to be the dumbest asshole on YouTube! LMAO!
@TripperLV I DARE you to prove me wrong - there's a first time for everything - but I am absolutely certain that you will *need* to have the last (4-letter) word. Slime away. For my part, the conversation is over. I do have discipline, and I swear to you that I will not read or respond to any more of your disgusting communications. I don't shy away from a debate with a decent, rational person. You are neither, and that is a fact. P.S. You're really cute when you're angry.
@ADSR4Ever - "Correlation does not equal causation," dumb ass! The idiot in the video doesn't establish "causation" you retard. To establish causation in that manner you would need to control for all variables, but he doesn't! Did you ever hear of a little skirmish called WORLD WAR II? That's the reason why the US economy grew so strongly because Europe was fucking leveled asshole and they needed the US to supply goods and services. Now go read an econ book and stop peddling your b.s.!
@TripperLV - I have a master's degree from UCLA and am a CPA. I've actually studied economics at both the undergraduate and graduate level. I've taken quantative economic analysis and economic regression modeling is based on probability values and does not have "100% reliability," as you so erroneously and dishonestly stated in your original post. Your lack of education is obvious! I always get a good laugh from the arrogance of the typical of pseudo-intellectual Liberal!
@TripperLV Don't talk down to people who don't have your level of "education." It is the scholars who are so pretentious about their knowledge that actually have no real business experience. You can be taught from endless books, but you can never waive their potential of being biased. Only through real business experience can one understand that lower taxes across the spectrum of classes can you experience prosperity. Large government programs only take from the hard working and reward the lazy.
@Rapidfire143 - You and I are in agreement! I was just throwing the education thing at him because he is a Liberal. That really drives them crazy because they are trained to believe Conservatives are not educated. You’re right, economic modeling is limited to the assumptions made, but most of them will never understand the details.
@Rapidfire143 lol how are poor people who can't afford education lazy? and how is paris hilton (or any other 2nd generation rich person) hard working?
@liberalmike1994 education is already free... but healthcare and other benefits available for people physically able to work usually in their prime, but choose to use benefit programs is what I mean by lazy people. And there are a lot of those people. So first we must cut taxes extremely low and allow for true capitalism once again, then we must limit these benefits to only people who are physically disadvantaged.. but those able to work, we should force self responsibility on them
@TripperLV As for your illuminating comments... You do what most people do who lack the discipline to reason for themselves. When confronted with an opposing point of view, you lash out, curse, repeat tired slogans and hurl epithets. You don't know why you think what you think because you have not earned your opinions - they were given to you by Rush, Hannity, Beck, et al. - thus, your only recourse is a juvenile tantrum, or violence.
@ADSR4Ever - LMAO! I just love it when you stupid Liberals lecture on civil discourse! The left is so hateful, from the protests in WI to the trashing of Palin's teenage children. I can't even respond to your comment since it is so stupid and hypocritical. You're such an idiot!
@TripperLV Look back at the tax codes that were in place when the truly magnificent achievements of this country were realized: the creation of a vast middle class; the power grid; the interstate highway system; defeating Hitler; Trinity; going from NO space program to the SATURN V and human beings walking on the moon in ten years. Such monumental leaps will never happen again in the America you want, with the prevailing mindset "I got mine, and the rest of the world can go to hell".
@ADSR4Ever - LOL! Straw Man argument! I never advocated for no taxes or no government. Also, can't claim there would not have been a space program. You're not very good at debate, dummy!
@TripperLV The bottom line is we either step up collectively and pay for what our country needs, in proportion to our ability to do so, or we don't. You *patriots* think a yellow bumper sticker supports your troops. I know that it's money that buys their body armor, and it comes from us. The money required to rebuild and upgrade a 60-year old infrastructure is not going to be squeezed out of retail clerks. That kind of money will come from the people with the money, or it won't happen.
@TripperLV The argument that I should give 90% of my income to the government because I think the top marginal bracket should be three points higher is specious. One person spitting in the ocean to raise the tide is a Quixotic gesture. It's stupid, and all of you who use that argument know it.
