@GTRrocker666 I study them all. The abrahamic mythos is not nearly as mythological as the greek, it was meant to be about serious implications on one's life according to morality.
@vrghiks Lol, It's not brainwashing anyone XD it's MYTHOLOGY! XD I will say it again. MYTHOLOGY!. The key word being MYTH. XD Myths are not to be taken literally XD You are funny.
@Jnest55 Of they were God inspired and written by many different authors, then how can you possibly claim that its God's exact words. And if there is a minuscule chance that God was misquoted, then doesn't that make it all a lie?
P.S. Is that Ulysses tied to the mast towards the end? (to escape the siren's call)
I've been into Greek mythology since i was five. i always made my mom buy me books. All my friends try to sound smart by reciting the less than accurate stuff they learned in our mythology classes. i love correcting them :)

I wish I was greek, I'm not trying to against my religIion(Chritian) but When I become 19 I want to study other religions and then decide witch one I will choose, I think all people should do that be for devoting their entire life to the religion you were taught as a child.
Im in new york and it was 6th through 8th grade.. it was my fravorite subject.. Yes we are allowed to teach about thought cuz its history. ur not allowed to preach there is a difference.
the courts see it as the same thing. but then again every court is different. if you did learn greek mythology (counts as religion) in a NY public school it would be a rare case, maybe whatever town your in are not tight on these things
here in Cali the school district; specially in LA are very serious about anything relating to religion in schools. unfortunately if you wana study this stuff you have to take a special college class of buy a book about it
wow all Ny is that way.. we teach all thoeries of the world to give each person a chanch to learn and decide for themselves. It also teaches us to respect each others culture. Actually thou we didnt study much about christain or judism.
I wish I my schools taught the basics of religion. In texas everyone is so high and mighty about Christianity on top that I can't learn about other religions. I would like to learn about Islam and Confucianism.
i believe schools should teach the basics of all religions so we and understand other religions and cultures. Islam is interesting. And no affence to the christains but there the reason we can do alot of things cuz it goes against there religion. we can celebrate christmas and easter but we can celebrate anyother holidays in school.
It's part of being a "christian" country even though religion is supposed to be separate from our government. I have no problem with religion but when you won't vote for someone because they don't believe in your religion it is going too far.
Its funny that "Mythology" or what I prefer to call "Deitology" isn't taught in school yet Creationist Science and Intelligent Design is acceptable? Talk about hypercritacal double standards.
@AstroMen2911 mythology is taught in schools u dumbass, you were probably too poor to go to school to know, in 5th-6th grade, students are taught about the Greeks, Romans, Sumerians, Egyptians, and their mythologies; while in 8th, you learn about Native American mythology, and in the first half of high school (9th-10th), you learn about Mexican, European, and Asian mythologies, and not to mention there is a whole curriculum for mythology in some colleges; serves you wrong dumbfuck
Youre the dumbass you stupid fuck. My point was that it is classified as "mythology" instead as deitology" or ancient phillosophy. Yet christians can teach their bullshit in our school systems. Thats hypocracy spelled H-Y-P-O-C-R-A-C-Y. So shove that up your asshole, you son of a bitch.
so did you. Hypocritical is spelled H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-I-C-A-L, not H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-O-C-A-L......but if you know what it is, who gives a fuck about the spelling? I con tipe lik thes and steal yu can reed what it says.

