The W126 has been amazing since it came to the market. One just has to think of the sheer effort made by Daimler-Benz's engineers put into this vehicle when calculating that the impact speed must've been around 200 km/h or 125 mph. Both cars were travelling at at least a 100 kilometres an hour, most likely the other car was even faster. Today's cars are being run into barriers at 64, just for the sake of comparison.