@TripperLV It's a corrupt tax code that (one example) allows a millionaire hedge fund manager to categorize his annual income as "profit share" and be taxed at a lower rate than the average wage earner. As for "liberals committing others to what they [think] is right", why don't any of you who were complicit in concocting the Iraq War that's blown a $trillion hole in our treasury step up and "write that check"? Doesn't work that way, does it? I opposed that travesty, but I pay for it anyway.
@ADSR4Ever - Thank you, you just made my point. Too much money given to the government leads to bad decisions. I didn't advocate for the Iraq War! Now write the check asshole! You suck at debate!
Republicans would rather see American children die of starvation and disease by the thousands than see a Democrat in the White House. And these assholes have the gall to call themselves patriots and Christians.
Anybody with an iota of sense knows that cutting taxes actually INCREASES revenue. The data is undeniable. Cutting taxes creates jobs, and with more jobs comes more revenue. That's basic Economics 101. Democrats take advatage of the ignorant when they say that tax cuts for the "rich" - who in fact are NOT rich by the way - increase the deficit. That is just a bald faced lie.
I think the government should tax everyone equally and then subsidise the middle and lower classes. because lets face it the rich can survive all by them selves, but offering a helping hand to those who need it would be more effective. just my thought
Democrats finally found a way to argue against tax cuts beginning in the 2000 Presidential election, witness Al Gore's attacks on Bush supporting tax cuts for the richest 1% of Americans. And although their message didn't resonate with the voters until a few election cycles later, the Democrats found their rhetorical schtick. They and not us returned this country's political dynamic to class warfare.
@spyked1 "...my turkish friend? cenk is american no???" No. This young turd was born in Istanbul, March 21, 1970. Raised in a Turkish-Sunni Muslim family. Claims to be agnostic now-- how convenient.
The average nominal corporate tax rate in the European Union is around 25 percent (flat). The Scandinavians and the Dutch have the lowest rates in Western Europe. Once Japan cuts it by 5 points (announced a few weeks ago; even if their debt climbs to 200 percent) the US corporate tax rate will be the world's highest.
There are a # of reasons why increasing the taxes on the super-rich boosts the economy.
When Clinton increased taxes on the super-rich to get down the deficit & the DOW started going up I heard a financial analyst say "Wall Street likes balanced budgets".
A friend of mine has recently been working with some young Republican staffers in Washington on a big ‘tax freedom’ project.
The idea is that all those earning over $250k should be able to pay some or all of their tax liabilities to a charitable organisation of their choice, rather than the government. This is all about real economic freedom & will really help to get big govt. off our backs for good!
Hopefully it will be included on the Palin ticket in a couple of years!
@SuperTruth77 I don't understand how that gets gov't "off our backs". You pay the same amount in taxes but it just doesn't go to the gov't. Who does it go to? Who performs the oversight for the money that goes to these "charitable" organizations? This sounds like a half baked idea. Hopefully it will be included on the Palin ticket in a couple of years! I would look forward to Palin, with her keen intellect, tryiing to explain to all of us how this system would work. Hahaha.
There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know
How does increasing the take home pay of some corporate ceo by lowering his income tax cause the corporation he works for to hire more employees?
Spending on Infrastructure jobs creates jobs. padding the pockets of the elite class doesn't. But republicans wouldn't give up tax cuts for the rich to decrease the debt. NO surprise Regan and Bush exploded the debt to do the same.
@MaudsPas What about deep cuts in military spending to balance the budget? What about a more conservative and sound monetary policy? Saying that tax cuts for "rich" don't work, because of what happened in late 1920s and 2000s, is a fallacy. Before 1913 there was no federal income tax, and America experienced the quickest industrial growth in history. Anyway, in Switzerland the maximum marginal tax rate at the federal level is 11.5 percent, and the country works wonderfully.
