the tops weren't bad. however you missed quite a few better than alot of your lower rated ones. like Acrimony. Eternal Elysium. early Boris. High Rise. come on man get with it.
No Boris? I would've thought you'd have a song by the band "Boris", or the song "Boris" by the Melvins. I also can't find Gojira "Ocean Planet" in your list. You had Kyuss, but that Kyuss song was hardly their best. Demon Cleaner coulda fit better. Big Business was also nowhere to be found. Overall, I'm disappointed.
i agree...Gojira is hardly doom/sludge/stoner. i'd say they're more like death/thrash/groove, with some sludge riffs, but plenty of genres have sludgy riffs thrown into the mix. Gojira shouldn't be on this list.
fools, black flag were more than just punk, they were a crossover act that laid the foundation for the melvins first album, and consequently sludge metal.
what! big loader only at 34?! ok...the wizard at 12 yesss!! nice mix mate...i'd been wondering where sabbath was (prefer behind the wall of sleep though)...but I miss WARHORSE, and do somewhat agree with the eyehategod shouters (sisterfucker or southern discomfort perhaps)...but tastes differ I suppose..still, great selection of music you got there!
@kangasnoot What is acid bath? What are they singing about? I purchased their "when the kite string pops lp" brand new at me local record exchange store. Is that somthing that would be okay to open and listen to? It was only 15 bucks and I want to listen to it but not if it's worth money. \\m//
@SuperCommentDude2 Of course you should listen to it! It's not rare or anything. It's got elements of lots of metal genres in it including doom and sludge, but it can't really be classified as any one thing. It's a great album for sure.
@JTOwens89 okay cool. i love those guys. I can't stand band with people yelling about hate and satan sometimes but I don't know what acid bath is talking about. I'm into intrumental metal but all I coulf find was bongripper attomica death_breath cemetary and i know there's got to be more. Do you know any?
@SuperCommentDude2 Nah, not really. I don't listen to any purely instrumental bands. If you liked "When The Kite String Pops" and you don't have "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" I recommend that, it's just as good.
@JTOwens89 I have both on vinyl. They're pretty cool. All I do is listen to music. I'm a highschooler. I'm in my room it's 1 in the morning. I usualy stay up till 3
holy effin shit, you do a TWO PART video labelled doom / stoner / sludge, and the MAJORITY of the song cited ranges from hardcore punk (Black Flag) to NWOBHM (Wittchfinder General, Pentagram) to some idontknowwhichmelodicmetalstlye...
dude... there definitely ARE at least 40 bands of each, you could've done a fine setlist.
They're old-school hardcore, but after they toured with St. Vitus, they came up with the slow songs that are half of the "My War" album. Probably baffled many skinheads at the time.
@ace32295 the last time i checked they didn't put labels on their music. ...and henry himself has saisd that the b sides to my war were Sludgy Punk...
@ace32295 yeah, labels are such a great invention...a pity sludge, krust, grind, doom, death, stoner, and all the -core's didn't exist yet forty years ago...
I think that bands like eyehategod, down, and raging speedhorn are tolerable in their vocal style. unfortunately vocals really make or break doom/sludge metal for a lot of people. for example i would listen to greif but the vocals are too harsh for me
Not a bad list. I personally think though, that Reverend Bizarre should've had "Doomsower" instead of "In the Rectory", and that Electric Wizard should've had "Funeralopolis" instead of "Dopethrone". Also, while it was a good Top 40, I don't think "War Pigs" should've been number 1. There are a lot of songs that are much better than that one, including other Sabbath songs. Oh well.
If you're allowing enough leeway for some of these bands like COC and BLS (don't see any reason not to), then I think a few songs off of Soundgarden's first two albums would definitely qualify, which would then vocally put everything to shame here except for Ozzy and John Garcia. Everyone to their own taste said the old lady as she kissed the cow, but I'd have: 5) Fu Manchu - King of The Road 4) Boris - Electric 3) Soundgarden - Flower 2) Kyuss - Whitewater 1) Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Pretty good list, I would've put Trouble and Saint Vitus much higher, like in the top 5. Solstice being rated higher than Solitude Aeturnus is a bit of a travesty also. There was definitely some stuff on here I haven't heard that I'll have to check out though, which is the whole point of making a "top...." video. Nobody will ever completely agree with the order.
Why is everyone whining about eyehategod, they are the worst band in sludge. The reason why they aren't in here is because they have yet to release a good song. Duh, and anyone questioning BLS and COC are morons plain and simple.
