  • i am familiar with drawing but your video techniques have helped me realize what i am doing wrong. thanx for sharing these priceless techniques.

  • when i use the 4h pencil it scratches to deep into the surface of the paper to the point that when i shade over it i can still see an etched like line.

  • You rock, Darrell!!!

  • Did you change the brand of pencils you use. They used to be all turquoise and now they are different colors. I really like the different colors because it helps to see what pencil you are using and the icons at the top are awesome. Are still recommending the turquoise pencils or are the ones you are using better?

  • @csteeleteach

the important thing is not the pencil, it is what you do with it. Yes good paper and good pencils will help but any student grade 9b to 4h will produce stunning results but you must practice. You don't learn to play a piano by worrying what make it is. Draw as much as you can and have FUN doing it. Art should be fun :-)

  • @csteeleteach yea,the different colors immediately pop in your mind. very smart.

  • Hi, I have a problem on my computer , I can't get it dark enough on this particular lesson on the lip. It is hard to see what you are doing. What can I do to remedy this

    situation.?

  • To christinebolt697-- Try expanding the little video screen to Full Screen, and view in a semi-dark room. This improves the contrast and lets you see this very faint drawing.

  • how do you shade so good that it looks like you used your finger or used a blending stick to make it shaded.

  • I also purchased the "How to draw a Portrait" from Darrell and believe me that I learned so much from his lessons that I am proud of myself! Especially the technique how to draw the hair improved my drawings a great deal. I highly recommend this course to improve the skills of portrait drawing. It is very affordable when you consider other artists videos are more expensive and less educational. Thanks Darrell

  • I purchased the "How To Draw A Portrait" course from The 5 Pencil Method and my portrait drawing has improved by leaps and bounds.....I recommend his free lessons first and learning his beginning methods, but have to say its the best course out there to get some serious improvement in your drawing. Thanks Darrell !

  • I have been practicing for years to get better at what I do and every time you send a new video, I find that I am not as good as I could be. But with practice and the tips you send I am getting better. When I complete a picture that I am okay with I will send you a pic. Thanks for your encouragement.

  • This works so well... I couldn't draz a mouth for my life. But the mouth I JUST DREW looks amazing. THANK YOU Mr. Tank!

  • I've just realised, Darrel reminds me of the bear from Toy Story 3...

Awesome videos though, really useful. Keep up the good work!

  • I really like all your lessons and tips. Thank you Mr. Tank

  • Thank you again

  • tkx you for your help

  • Thank you , Mr Tank. I am learning alot from this, and I am still practicing with the previous lessons. You are wonderful. I am so "Tankful."lol" seriously. I am very grateful for these lessons. I was not happy with my drawings and could not put my figure on what the problem was. I do realize what it is and what to do about it.

  • Thank you so much :) You're a great instructor

  • I really like how you've added the pencil information to your videos. That's Great! Thanks. :)

  • Thank you Darrel!! You are awesome, your tips always are very helpful, but I would like to have the complete lesson. Is the DVD ready for sale?

  • Thank you again Darrel!

  • Always great videos

  • Hi Darrel, Thanks so much for another great tutorial. Every new bit of infor always helps. I am currently working on the mouth of my latest drawing of an elderly lady, and am having alot of difficulty because of not only the smile, but also, trying to get the teeth (which are very prominent) to not look like "monster" teeth. It would be great to have some instructions on drawing the teeth also at some time in the future. thanks for helping us become better at our work.

  • Hi Darrel! Well, again, you're as awesome as ever with your Instructions! Oh, how I hope everyone truly interested in learning to draw from you can get access to your DVDs! I try to help others on your Community forum but sometimes, it's like the Blind trying to lead the Blind! Ha! Thanks for the free Video on drawing the mouth!

  • Hi, My name is tyler berry and i am 16 years old. i have been considered professionally skilled by several art teachers and judges in competitions. However, i dont let that go to my head, and i know i have a very long time before i am as good as this. I would greatly appreciate any critiques and comments anyone may have, in hope that i can better myself as an artist.

    Thanks,

    Tyler

on my page, i have a video of my artwork, or search "graphite portraits by tyler berry" on facebook

  • Thank you Darrel for these helpful tips, I am hungry for more. Are we going to be able to get this in DVD? If it is possible for you to make some tips also for the nose? I will be appreciating……..

    Thank you very much

  • Thank you, Darrel. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. Please continue your insightful helps. I have found the mouth more difficult than I at first understood. The mouth, in my drawing, can make the difference in a good likeness.... I have found it difficult.