@xaviqaz I am all for deep cuts in the military as are most progressives and a few conservatives.
In 1913 America was a shit hole European aristocracy. The rich were very rich and everyone else was living on the brink of poverty(similar to today). As soon as we instituted more progressive tax rates, after great depression, the middle class exploded. Then we started with the highly regressive tax cuts(Regan) and the middle class shrunk again.
We are the only industrialize nation on earth dumb enough to try that kind of economic policy that has failed time and time again.

Grow up.

@falcondriver100 Reagan did cut taxes initially, then proceeded to raise then 11 times, Reagan signed the largest corporate tax increase in history! The greatest achievement of Reagan's administration may be the roughly $155 billion budget deficit he is left to his successor, which is nearly twice the deficit he inherited from Carter.
megarational 4 months ago
@falcondriver100 You've been listening to too much GOP-TV (Fox). The fact is:
Reagan raised the gase tax by 5c/gal & instituted a payroll-tax hike to fund Medicare & SS That came on the heels of his 1982 tax increase, again the largest in U.S. history at the time, & repeatedly increased taxes & eliminated loopholes worth $50 billion. He supported the Tax Reform Act hit bus with a record-breaking $420 billion in new fees. So when faced with rising unemployment he raised taxes

You're like an insect exposed to the light, you scurry to find another rock to hide under.
megarational 4 months ago
@megarational I didn't see them douchebag & you're a full of shit moron. Reagan gave us the largest tax cuts in history, then yes, he did raise them at very small increments, tweaking the economy. All 11 tweaks raised them to nowhere close to where taxes had been before the cuts, so he IN FACT DID CUT TAXES! He lowered the highest taxes from 72% to 38%! All your points are just word games. Everyone knows Reagans legacy was low taxes. Nice try though!!

By taking HALF of everything the bottom 50% population of USA, you will get 700 billion dollars.
You can have the same by increasing the tax of the 2% richest people.
MenwithHill 6 months ago 2
@MenwithHill The wealthiest 10% in USA pay the largest share of any OECD country: a 45% of all taxes. In Sweden they pay 27%, in France 28%, Germany 31%, Denmark 26%... Only in Italy and USA contribute above 40%. Because in those european countries, taxes on consumption (a regressive kind) and labor income are MUCH higher. If you want the American tax code to look like those countries, let´s create a national sales tax of 20 or 25%. In Denmark they pay a 25% VAT for everything.
xaviqaz 5 months ago

Welsh77 8 months ago
on the government to run our economy, instead of focusing it primarily in free market enterprise. cenk makes stupid arguments that make no sense, like that cutting taxes contributed to the depression. that's such a dumb argument, there were no income taxes at all before 1913 and we never had a depression. his argument about the bush tax cuts contributing to the housing bubble is also unfounded and rejected by an economist with any common sense. cenk is a raging liberal who thinks
Welsh77 8 months ago
@Welsh77 Did you just say we have never had a depression???
inlines8master 6 months ago

Welsh77 8 months ago
@plynth2 half the people this country pay no income taxes, which is ridiculous. if you dont think there are a huge number of people on the take, you're mistaken. by the way almost all the welfare reform under clinton was undone under the bush administration in the name of compassion. obama just extended unemployment benefits from 36 weeks to 3 years, i know people that aren't looking for job because they can sit on unemployment.
Welsh77 8 months ago
Corporate tax has to be high, for its both moral and economic duties. Tax cuts for the poor and small busieness are also great. Having a tax system that is actually progressive is more sustainable and as pretty much all resreach (Wilkinson and Pickett et al) shows inequality causes huge societal problems too.

