  • F...you Brownsgold...Dave carries the band...How can you say they carry him? They are very good...but also VERY lucky to be with such a TALENT...Nothing with out him....

  • "No reasons to get excided"... yeah right.

  • THE IS THE MOST MIND BLOWIND SONG EVER MADE!

  • Whoahh!!!

  • @VictorAndreasW definitely a taylor, not sure what model though

  • What guitar is that?

  • @VictorAndreasW That's a Taylor 914ce with a customized fretboard and a bunch of other customized things

  • @DRBROWNSOFFICE its a 1999 version of the taylor 914ce....the fretboard design isn't customized....its called the cindy inlay and it is only on the 1999 models....the only thing about how guitar thats customized is the electronics

  • dave's best version

  • I hear ya, ultra... Awesome!!!!!!

  • Sorry....Dave should not play without the band.....they carry him!

  • Doing the state of Washington proud!

  • I didnt know God could play the guitar and sing...

  • I just can't breath during 5min

  • i just can breath

  • ,khjl

  • that guitar sounds so good.

  • Ha, invisible dave at the start.

  • And people think Keanu Reeves is Neo??? Fuck off...He is the One.

  • ~C~H~I~L~L~S~

  • There is no spoon, but there sure as shit is a Dave Matthews.

  • @Elarame I really hope your not interpreting Spoon as God. Thats not what Dave meant when he wrote spoon..

  • @TheGroogrux34 wat was spoon about?

  • @TheGroogrux34 why ya gotta get all theological over a song comment? no i didnt mean god, i meant spoon, like the kid in matrix said... there is no spoon. i.e. its all in your head, the spoon and the power to bend it. But Dave resides elsewhere... i.e. the unbendable land of reality. Sooo.... to end this extra long explanation of what i thought was self explanitory,... There is no spoon, but there sure as shit is a Dave F$#king Matthews.

  • @TheGroogrux34 Dude, that's, like, soooo deep

  • No reason to get excited!- thank you. LOVE HIM!

  • the wind began too.... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • this interpretation could not be real

  • He is the chosen one.

  • perfect.

  • god he is good...my favorite version of this song by him

  • He really knows his voice limits.Sometimes he gets very close to it.But never reaches, thats an amazing singer.

  • Fucking goose bumps every time!!

  • he has to be one of the most talented people on this earth. i love it.

  • wow.... my brains....

  • Incredible!

  • Best since Michael Hedges!

  • the most awkward strumming hand i've ever seen.. but simply amazing

  • Fuckin AWESOME

  • unbelievable.... simply dave

  • HOLLAND GO DAVE :D

  • how awesome is the strumming just after 5:29. seriously!

  • Whats so special about his strumming?

  • if you just listen to the whole song, it's different form the rest. it's pretty awesome, like scratchy and stuff.

  • @9611CALL

yeah its amazing how well he can mute strings and make it all sound awesome. He is one of the best at doing that.

  • that is a northface shirt he is wearing and some levis. he gets his hair cut at super cuts and uses cuticale scissors to cut his nails as apposed to clippers. he has acuvue contacts in and vans on for sneakers. the stage is made out of wood. that should end the pissing contest. tools.

  • dude do u stalk dave??

  • dude its a joke, read some of the previous posts and you may be able to catch on

  • seems like a sick show from these videos

  • he's crazy.. seriously it is phenomenal what a man, his vocals and a guitar can do.

  • that song just blew my mind away...i can see fragments of my brain strewn about the room

  • His guitar is a 714c. Not ce, I don't think. I believe he added his own electronics after he purchased the guitar.

Such an amazing performance of this song! Love it.

    Cheers.

  • Holy Fuck! And I say that with all my heart.

  • saw this live at fenway about a month ago. had to be one of the most amazing thigns i've ever seen (the show in general). i didnt know how i would feel about this song without the band coming in but holy shit that was an amazing version.

  • They played this last night in Saint Louis and it was incredible, during the last verse they went into Stairway to Heaven and then back into Watchtower. AMAZING!

  • 2:53 is the best part!!!

  • damn this guy is amazing.... this is a sweet version.. still nothing beats the whole band version on central park! absolutely crazy

  • Heard the one on folsom? IMO the best they ever did, completely amazing. Gotta love the intro on Central park though, starspangled banner, haha.

