Fuel and wear/tear on a car adds up over time. So does auto insurance due to increased accidents or chances for crashes resulting from lengthy driving. The money I'm saving by buying at a reasonable price rather on credit with interest, can be put towards a high-price need. Like a car my family will need to use for 20 years, or an education I'll need to create extra money my family will live off of during my lifetime or a house they will live in for generations. Think about it.

A Buy Nothing Day, just like the Gas Strike Day don't do shit. Because what you don't buy today will only get spent tommorrow. You want to save? Buy mostly your NEEDS and spend only a little on your WANTS. But whether its needs or wants, try to find clever ways to get it cheaper. Stop continuously shopping every few days and driving arond from one mall to the next. Select 1 day to take care of your shopping needs and ration the gas/ mileage on your vehicle.

the fact is that much of our economy is unsustainable because it is based on us continuously buying shit that we dont need with borrowed money, or at the very least we are spending every penny we make and not saving for the future. my point is that many stores/companies MUST GO OUT OF BUSINESS! we must start saving more of our money.

this will of course result in job losses, but we can make up for that by deporting the 20-30 million illegal aliens and giving those jobs back to U.S. citizens!

You had me until the last little bit where your math got a little fuzzy, you assume that the numbers would balance, but even if you deported all the illegals and at the same time all the frivolous businesses closed, we would have a higher unemployment rate than we do now. How about we shift our spending to something else rather than mass-produced-in-China-crap. Instead fund a sustainable economy, put money into charities so there are less people who struggle financially, and support a -healthy- form of trade. This -should not- kill the economy and instead reinvent it, provide new jobs, and keep the interests of real -people- and the -planet- in mind while leading a life where shopping is not a drug, and consumption for the sake of consumption is not idealized.