blew up housing prices and caused the housing crisis in 2008. the tax cuts have NOTHING to do with the housing crisis, or the recession that began in the fourth quarter of 2007. this guy is a liberal who simply can't stand the rich making money. he talks of "speculation" like it causes all our problems. what a MORON, MORE THAN HALF OF THE COUNTRY OWNS STOCK, its not just the rich playing the market, and this "speculation" doesn't cause recessions. we've had recessions every 10-15 years going
Welsh77 8 months ago
he's making ridiculous conclusions from a very limited window of data. the great depression didn't begin until 1930 when the smoot hawley tarriff was passed, unemployment remained low from the time the recessoin began in august of 1929 (that's right, the recession began months before the crash) until the spring of 1930. government policies plummeted the economy into a downfall, and bad monetary policy was the biggest contributor. in the same way, government encouragement of home ownership

if low taxes in the 20s caused the depression why didn't we have a depression 15 years earlier when there were no taxes at all? this guy's an idiot and unqualified to be talking on this subject. the housing crisis was a result of policies going back to the formation of fannie mae in 1938. 45-70 as the golden years? are you kidding? average unemployment wasn't any lower then than it was during the 90s or from 03-07. he also leaves out the disastrous 70s which the great society contriubuted to

Dont go blaming Obama for any issues that he picked up from Bushes Presidency.
xhackmasterx 8 months ago
@xhackmasterx okay, but when are you going to hold obama responsible for things he said he would do but failed at? how many BILLIONS did he waste on 'shovel ready' jobs that weren't? when he said the economy was so important to him that that was his highest priority, why did he concentrate on social issues instead? how has (or will) obamacare help the economy? where did all the stimulus money go (hint, only 1/3 went to 'help' the private sector). what about that tax the rich lie? obama=BS
cloudshe 8 months ago
@cloudshe Obama is facing structural problems that have developed over more than 2 decades, & is hampered by an obstructionist GOP.
As for "concentrating on social issues", he was dealing with the prob's with the h.c. insur. system at the SAME TIME as dealing w/ economic problems. (eg: Tarp, stimulus, credit card reforms, financial reforms, saving $63 B per yr. by eliminating the banks as unnecessary middlemen in student loans, successful bailouts of the domestic auto industry.)
megarational 8 months ago
@megarational somehow the "obstructionist gop" was unable to prevent obamacare, billions to keep states' union employees from having to take pay cuts, billions thrown away on dubious Green initiatives, investors getting screwed to protect union pensions etc etc. sure he bragged that he could "multitask" that is wasn't that hard, he was exceptionally capable. think back, how did THAT work out?

of course there's always 3) BHO and his Congress ARE GROSSLY INCOMPETENT
cloudshe 10 months ago
@cloudshe Who blamed the rich? I dont quite remember that happening seeing as how the majority of the Democrats in Congress (and Obama) are rich which (rhyme not intended) means they would be blaming themselves. And legislation to increase taxes on the rich was brought up in March (which also means they raise taxes on themselves). I think you may be a little to eager to bash the left. Take a step back, collect the facts, THEN form your opinion.
UncontestedTruth 10 months ago
@UncontestedTruth what are you saying? that the democrats can complain about the rich getting tax breaks, but they really are just trying to keep from taxing Themselves?
Facts? BHO and friends only had to deny the legislation, the tax increases would have become automatic. is That what you are confused about? the common thread is the the lie that More Taxes on the Rich solves all our problems. how is that NOT blaming the rich?
cloudshe 10 months ago
@cloudshe Wow. They are blaming Bush for creating the tax cuts. How could they blame the rich (themselves) if they paid their taxes? Your first 2 questions make more sense than anything else you said which is just a repeation of what I said. But seeing as how they have brought up legislation, problem is solved. And the Bush tax cuts last for about 2 more years. So denying the tax cuts will leave a 2 year hole. And taxing the rich will help America but not solve all problems
UncontestedTruth 10 months ago
@UncontestedTruth it might be hard to argue that, at the time, the W tax cuts were effective in promoting growth (and extra revenue), wasn't it a Record of 18 quarters of straight growth?
