ok have listened to the Shadow Puppets version, what planet are you crowed on or are you all very young, sorry guys no disrespect but really...... this version is oh so beautiful and sexy and ah jayzus..........
the taste, the colors...poor ears, poor feeling, weaked heart...too bad for you :o/ but doesn't matter for the song, one of the greatest from bowie's 60's.
Listen, there is only one version of this song worth Jack and this is it. Only Bowie could mix psychadaelia with gospel, and produce absolute magic like this track which after all is about 40 years old. It would be perfect if the ending was strung out another few minutes, but just listen, and appreciate genius.
I would never have liked this song as much as I do, if it wasn't for the Last Shadow Puppets version. I like the sound of their version much better than this original. Of course I love this one as well, it is a brilliant song, but Bowie's voice and the sound of this version is just not as interesting to me.
The thing that I like is,as much as a fan of Bowie that I am,id never heard this song until I heard the Last Shadow Puppets version (Which is great) - but Bowies original is fantastic, and i feel a fool for not knowing it was one of his songs when I heard puppets version.
Puppets version sounds better, forget that they didn't write or that they have more at their disposal. Nevertheless, Bowie was years ahead of his time and is undoubted lly an icon in music and one of the greatest songwriters of all time full stop. Turner's got a long way to go before he achieves that kind of status but I think it's great that someone in the modern age recognises this kind of music as a direct inspiration rather than just a mildly significant predecessor.
Have been a Bowie fan for most of my life, and this is one of my favourite songs, it's grooovvvvy baby!!!!!!!!!!!!Having said that, I love almost everything he's ever done!!!
Respect Bowie for this song...but i like more Alex, but this is a personal preference, cause original is also great...I can't explain why I like LSP version more...I just DO.
One thing clear from this, & it proabably is recorded a bit too politely, is that Bowie's voice is that of a much more interesting, strange talent than Alex Turner, very talented though he certainly is. Some children ignorant of Bowie's catalogue need to believe their current heroes stomp over the past. Stuff like Five Years, Quicksand, Heroes, etc etc- a higher level.
this is it fresh 60's sound as it happened then, don't worry about the shadow puppets both are good but this song epitomises the era of its origin, its from "the world of david bowie" on decca records, pre dates everything we know as bowie, just dig the hammond man!
Just to remind everyone; this original version does pre-date puppets' version by about 40 years. Consider the difference in what resources they'd have had at their disposal before lambasting the composer's version!
"last shadow puppets version is like 10 times better than this"...you are dreaming there.
This version is full of pathos...it shines with emotion...which is what Bowie's voice was famous for. The cover version is a decent rock track...but sounds a bit pedestrian. Listen to both tracks played loudly on a stereo and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.
that's probably why David Bowie was so happy that they covered it-they actually made it amazing. This version's nothing compared to the Last Shadow Puppets' version. I hate the way David Bowie says "morning" in this song and its weird cause I usually like him
Before lampooning the original composer's version, we should all first consider the era, that Bowie was unknown- this is pre-Space Oddity!- and the equipment and budget etc available to him in comparison.
PS; i bet Bowie hates the way you say "morning" too.
Rozkendal - something similar, big Bowie fan since early 70's when he appeared on TOTP's singing Starman, Bought World of David Bowie a few months later when on holiday in Minehead
Please, please, please Mr Bowie release your 'Toy' album! I've heard snippets of the new verson of this song 'silly boy blue' and 'london boys' and they are fab!
from the world of david bowie on decca records. the fair came to kendal as usual, it was 1973 and my dad decided a record would be better than going. as i had already bought aladin sane in the summer of the same year i bought the world of david bowie, iwas 9 years old. thanks dad and thank you for posting this fantastic track.
Great song, i prefer turners but this is years ahead of its time

david Bowie!

but he hasn't wrote the song!!!
