I don't know what it was about Tugboat, but he sure didn't go too far even with the ultra push they gave him by teaming him with Hogan and basically giving him the Hillbilly Jim treatment. HBJ was a much more memorable character in my opinion...
Doing this to Valentine was a crime. He was a non-gimmicked, solid performer, and even if he was reaching his twilight, this was no way to send him off.
I liked the idea of Rhythm & Blues, it's just hard to swallow that they transform a great serious heel like Valentine into a buffoon heel like Honky Tonk. I loved HTM's buffoonery, but that is something unique to him and something they shouldn't have put on Valentine. The guy was too great of a wrestler for this.
Valentine was so horrible when he tried to sing...Nothing worse than impersonating an Elvis impersonator LOL I don't blame Valentine though...I'm sure this was another "genius" moment of Vince just like the WBF and the XFL.
I will not lie. This to me is the nadir of Valentine's career. He was a consummate professional up to this point. I can't imagine what convinced him to take this route and let this awful gimmick take over his persona. They can say he was too stiff a personality, whatever. It's irrelevant. Give me the Dream Team era or before over this.
@Lasertrain ...well, valentine was past his prime by this point, and completely unmarketable in the cartoonish WWF. This was their attempt to get what little juice they could out of a dried up career.
i remember way back when i got to see tug boat and earthquake team together in youngstown, ohio. when your a kid and see giant men like that they are truly larger then life.
@fivebearrugs LOL, yeah, my girlfriend was asking the other day when we were watching during someone getting beat down, & they kept ringing the bell, why they were doing that? LOL, I said, I guess it's like a cry for help, LMAO
I liked Rhythm & Blues, I thought they could've been great heel tag champs, Hell, they made action figures of them to, but I could never find them, I wanted that Hammer Valentine with His Black Hair, & White Coat on, LOL, I have Honky though.
I actually found out not to long after posting this comment, that even though they had a pic of the Rhythm & Blues Tag Team Hasbro Characters in WWF Mag, as if they were coming out with them, they actually ended up not even making them at all, LOL, That sucks, no wonder.
I guess the next best thing is buying 2 Greg Valentine action figures, leave one as is, and paint the blond hair of the other one black!!! hehehehe LOL!
I think you're right...the Magazine did have a Toys R Us ad featuring the team. They eventually released a regular Hammer action figure, complete with shin guard.
@fivebearrugs Yeah, I don't think they did, I was big into them at that time, I never got the Nasty Boys or LOD, which were ones I always wanted. That series must've been tough to get a hold of, cuz I have a ton of them, but never saw any of those figures around. I'm going to make a vid for my WWF Hasbro Collection that I have, that I collected as a kid, I don't have all of them, but quit a few, it'll be like the vid I did for my 1990 Galoob set of WCW figures I did a vid for.
@fivebearrugs I hear ya, LOL, don't worry, i've been looking around on E-Bay, need a credit card asap, LOL, I started to try to collect the complete set of the Wrestlemania Heritage Series by Mattell available only at Wal-Mart, so far i've got Batista WM21, & Stone Cold WMX7 figures from the set, I passed on Edge, I saw five of him, so I passed till' next time & went w/ Batista now i'll probably never find another Edge, LOL, oh well, it's fun to try to collect the whole set.
@jamesrchoi Takes me back to the days when wrestling was fun.....and unpredictable! Even the build-up to some of the matches and the PPV's was exciting! U never knew what was gonna happen or when. Today, there's none of that. It's so watered-down.

The Honky Tonk man looked more like Elvis than Elvis did.

I keep rewinding the part where you can hear Hogan yelling at Hebner. It's too funny. "WHY DONCHOO WATCH WHATS GOIN ON! YOU KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN"

@FartScrap, I prefer the fast little "cheat a little bit" at 1:50, it sounds fast forwarded.

Tugboat was basically the Hilly Billy Jim of the 1990's, a fan of Hogans who became a wrestler

I found it amusing that if Tugboat HADN'T stopped Hogan from doing the legdrop, the match would've been over long ago :p

LOL, I always thought that it was the Timekeeper trying to keep order...like how a judge bangs his gavel in an unruly court.