but this crap about blaming Bush or the Rich is pure baloney. the democrats wanted power, they got it, NOW they have no standing to complain that the Rich are not taxed enough when they could have straightened that out themselves. They constantly complain about income disparities but do NOTHING
cloudshe 10 months ago
@cloudshe If you payed attention to the 2010 congressional elections you would know that they DONT have power. The first idea was to let the tax cuts die by themselves. But as I said thats a 2 year hole. Since the republicans now have majority and filibustered (Bernie Sanders) for a while it seems that the push for new taxation of the rich will be shot down the the republican party. They have done something but cant accomplish anything because there is no bipartisan support from republicans
UncontestedTruth 10 months ago
@UncontestedTruth well, if the democrats had the choice between Obamacare and taxing the rich, obviously they picked what they thought was more important
they would rather Bitch about the rich than get their way and tax them to bejesus, because they KNOW it won't fix anything. class envy may get them some cheap votes, but it's the SPENDING that's screwing up the country
cloudshe 10 months ago
@cloudshe As I said. The plan was to let the Bush era tax cuts expire. But with the new Republican majority in Congress, there is a threat that it will be renewed. The democrats assumed the problem would fix itself which it would have if the republicans didnt want to continue the tax cuts to give themselves tax cuts. So they didnt "pick what was more important." They just didnt think it would be an issue.
UncontestedTruth 10 months ago
@UncontestedTruth there is no "new gop majority", it's only in the house, obama owns the senate and the presidency. i stand by my analysis, 'tax the rich" is democrat party demagoguery, reality is they are hypocrites on the issue, there was no legitimate reason not to let the cuts expire and give up their talking point imo
cloudshe 10 months ago
@cloudshe Democrats tried to let the tax cuts expire last year but republicans filibustered the renewal bill until Obama was forced to extend all of them for 2 yrs or all tax cuts would have been gone and Obama would have broken a key promise of everyone below $250000 gets cuts. So in actuallity its the GOPs fault. No offense but just saying facts are facts. Had they not filibustered like they were school children the talking point would be gone. 1 congressmen held the floor for 8hrs straight
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth i'm just saying they LOVE being able to blame the rich and the corporations for america's ills, at the same time they spend spend spend. yeah, they played their cards wrong on the tax cut thing, concentrating on socializing our medical care and stupidly trusting the new taxes would become automatic. but to finance all their SPENDING they need help with the debt ceiling.
they can still whine, but no plan, no responsibility, just bad government. thank you democraps
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Your entire argument was wrong and yet you still find a way to blame democrats. Thats called "illogical bias." Rule of capitalism: Spend money to make money. Getting out of a recession is costly. The exact same thing happened in France under Louis XIV (multiple wars, rough eco). He didnt tax the rich and ran the economy into the ground. They had a plan. Obama had been planning this move since before he was president. The GOP acted like children to get their way. Very disappointing
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth nothing new here. i don't think the GOP has behaved that well either. but the complaint about the spending is REAL. did the stimulus work? well, it CERTAINLY didn't keep unemployment below 8% as obama claimed it would. it was A LOT of money but it did not FOCUS on job creation, so how much chance did it have to begin with? and you think the GOP is the only party that acts like children? c'mon
Paychecks, Not Food Stamps
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe You complained "if only the democrats let the tax cuts expire" which is exactly what they wanted to do. And youre right. Nothing new here. You just want to blame democrats for ANYTHING even if its not their fault. They tried to change the taxes but were blocked by bullshit (excuse the language). And you STILL dont acknowledge the facts. You STILL blame them. Then you run to a new talking point when youve been beaten not accepting your hypothesis was wrong. BTW Stimulus=3mil jobs
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth i'm only blaming them because they are in charge now and they are severely misguided. our economy needed fixing and they just Created more government. they are the party of big government & handouts. how does That work when what we need is jobs? why have they done NOTHING to make us more competitive? what have they done to fix entitlements, the deficit? all they can do is bitch about the rich, if the rich paid ALL their income to them it would not cover the deficit DUMB
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe OBTW stimulus 2 = 863 billion, divided by 3 million jobs = $280,000 per job, what a bargain to the taxpayers
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Taxation will help reduce the deficit over time. There is no over-the-night fix. Again the stimulus help create 3 million jobs. Cpitalism is naturally competitve. And dems dont have 60 senators to get anything done and they dont have house majority at all. The GOP denies almost everything they try to enact. They keep saying no so nothing gets done and we make no progress until they get their way. Now thats DUMB. And its the GOPs fault that they still "bitch about the rich."
