Clarinet. I was a non major but hung out in the music dept all the time. Ended up marrying the principle flutist. I played in the Wind Symphony and moonlighted from time to time in the orchestra.
This is a very difficult piece. For the piano is a very strong partiture, for the violoncello is difficult and for the clarinet is not easy, is difficult and play together is not easy too.
Do you guys play all of this??? Happy memories listening to you..I played this as an undergrad and recieved many hours of coaching!! The main advice i would give is to tidy up some of your rhythmic baton changes - some got a bit ragged. these things show up more in performance so need lots of working out in rehearsal. This is such a fab piece..the other movements are great - more people should play it - its great fun! - smile more
the clarinetist and cellist played the 1st movement at their own recital, and I have played the 1st movement separately at chamber music camps some years ago. The 3 of us have read through the 2nd movement a few times, but never performed it. I would have preferred to keep a consistent pulse seamlessly throughout the variations, but our coaches said not to....oh well. Thank you so much for commenting!! -Aaron

I played this exact piece, in this exact room, back in 1992. Loved it then. Great job!
