just to clear up any confusion about the song title, it was originally called 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam' (was supposed to be ironic) but they re-released it in 1992 under the title 'Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam' which is the title Nirvana took for their cover.
I like this version better, it's more "Poppy" sounding and the female vocal work really changes the feel of the song. Great band, now I'll have to look into them more.
"Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" performed by Nirvana and supposedly a cover by the Scottish band The Vaselines. Kurt got the idea to write the song for the christian song "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Right after the no-neck children sing the song Big Daddy asks for "The Blackeyed Peas" to be passed. This is why I named the group which I wrote songs for The Blackeyed Peas.
@ayden121710 dude shut the fuck up. You do realize the vasilenes, besides leadbelly was one of his biggest influences???? If Kurt was alive and kicking today and saw that comment he would kick your ass.
@MANOLO84GLOTON22 Okay solving this, The Vaselines' version was in fact called "Jesus Don't Want Me For a Sunbeam", it was adapted from an old christian song called "Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam" and changed to be ironic or something.

The name of the song is "Jesus don´t want me for a sunbeam", is an irony of a christian song.