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth AND Spending will INCREASE the deficit over time. if you compare the 2008 to the 2010 budget, what contributed more to the deficit, loss of taxes or increases in spending? if you let the democrats blame the GOP for restrictions on tax revenue, you must reverse the blame for the Spending. and it probably will always be that way no matter how many taxes or how many spending cuts. why can't they get Together on Anything???
cloudshe 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth and thank GOD the democraps never got their 60 votes, we would suddenly be back to pre-Gingrich welfare giveaways, MILLIONS of new, poor, needy Hispanic voters, federalization of our health care system, and FINANCIAL DISASTER for ALL Privately Employed Citizens
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Hope you know Obama wants to get rid of illegal immigrants. They wanted 1 nationalized health care which was passed in a few states before and worked. They havent enacted/introduced any welfare legislature that didnt make the system more effiecient. You can stop fearmongering now. Its a sun shiny day outside. Obviously the 2008 budget didnt work if the economy was run into the ground that year and the better half of 3yrs later. 08 budget=3tril. 10=3.6tril. Not too bad with a recession
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth What? get rid of illegals by making them Voters? is that what you're saying? nice spin.
your fearmongering about a takeover of obama and his commies IS scaring the heck out of me. gee, they ONLY increased the budget by 17% in two years, and they ONLY want a 60% increase to 5.7 tril in by 2021, i wonder what they would REALLY do if they only had to answer to a voter majority of non-taxpayers
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Are you blind? Obama has deported more illegal aliens than Bush. He thinks they should go through the system. So that talking point of yours is gone. Who EVER said anything about the 2021 budget? No one. Of course the current budget is going to be higher. We are trying to get out of a recession. 2004-06 Bush hopped the budget by almost the same percent. Name ONE communistic policy Obama has enacted or has tried to enact in his presidency. Hint: there arent any.
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth then WHY did Holder sue arizona? are You blind? you throw numbers out there but decide to disregard Obama's proposed budget through 2021? go ahead, pick & chose whatever fits your argument
hint: the gov't holding a business interest in GM, There's your ONE, there just MIGHT be a few others
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe The Arizona bill allows for racial discrimination which is, i dont know, illegal. Of course theres an issue there but that doesnt effect Obamas deportation numbers at all so my point still holds. The actual budget for 2021 is not established. Obamas budgetary plan gives a guidline. And this is capitalism. Government interest does not mean communism in any way shape or form. The government doesnt control the economy or distribution of wealth and property. So the communism crap can stop
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth oh you want More? how about government takeover of the medical profession? what to pay doctors & what treatments to authorize? and don't stop There, tell me there was NO talk of establishing limits on executive pay, where was That heading? i only hope that obama's on-the-job training has taught him Something about capitalism, he got off to a rotten start. your other tomato tomahto stuff is unconvincing, actions are louder than words, not much has changed fm Bush policies
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe The gov didnt takeover medicine. They arent saying what a doctor can or can not authorize outside of their existing structure. They created a new branch just like Medicare and Tricare. Its like saying a new bank popped up so Bank of America is going to need another bailout. Im pretty sure options=competition. And there is a cap on exec pay. Its $500000. So what are you talking about again?