Did you just say the real thing "Like the Bible" lol ok buddy the bible is just the same as Greek myths a very elaborate work of fiction based on some facts
Your comment was probably the dumbest comment I have seen on youtube in a long time. They are the same fucking thing! They are both religions, both of whitch have not been proven true. So you cant say the bible is real and greek isn't because some people believe in the bible and some believe in Zues! geez....I can only guess your another one of thous Christians bad mouthing other religions just because they aren't of your religion.
First Greek Mythology is a big part of history. You can't give a comprehensive history course on the Ancient Greek world without mentioning religion because religion played a massive role in Ancient Greek. Many communities were built around shrines and temples to the various gods, wars were often fought, prevented, and ended by the Temples.
Second, one man's unquestionable religion is another man's mythology. The Bible is just another man made religious book, full of myths and legends.
Anyway the Greeks did have a compilation of religious teachings comparable to the Bible or the Hindu Vedas, but it was burned with the Library of Alexandria. Hypatia, a scholar who attempted to rewrite much of it from memory, was murdered and literally ripped apart by Christian fanatics. The Pagan temples were desecrated and destroyed by Christians or converted into Churches.
Christianity isn't the real thing, it just bullied all others into submission.
I live in a part of Tennessee where there's a rather sizable underground community of Hellenistic Neopagans. The community is over a century and tends to blend it a lot, partly due to the reactions they get being in the Bible Belt. I'd have never known much about them if I hadn't dated one.
It's very interesting to me, to see all the modern spin on old greek myths, how they're taken as allegorical tales and metaphors with new age mysticism. It really got me interested in Greek mythology.
It's no dumber than any other religion, to be honest Hellenistic paganism is far more fascinating and makes far more sense than Christianity.
I mean, if you take the Greek myths as embellished metaphors and allegorical tales rather than as literal truth, you're far more reasonable than the person who takes the bible literally and believes that woman was made out of a rib and day and night were created before the sun and earth.
:) I don't know much about Christianity so I wouldn't be able to agree with you on that, But I do take your word on it so maybe I do agree! lol anyway thanks for the reply.
Because a magic rib woman and a magic dirt man and a talking snake and the day and night before the earth and sun all makes such perfect sense doesn't it?
Then Christians have the problem of an allegedly omnipotent, omniscient god that creates a divine comedy of fuck ups, culminating in a barbaric blood sacrifice of himself to himself to create a loop hole for a rule he created.
Hellenistic neopaganism makes more sense, particularly with myths as allegory with imperfect gods.
I understand Christianity perfectly and I know that you Christians are a bunch of scattered sects who can't agree on which version of the bible to use, what the bible says, what the bible means, what your god wants, which parts of the bible are from your god, whether or not Jesus was the same as Yahweh or whether Jesus is an entity unto himself ect.
If you don't take the Bible literally you're in the same boat as a hellenistic neopagan who doesn't take the Greek myths literally.
there is a little bit of scattering but the majority of christian believe what is important, Jesus is God. we are al sinners. Jesus died on the cross and rose agin on the third day. the Bible is God's word, while we all have preferences on bible versions we all agree that the Bible is stiil the Bible
While most Christians will agree that "Jesus is God" many can not agree on what that means, whether or not Jesus is Yahweh or actually an entity unto himself. Many of you will say that the Bible is "God's word" but others will say that it's "Divinely Inspired", what none of you can agree on are what chapters to take literally and what chapters to take allegorically or metaphorically, what verses to apply today and what verses not to apply today, ect.
(you said) "what none of you can agree on are what chapters to take literally and what chapters to take allegorically or metaphorically, what verses to apply today and what verses not to apply today, ect."
------------------------------------
Omg you are so right. My friend is always saying this is real and this is symbolic....Wtf?!? whats real to him and whats fake?? Ether there is a missing way to read the bible correctly or god is a fucking idiot lol (I dont believe in god btw lol)