  • I like the live in Chicago the best. It must be the longest one.

  • Where is Dave for 1st 85 secends?

  • Dylan/Hendrix/Matthews...all 3 versions are sick...so anyone who appreciates the song/music in general...SHUT UP N LISTEN!

  • It's a Taylor 914ce

  • it is just a taylor 914c..

  • wrong.

hmm you should go to their website.. click the link that says ROAD.. then click bands gear.. youll find this...

    Taylor 914C 6-String Acoustic Guitar

it is okay that you dont know what he plays, dave adds his own pickups later. dave has always added his own pickups too.

  • that's interesting.

    what pickups does he use?

  • i am pretty sure he uses fishman pickups.

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha you try to make yourself sound smart by making someone else look stupid..but you get pwned!!!! dumbass, get your info right before you try to talk shit

  • oh because you knew the exact model of what guitar dave uses?

i picked the taylor. i picked 914. i pointed out the cutaway, and i obviously knew it was electric. how was i supposed to know that he installed his own pickups? why is it every other dave video that has some conversation about his guitar has someone mentioning it as a 914ce? was i wrong to assume it was an electric acoustic, seeing as there is a chord protruding from the body of the guitar? i think i justified myself.

  • Comment removed

  • I put him right by Dylan himself. =) They are both amazing. =)

  • You've already been anwered. Why did you ask that on every video of this show?

  • i don't want to waste our time going back and forth on the merits of both versions. When its all said and done, It's just gonna boil down to personal preference.

As good as Dave's version is it still comes at me as a cover. Jimi made this song his own not only with his virtuoso abilities but with his larger than life personality.

  • i don't know... i listened to them again, back to back. Its close but i still like Jimi's better. If Jimi Hendrix had never existed then Dave would he the better version.

  • Yeah, but if Jimi never existed this version would probably not be as good. Like I said, I LOVE both versions but this one just does it for me more. Especially when he does it with the band. Cause it's got the soft side and the heavy side.

  • I mean, I love both versions, but you can't really compare them because they sound so different. Dave's version is more folksy (couldn't think of another word) and Jimi's is more like... rock. Either way, they're both awesome versions of this song.

  • Folksy?? Youre right, you couldnt think of any other words. Bc thats far from an accurate description of Daves version of Watchtower. Dylans (the original) is the "folksy" version.

  • Dude, you're right. Dylan's version is definately the most "folksy" of the three. But, I really can't think of another word to describe Dave's version because Dave is so unique. It's all good though, because they're all good.

  • good rendition of a classic Bob Dylan tune.... but Jimi still owns it.

  • I respectfully dissagree. This is most definitely my favorite version of this song.

  • I like hendrix's verse but did you heard Dylans. I love him he's the greastest artist of all time, they're something about when he sings.

  • a guy from my guitar class recommended i watch these videos, and now i'm very glad he did

  • did i mention he is awsome

  • he is awmazing!!!!!

  • I've enjoyed listening to this song on a few of his live albums, but SEEING him do it SOLO is - like the other guys said - EPIC!

My opinion: He is the best musician of our time. I would love to see someone from the Beatle generation agree.

  • wow I have been waiting so long to hear someone say that! i totally agree. I didnt think anyone else thought so tho....

  • He is absolutely up there with The Beatles, in my humble 25 yr old opinion. His song writing is phenominal, voice is stunning, guitar playing is mind blowing, and his lyrics move almost anyone who hears them.

    Even his covers are superb!

    Peace

  • Every band i like has like 1 or 2 songs i don't really like. but how is it that EVERY SINGLE ONE of Dave's songs give me chills?? he is simply the epitome of awesome!

  • best damn song ever made, this rendition is amazing. It is like you never want him to leave the stage when he starts singing.

  • where is dave at the start of the vid? is there a delay in the video?

  • ahh very sick video...thanks for the post...ending was great!!!

  • Very EPIC!

  • EPIC

  • I love the sound off almost all his songs on the acoustic. Whether he is with the band or all alone the guitar is the greatest.

  • this is a good video but nothing beats all along the watchtower in folsom feild...i mean i was getting goosebumps with all the lights and shit

  • Damn, he is good.