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth obviously, like pelosi & her congress, you haven't read the bill. "created a new branch", "cap on exec pay", sounds like commie talk to me
"the American people will never knowingly stage a revolution to bring about socialism. so we should promote the idea by increasing govt. control of business & having socialists get govt jobs" - a famous commie 1927
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Some executives literally doubled their pay in 2009 when the economy was suffering is weird considering there was decrease in everything and the workers received no wage raise. Some took the bailout money and gave themselves bonuses. Irresponisble. Greed is what got us in this mess. And execs can get more but only through stocks. How many branches of banks are there? Branches bring competition which is key in capitalism. Dont use "commie" when you cant properly comprehend what it means
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth gee, i suppose you are right as usual. Real Commies would just kill their opposition and take over every aspect of the economy, making damn sure the Government employees got their shares of production First. so the main difference with the democrats appears to be "no executions, yet"
since you are far superior in 'comprehension' you can understand my feeble construct i'm sure
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Never said I was superior. Just saying you are wrong. Based on your logic it is equally deducible that the main difference with the republicans appears to be "no executions, yet" Seriously. Come on. Such stark differences between our parties and communists can not be surmised by using the word "yet." That is just irresponsible inference. Communists are communists. Republicans are republicans. Democrats are democrats. These terms are not interchangeable, are not equal.
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth What? the democrats don't want to take over the economy? the democrats don't want to make sure gov't workers and unions get Firstsies in the goodies line? well, maybe not All democrats, but BHO's group appears to have that bend.
and those greedy executives? the source of everything Bad? is not Greed of Power and Greed of High Wages and Benefits and Greed of expensive support for non-producers behind a lot of democrat policy? Idea: Fix The Economy, not the Blame
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe How do BHOs people plan on taking over the economy? Why is his term almost up but he still hasnt done it? Democrats want a minimum wage. $6.25 isnt "high wages". You mean unemployment benefits? Real greedy giving people who dont have work a way to feed their families. Did the democrats get us in a recession? Corporate greed (executives, not all) did when they took advantage of the system for a quick extra dollar. They are trying to fix it. Reps keep acting childish. Makes things harder
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth Childish? how childish was it for the democrats to push sub-prime loans? pretty dumb economics as it turned out. and democrat control of the Financial Services Committee? "fannie & freddie are Fine" turned out to be so much Get Me Mo Votes frank/dodd/schumer BS. and WHY is lower manhattan (the greedy guys) so supportive of democrat lawmakers? minimum wage??? what about public employees who have been gifted 30% MORE pay/benies than private counterparts & ran states dry?
cloudshe 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth your fantasy that democrats did NOT "get us in a recession" is hard to prove. when the Democrats pushed subprime loans, what oversight did they Create to make sure the coming housing collapse they kept denying would Not be catastrophic? and how "childish" is it for responsible legislators to stop BHO from Spending our grandkids' future (hard to push his Socialist agenda without the Cash, ain't it)?
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Did democrats pass legislation to help with subprime loans? Yes in 1977 (CRA). But that was for RESPONSIBLE lending. The private sector (not subjugated by CRA) made over 50% of subprime loans which led to collapse. If I remember correctly (call me Mr elephant) Democrats were the first to acknowledge the bad economic situation while reps denied. Look it up. What socialist agenda do you speak of? "stop" BHO? Congress approved Obamas budget. Stop must mean go. Whos in a fantasy again?
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth bulls**t. are you unfamiliar with what underwriters do? the GOP was pushing "homes for everyone"? the GOP was standing behind Fannie & Freddie who were backing the loans?? and what was the financial services committee doing??? Liberalism Gone Wrong wrecked our housing industry, helping inflate the bubble and then Bursting It with no-chance bad loans
the budget? i didn't say BHO was Stupid. if America had been ready for Socialism the dems would have had a better election
cloudshe 9 months ago
@cloudshe Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac gave bad loans under HUD policies (the head of HUD, A Jackson, was appointed by GWB). Did dems want homes for everyone? yes but that is not relevant within a Rep construct. Throw the "Its all the Dems fault" scenario out the door. It is more proper to blame the companies in question. If you would like to pass the blame, the next in line would be HUD. The problem was deregulation which was a driving policy of the Rep party. Not giving blame. Just stating facts
UncontestedTruth 9 months ago
@UncontestedTruth never said it was all the dems fault, just tired of hearing how this was all caused by greedy capitalists and their GOP buddies. why deregulation? lenders were being forced to take on bad loans, and consequently they were trying to protect themselves against the losses they KNEW were coming. imo the liberals were expecting companies to suck up the loses without complaining. that they were able to pass along toxic assets was an unintended consequence of stupid govt policy

Umm...yes they do!
