  • @littlerussiadog How many more do you want? I am heading for the thousand as it is! :-))

  • Fantastic rendition of the song. When I first played it my wife thought it was Burl Ives. My wife started singing this song this morning and believe it or not it was the first time I heard this song in my life of almost 59 years. She is originally for Montreal and I am from New Jersey.

You are terrific and we can't wait to check out your other songs.

  • It is very kind of you to say so. Thank you.

  • Wow - I remember this from junior school in the 1950s.

It must have been one of the first few years

of school. How great that they used to teach

little kids to sing songs like this! What wonderful teachers we had in the UK

    back then...

Makes me still think that donkeys are wonderful creatures to this very day.

In fact I saw some in a field the other day here in Florida! Ha ha!

Nice playing too by the way!

  • Thank you for your kind comment. Yes indeed, I am sure my own love of folk music stems from those far off days.

  • hello again missed you at the tt (adt to go one)

  • In that case you must look me up at the Tynwald Inn on the Tuesday evening(s). It is a good night's entertainment at no cost other than what you consume from the bar.

  • learnt this as kid. 51 now .brought back

    certain memories :)

  • I hope those memories were good ones??? I see from your channel that you might have a slight interest in motor bikes!!!

Have you been to the Isle of Man?

  • I play this with my bandmate on bagpipes and didgeridoo. I didn't even know it had lyrics!

  • As the saying goes, 'you live and learn' :)

  • That's probably "Hieland Laddie" that you play, no?

  • Hmmm, dunno. Always just been called "Donkey Riding". The tune is certainly the same. Say more about "Hieland Laddie"....

  • Interesting! Well, "Hieland Laddie" is a popular Scottish march that is often played on bagpipes. It's widely assumed that "Donkey Riding" was set to that melody. The very end of of "Hieland Laddie" melody and "Donkey Riding" are usually different. Here's the pipe tune:

  • Go to our myspace page (laughingheartspubband) and you can hear how we perform it. My bandmate plays the pipes and I'm on didgeridoo. It's a live recording, by-the-way, so she's the one talking to the crowd in the beginning...

  • OK, cool. Good job also on "Sam's Gone Away".

  • Thank you, sir!

  • Hello, that was excellent, =), I remember couple years back when my band played this piece

  • Hi,

    Thank you for this comment

  • Hey our welcome

  • Hello, I remember well my first music teacher, Miss Fitzgerald, and the songs she taught us...I enjoyed your song, and I love donkeys. Blessings to you.

  • Thanks Karen,

I trust you realise that the donkey referred to was a mechanical engine called a 'donkey engine', not a real donkey. though I must admit that until Miss Kennaugh corrected us we did think it was a real donkey the man was riding!!