  • i tried to post a response, but dave is the center of my influence... this is my absolute favorite version of this song!

  • This is the best version i've ever seen! Dave Matthews is not only a Name it's a Legend! Great song

  • damn he's good.

  • Dave = musical genius.

  • 5:40 is spine tingling

  • when he nails that note live with the band I feel like I'm listening to Rocky music and could kick friggin ass... I mean that in a nice way, I guess. It's awesome, OK?!

  • #1 - the man or woman who recorded this show needs to be given a nobel peace prize, or an olympic gold medal, or the presidency. #2 - PLEASE if anyone knows how to download files from youtube to your own computer, please reply to this and let me know how. This needs to be preserved in a museum - or a DVD. If this show ever leaves the internet before I pull it down I swear I will never leave my house again. Overboard?

  • seek help

  • I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not. But, if you're serious about it then keyword "how to download youtube videos" on google.

  • why a nobel peace prize? i dont get it

  • My point was the person who recorded/posted this show deserves any good thing that this earth has to offer.

  • best solo performance ever..dude dis guy sings like hell...totally kicked ass

  • this is a perfect example of a human and his instrument actually becoming one being

  • Best acoustic performance ever...

  • Wow!

    Just Wow! :)

  • que potencia!!!

  • thank you bob for writing this song. thank you dave for blessing us with your rendition. someday i wish to be an inspiration to someone as they are to me

  • this is kool where can i get the whole session on dvd or cd?

  • I would also like to know

  • Hell yea, does Dave still do those acoustic sessions as well? Don't get me wrong the group is fucking amazing, but Dave solo or with Tim is something special, something that is truly life changing.

  • The spirit is obviously moving him here. Beautiful.

    Thank you.

  • i seriously cannot understand why people dont give this five

  • 120 people have voted and all of them 5 stars. :)

  • that guitar is fantastic

  • what guitar is he using

  • hmmmm....I think that's a Taylor Guitar

  • taylor 914ce

  • not the ce... just the 914c, dave's 914's arent electric... he added the Fishman Natural II electronics to them after he bought them

  • i'm pretty sure its a taylor 914ce w/ fishman custom pick ups. I could be mistaken though.

  • just the 914c... not the ce (the 'ce' stands for cutaway electric) he just has the regular cutaway.. although you are correct about the fishman electronics.. he added the pickups on so he could plug in

  • I think he does it to mute everything else.

  • Does anyone have any idea why dave plays with his pinky and first fingers what most people would play with their first and ring fingers? For example 5X7XXX, 3X5XXX, 1X3XXX where the 7 then 5 then 3 are all played with the pinky. I wonder if he started playing at such a young age that that's the only fingers he could reach to play power chords with.

  • Watch his 2 middle fingers during those power chords, he's using them to mute. He has muting down to a science <3

  • I see what you're saying but it's just odd because you can really do the same thing with the first and ring finger if you just lift your whole hand up.

  • it's probably just a force of habit. he seems to use it any time he's playing only holding down two notes. it's also a good way to strengthen your pinky

  • dude i do the same thing its just more comfortable to me and i assume that it is the same way for him

  • it has to do with muting.. he is a god at this..

plus if you hold the power chord you would have 577XXX.. best guess he just lifted his ring finger to help with the muting.. honestly it is a hell of a lot more comfortable to play it his way..

  • just one more testament to his utter mastery of his own artistry. Dave can do alot of great things musically, but he's the best at being himself...fuckin' sick shit right here, i tell you.

  • What the hell... That is so awesome! The greatest what I've ever seen from Dave..! really Great. the best version of this song.. awesome

  • this and woodstock 99 are my favorite versions of this song...nice dave

  • wow, great video and great version.

  • holy shit!

  • I think that was the best version of that song by dave I have seen!

definitely the best cover! (of that song)

  • look at Dave`s version on my profile it great too!

  • lol my bad: Am*, G, F, G

  • A, G, F are the chords throughout the whole song...easiest dave song ever

  • so awesome.

  • so awesome.

  • Putin c tip il jér tro =D

  • bottom string, frets 1,3,5,3,1,3,5,3,1,3 etc then just at the same time third string 3,5,7,5,3,5,7,5, etc

  • I just cant get this song right ... open for suggestons! text me x

  • what strings does he play on which freds at the beginning ? can somebody tell?

    x

  • he's just plays octaves of A, G, F, G; repeat.