2003 -- $1.78 trillion
2004 -- $1.88 trillion
2005 -- $2.15 trillion
2006 -- $2.40 trillion
2007 -- $2.56 trillion
snikle8b 11 months ago
@snikle8b how much of that money went to the poor and middle class? probably not much. even if cuts really worked, this whole debate is one of morality.
why would rich ppl spend a tax break when they dont need to spend it?
why should such a obscene income disparity exist im a country with some of the lowest standards in of all developed nations?
surely it couldnt hurt taht 2% that owns half a nation wealth to be more charitable?
so whats the problem? avarice.
fuck the usa
nnndddnnnddd 10 months ago
@snikle8b Was that sustainable growth? There was also a huge economic boom under Coolidge, accompanied by a temporary surge in tax revenue. Harding and Coolidge also had a hands-off approach to business regulation similar to the Bush administration's. Where's the right balance? I don't think Bush or Coolidge found it. I won't pretend to have all the answers, but it's hard to look at some of the parallels and not see a repeating pattern.

@TripperLV Foul-mouthed abuse doesn't make much of a case for your thought process. You didn't challenge a single thing I said with anything other than laptop savagery. I won't say what I do, or where for fear of being gunned down by someone like you, but I'm in the 28% tax bracket. I own rental property, and know the difference between passive and wage income tax rates.
ADSR4Ever 1 year ago
@ADSR4Ever - 28% tax bracket! I don't believe you, but if it is true than you are a typical, liberal, hypocrite, piece of shit. You're suppose to be giving 90% to the government. You can pay more! You can donate to the government! Now write a check and pay the money you piece of shit. Until you do, shut the hell the up about taxes! Hypocrite! Pay up now!
TripperLV 1 year ago
@ADSR4Ever - My last post sure as hell shut you up! Did you send the check yet you racist piece of shit? You were told you to write the check so it better be in the mail! How do you like leftist statism so far asshole? It's funny how Liberals are so willing to commit someone else to what they is right!
TripperLV 1 year ago
@TripperLV Shut me up? No. I'm busy doing that job you don't think I have and the time I can devote to the rants of a psychotic troll is limited. So it's "racist" now? And "[I] should give 90% to the government?" That's just bizarre, and unrelated to anything in my posts. I think the top marginal rate should be put back where it was in the 2002 - 38.6%. In the unlikely event that I achieve that bracket, I'll pay up and not whine about it. As for the check, it's withheld from my salary.
ADSR4Ever 1 year ago
@ADSR4Evr - Yes, according to Liberals, if are unwilling to pay higher rates of taxes it's because you are a racist and don't want to help the poor (who are mostly minorities). That's YOUR leftist logic! Now the write check or you're a hypocrite. Also, start reading books on quantitative economic analysis, analytical reasoning and debate. Your lack of education is obvious! I always get a good laugh from the arrogance of the typical of pseudo-intellectual Liberal!
TripperLV 1 year ago
@TripperLV Don't talk down to people who don't have your level of "education." It is the scholars who are so pretentious about their knowledge that actually have no real business experience. You can be taught from endless books, but you can never waive their potential of being biased. Only through real business experience can one understand that lower taxes across the spectrum of classes can you experience prosperity. Large government programs only take from the hard working and reward the lazy.

@TripperLV As for your illuminating comments... You do what most people do who lack the discipline to reason for themselves. When confronted with an opposing point of view, you lash out, curse, repeat tired slogans and hurl epithets. Such monumental leaps will never happen again in the America you want, with the prevailing mindset "I got mine, and the rest of the world can go to hell".
