  • Fill the 3 gallon bucket all the way and pour it into the five gallon bucket, then repeat so you have 1 gallon in the 3 gallon bucket left. Empty the five gallon bucket and pour the 1 gallon from the 3 gallon bucket into the five gallon bucket. Then fill up the 3 gallon bucket once more and pour it into the 5 gallon bucket to make 4 gallons.

  • @alec3232: You can't do that as there are no markings on the bucket, you would only be estimating 4-Gallons.

  • Fill the 3-Gallon Bucket to the brim(3=3;5=0). Put that water into the 5-Gallon Bucket(3=0;5=3).Fill the 3-Gallon Bucket tot eh brim again(3=3;5=3). Pour the water in the 3-Gallon Bucket into the 5-Gallon Bucket until it is full(3=1;5=5). Empty the 5-Gallon Bucket, and put the rest of the water from the 3-Gallon Bucket into the 5-Gallon Bucket(3=0;5=1). Fill the 3-Gallon Bucket and put the water into the 5-Gallon Bucket(3=0;5=4).