    5th fret, 6th (low E) string + 7th fret, 4th (D) string-->A; 3rd fret, 6th string + 5th fret, 4th string-->G; 1st fret, 6th string + 3rd fret, 4th string-->F. then he plays, A minor, G (open position), F (closed position), then G again. mess around with it and try to play with the recording. you'll get it.

  • badass, thnx for the post

  • that is the dogz

  • has anyone got the tabs?

  • Yeah, Am, G, F then repeat.

  • ridiculous

  • It's really, really good how he can bring so much love in this song... He's a really great amazing awesome Guitarplayer and singer... It's an absolutely other version as the Dylan or Hendrix's versions... So beautyful...

  • this is absouletly brillant. the fact the he takes a song that can only sound good with a band and turns it into that. only dave.

  • galopmacho we all no jimi was the best guitarist who cares i admire him for that being a guitarist myself but his cover was terrible because lik it or not u need to sing in music and he sucked dick at that.. dave rocks this

  • wtf is this guy trying to prove? this isn't even near bob or jimi's version of the song...

i play better than he does :)

  • you are an idiot!

Seriously, I am not trying to be mean but...you really are an idiot

  • yes yes, i'm the idiot. cuz i hate it when people rape good songs. i mean you can try... and there are always a bunch of idiots who can't play a single instrument who think ur tha bomb.

but face reality dude... it's not because you can't play the guitar that this is a good cover.

    this cover stinks, nice try...

  • Why all the hate??? If ya don't like it then don't listen to it.... When Jimi did the cover everyone said that it sucked too at first. This isn't Bob or Jimi, it is Dave and it is his song his version.... don't hate life is too short for that

  • you know, i don't think he's trying to prove anything other than the fact that he likes the song and that he made his own rendition of it.

this is DEFINITELY a very easy song to play. Am, G, F, G over and over. but ol' davey boy definitely has come up with really tough rhythm parts. this tune is certainly not one of them

  • do you guys even know what ur talking about? very easy song to play? have ever heard the jimi version? this isn't supposed to be a chord song. and this guy just rapes it, and even get's credit for it. if he want's to play music, he needs to digg into another style, cuz i hate it when people f*ck up songs. and i'm not a hater, i just can't comprehend people who love this. it's like loving rnb, i don't get that either.

  • i meant this version is really easy to play. it's just 3 chords. and when i said dave has come up with tough rhythm parts, i meant he's made tough rhythm parts in other songs.

the original version was also only 3 chords: C#m, B, A. jimi's version was really good. it's based around five chords, but jimi's soloing over it for most of the song.

  • yes, jimi's version is better. no is saying that it isn't. and i don't think it's possible to be better than the guy who orginally wrote it, so bob's is better than jimi's or dave's.

  • How can you say that it's not supposed to be a chord song? Have you ever heard of a guy named Bob Dylan? He kinda wrote it and it is very much a chord song. Jimi's the one who changed it and stole the credit. Kinda like how everyone thinks that GNR wrote Knockin on Heaven's Door. I also think that the only good version he did was Central Park in 2003. Saying things about how he "raped it" is all opinion and nothing more. Remember, Jimi's was NOTHING like the original either.

  • Only retards think Gnr made knocking on heavens door and only retards thinks Dylans Watchtower Is Better than Jimis! JIMI IS THE BEST! then Bob, and third Dave

  • wow....get a grip.

  • This version isnt "his"... this version was introduced by Trey Anastacio of Phish

  • Trey lives in my town so im fortunate enough to see him fairly reguraly

  • do us a favor... kill yourself...

  • oh well... at least i tried.

  • He is recognized by professors, musicions, other artists as one of the best rythme guitarists and vocalist. His live performances sound better then his album, his not fake like 99% of the shit thats out there now. So before you think you know anything about music, just cuz he changed a song by a great artist into a great song, and you didnt like it, shows how ignorant you are. You dont know what talent is, you only know what your told.

  • or i'm just a little harder to convince. but this is an endless discussion, so please. enjoy ur life.

have fun in ur little world