The mere fact that there are catholics and protestants proves my point, and I never said that Christians have anything to do with greek history, idiot.
Actually they all happen to agree on the king james version which is the real version and if you went to church you would actuallly know bitch and if you actualll y read the bible you would know its true youre just a freak whos been listening to too much evelution crap and a lso if youre going to make fun of something someone will make fun of you back
I am replying on the greek mytholgy video... I dont believe in it either but boy is it intresting! I am a Lurtherian Christan and if your a reall one ( as in christan) i would lisen up. Swearing is not only a curse but offence to me because its a well avoied sin and ppl say their religous and start cursing up a storm! all im saying is im 13 and ive given up cursing when in school averyone includeing the rare teacher will curse but do i? no! i dont i folow the one true Lord and read the Bible!
I just want to clarify, from a purely historical stand point, the Bible isn't really a rip off of the Torah because the Torah is actually part of the Bible. If you were to research into the archeological finds of the original texts you would see that the Christian Bible is purely an expansion, a continuation of the Torah. Like adding more chapters to a book
@171Micah68 bhahahahahaha! Wow? are you serious? The bible was re-written so many times... by the jews, for political power. For example the christans love the jews because their "bible" tells then too. But even that is rediculas. How is the bible anything like th eTorah? The bible talks manly about jesus (new testement) and how he is "god" and the messiah. But the Torah speaks of their messiah and has nothing of jesus. How are they alike? Or even the same? haha their not.
Have you read either one? Its called inspiration, dumbass. That's like saying Romeo & Juliet is a rip off of Pyramus and Thisbe. It's called inspiration. Next time, keep your personal beliefs to yourself. It's fine that you don't believe but don't go making wild claims to the internet, no one likes a jackass.
You said it, personal beliefs. You don't like it? Don't read it and just move on, it's as simple as that. I swear people are so fuckin sensitive nowadays you can't say any individual thing without people raising hell about it.
I wish I know more about Greek mythology - the more I learn the more there is to learn. I did not realize until recently that so much of Christianity is based on Greek myths and stories slightly altered. And that the image of Jesus Christ that we know today is the same as the image of Zeus in most Greek temples.
Christianity is based heavily from middle-eastern religion. The Good God vs. Evil God comes from a Sumerian point. Ahura Mahzda being God and Ahriman being Satan. As the Romans conquered Europe and most of Persia, they picked up aspects of their religious beliefs to make it seem familiar to the locals and make them turn to their beliefs. So Christianity was used by the Romans as a war strategy that eventually adapted to the local countries and stuck around to become Christianity today.
IsaBlackpaw - I agree with you, for the most part. Although I believe that the concept of "good" versus "evil" came from Zoroastrianism and other religions throughout the middle east. I completely agree that the Roman Emperors adopted Christianity solely to use it to control conquered populations,
Atlavocat - Zoroastrianism comes from the Sumerian pantheon. Not saying your wrong, I was just saying before Zoroastrianism it was the Chaldeans who had the concept of 'good' vs. 'evil', and before that was the Sumerians, which had Ahura Mazhda and Ahriman as their chief gods until the story of Marduk was formed, in which the 'good' vs. 'evil' concept was reborn by Zoroaster, changing the names to Yahweh and Satan(which literally means 'adversary'). Sorry for the sudden burst of knowledge. XD
IsaBlackpaw - It is important to be familiar with ancient religions because it enables us to see the development of ideas, principles and traditions. But just as monotheism was an Egyptian concept adopted by the Hebrews, most ancient Egyptians rejected monotheism. Most Sumerians rejected the principle of "good vs. evil", although I have no doubt that the original principles came from there (as you say).
Greek mythology is great, but even the Greek's didn't beleive the majority of it, and because of this only basic knowledge is needed to study history. All too much focus has been put on the mythology of Greece in schools, lets get to the red meat shall we?

