i teach house. i used to disagree with it also until i saw that it brings more people in the community.

i tell EVERY class that they can't learn how to house just from a class, and that they shouldnt try to dance like me, but use these classes as inspiration to dance like themselves.

so, the point here is 'to each their own.' some people want to house but dont know how to take the first step and this is that for them.

I have yet to meet a really great house dancer who learned primarily from classes or dvds. The best dancers learn on the dance floor and by spending time experimenting in the studio alone or with other dancers. People have learned to value the quality of something by how much it costs, not by what it does for them, so they pay for classes to eternity. In the end, people can't purchase creativity or originality but with solitude and sweat. I've never taken a house class.

Champloo - i play the guitar and I take ideas wherever I find them... Dance is the same and you can see the energy in that class. Yeah it's a little formulaic but that's like music licks - you use them in different settings looser and later. I really like this clip - the girl dancing in it is great. Like..... you can see that these folks are dancing..... but their flow is so mechanical. So retarded. You don't take a class to House. You either got it or you don't.

I disagree. There isn't anything wrong with teaching house dancing. If people want to learn new dance moves or just want to take it up as a hobby, so be it. Regardless, at some point someone was following someone, unless they're a genius, and so it's a little rude to judge. Whether one wants to learn established movements or press forward with their own is a personal choice. Any judgments would be subjective.