Its funny how a simple advertising video like this can become a battle ground for duchebags arguing about religion.
What is religion? Something that is SUPPOSED to teach you morals. However, we get stuck in the pointless details, and even kill people over religion.
If you kill someone for having a different religion, then guess what? You're not very religious!!!

:) I don't know much about Christianity so I wouldn't be able to agree with you on that, But I do take your word on it so maybe I do agree! lol anyway thanks for the reply.

more sense than christiananity? lol yea right
FutureMarine246 2 years ago
Because a magic rib woman and a magic dirt man and a talking snake and the day and night before the earth and sun all makes such perfect sense doesn't it?
Then Christians have the problem of an allegedly omnipotent, omniscient god that creates a divine comedy of fuck ups, culminating in a barbaric blood sacrifice of himself to himself to create a loop hole for a rule he created.
Hellenistic neopaganism makes more sense, particularly with myths as allegory with imperfect gods.
Atheistx82 2 years ago
you dont really understand christianity, I would be happy to share it if you would like
FutureMarine246 2 years ago
I understand Christianity perfectly and I know that you Christians are a bunch of scattered sects who can't agree on which version of the bible to use, what the bible says, what the bible means, what your god wants, which parts of the bible are from your god, whether or not Jesus was the same as Yahweh or whether Jesus is an entity unto himself ect.
If you don't take the Bible literally you're in the same boat as a hellenistic neopagan who doesn't take the Greek myths literally.
Atheistx82 2 years ago 2
there is a little bit of scattering but the majority of christian believe what is important, Jesus is God. we are al sinners. Jesus died on the cross and rose agin on the third day. the Bible is God's word, while we all have preferences on bible versions we all agree that the Bible is stiil the Bible
FutureMarine246 2 years ago
While most Christians will agree that "Jesus is God" many can not agree on what that means, whether or not Jesus is Yahweh or actually an entity unto himself. Many of you will say that the Bible is "God's word" but others will say that it's "Divinely Inspired", what none of you can agree on are what chapters to take literally and what chapters to take allegorically or metaphorically, what verses to apply today and what verses not to apply today, ect.
Atheistx82 2 years ago
(you said) "what none of you can agree on are what chapters to take literally and what chapters to take allegorically or metaphorically, what verses to apply today and what verses not to apply today, ect."

The Bible is just a rip off of the Torah. Personally I don't really believe in either.
nightwhatchman 2 years ago
I just want to clarify, from a purely historical stand point, the Bible isn't really a rip off of the Torah because the Torah is actually part of the Bible. If you were to research into the archeological finds of the original texts you would see that the Christian Bible is purely an expansion, a continuation of the Torah. Like adding more chapters to a book
171Micah68 2 years ago

It's fine that you don't believe but don't go making wild claims to the internet, no one likes a jackass.
fatpirateofdeath 2 years ago
You said it, personal beliefs. You don't like it? Don't read it and just move on, it's as simple as that. I swear people are so fuckin sensitive nowadays you can't say any individual thing without people raising hell about it.

I wish I know more about Greek mythology - the more I learn the more there is to learn. I did not realize until recently that so much of Christianity is based on Greek myths and stories slightly altered. And that the image of Jesus Christ that we know today is the same as the image of Zeus in most Greek temples.
Atlavocat 2 years ago
Christianity is based heavily from middle-eastern religion. The Good God vs. Evil God comes from a Sumerian point. Ahura Mahzda being God and Ahriman being Satan. As the Romans conquered Europe and most of Persia, they picked up aspects of their religious beliefs to make it seem familiar to the locals and make them turn to their beliefs. So Christianity was used by the Romans as a war strategy that eventually adapted to the local countries and stuck around to become Christianity today.
IsaBlackpaw 2 years ago
IsaBlackpaw - I agree with you, for the most part. Although I believe that the concept of "good" versus "evil" came from Zoroastrianism and other religions throughout the middle east. I completely agree that the Roman Emperors adopted Christianity solely to use it to control conquered populations,
Atlavocat 2 years ago
Atlavocat - Zoroastrianism comes from the Sumerian pantheon. Not saying your wrong, I was just saying before Zoroastrianism it was the Chaldeans who had the concept of 'good' vs. 'evil', and before that was the Sumerians, which had Ahura Mazhda and Ahriman as their chief gods until the story of Marduk was formed, in which the 'good' vs. 'evil' concept was reborn by Zoroaster, changing the names to Yahweh and Satan(which literally means 'adversary'). Sorry for the sudden burst of knowledge. XD
IsaBlackpaw 2 years ago

I'm taking a general mythology class as my elective this year. I'm glad I did.
I just hope they get better elective choices next year. Nothing educational to choose. =(
Depending on the price, I might take this course over the summer.
