@fewtwayfertray aaron Rome's hit was later than this one by almost 0.5-1 second, but yeah they were similar. as great as Kariya is the,nhl rules back then were BETTER and also in todays game they might NOT HAVE LET Kariya come back after that, then there wouldn't have been that awesome moment, the Ducks did well to make it to game 7 but like vancouver this year, it wouldn't really have been justice for them to win, though they would have been more deserving than Vancouver
Where has Gary Thorne gone? Gary Thorne and Rick Jeanneret for the Stanley Cup Finals!!!!! The rhetoric would be so thick you could slice it, and eat it, and it would taste so good.
one of my favorite series ever. I am a die hard ducks fan and always will be. Even though they didn't win the cup that year, they made it all the way to the end. At least they one it 5 years later. I miss the old mighty ducks so much and wish they would wear they old colors from time to time. Ducks fly together!!!
After the Ducks won Game 4 & tied the series, I really thought that they were destined to go all the way that year; but then New Jersey ripped Anaheim 6-3 back home in Game 5. As it turned out, the home team won all 7 games in the series.
Y'know, at the time, the thought of a New Jersey-Anaheim Cup Final didn't seem very exciting at first, but in the end, it was a very good series, noted for fantastic goaltending. Brodeur & Giguere were excellent in this series:-)
@TheMNFproductions Nobody was really surprised when the Devils, a 2 seed, made it to the finals, but the Ducks were a Cinderella story that almost pulled off four rounds of upsets, none of which would've been possible without Giguere's outstanding play. You had no reason to be pissed; you guys won, the least you could've done is shown respect for a keeper who was obviously the fuel behind Anaheim's run, and I'll go so far to say that Brodeur couldn't have done what Jiggy did that postseason
I was crying as a kid when New Jersey won game seven. The Mighty Ducks were my team since the movies as a 4 year old. It coulda been the greatest cinderella story in NHL history, but BORING NEW JERSEY had to go and ruin it.
i remember watching this game, it was one of the most fuckin brilliant games ive ever seen, and paul kariya became one of my favourite players when he stepped back onto the ice and scored a goal
I hate how people say one team got lucky and one dident...
I like both the ducks and devils... both teams played great games all through the series... Devils still won, but all the players on both teams made there names in this series... Very physical and high scoring series, something everyone wants too see..
Good job to anahiem and devils for making a amazing series.
Stevenson did to Kariya is absolutely horrible. LATE HIT. HIT with EXTENDED UPPER ARM. Not the shoulder as many make you believe. What he plays is NOT Hockey. This is Brutal Sissy Job on ice. If you watch Stevens Hit on Lindros on Frame by Frame, you know how ugly hit Stevenson laid on him. He Hit Lindos head by extending his arm. What he plays is NOT hockey.
@Julian24151 i dont have a problem with L.A. area having 2 teams even if one is in Anaheim. Hell I even give Kariya credit for picking his ass off the ice and scoring that goal. I just have a problem with people who try to hate on guys who are in the hall of fame, especially Devils players, and not even get the fucking name right.
@Julian24151 Laugh all you want, the Ducks have actually been pretty successful in Anaheim through the years. Granted, they don't always sell out, but the Ducks always have competitive teams that do attract the fanbase there:-)
@CtrlRm Why? Because he let 5 goals in that game? thats fucking stupid...giguere let in 6 goals in game 5 , and let in 19 goals in the series, while brodeur let in 12, fuck you you have no idea what your talking about
@Julian24151 Actually if you look at the stats for the entire playoffs, Giguere faced more shots than Brodeur and still gave up less goals. You obviously don't know what you are talking about.
@zachattack19955 Get your facts straight that it took til the finals to slow down the Ducks. In the conf finals vs Minnesota giguere allowed only 1 goal.. ONE GOAL IN FOUR GAMES.
@zachattack19955 Last time I checked, I wasn't a Ducks fan, but a Jets and Pwnguins fan. I respect the Devils, and they're the only team other than Pittsburgh in that division that i dont hate
the wish the ducks could have won this series cuz they outplayed new jersey every game except game 7 when the devils beat them they were tired awesome game tohugh.
kariya was sick when he was on the ducks.... i was kind of disappointed in him when he left though, especially considering he said during these finals that he wanted to finish what he started and stay in Anaheim for his whole career...
What a goal by Kariya. Amazing! Brodeur got him the second time though, but from the look of him he didn't expect to save it. He probably didn't even see it, just threw up the glove! How amazing did Brodeur and Giguere play though? Two of the best goaltending plaoff performances of this millenium!
What a performance by Paul Kariya. That clip of him being knocked out and snapping out of it was so creepy. Then to come back and score a goal?!?! Amazing.
PING! Kariya blasts one through the roof in the top corner of the net. what a way to come back to a game when you get nailed by stevens. thats resilience for you. i wish Kariya was still on the ducks for when they won the cup in 07. why the hell did he get traded? :(
Anaheim deserved that cup. New Jersey was lucky to get out of there alive. As far as im concerned they were the luckiest champions ever. The Ducks freaking deserved that cup. Dude I'm sorry the Devils sucks balls now, Brodeur is way past his prime (look at how brutal he's been the past few playoffs). Plus they don't have that brick wall of a defense they used to have with niedermayer, stevens, rafalski etc. Ducks on the other hand might go again to the finals someday. But definitely not this year. This year it's between Detroit and San Jose.
Same here. I remember watching that at home and hearing Gary Thorne saying "the fans want one" right before Kariya let that shot go. That was probably the coolest goal in Ducks history.
Yeah I agree this commentator is amazing, I wish hockey was a bigger sport in the U.S., because i am so freakin tired of seeing baseball highlights on sportscenter. I mean how many diving catches do you think you will see during baseball season.
i was at this one, when kariya scored, it was louder than in the 07 finals...just the way he came back, and he was the captain, just made it that much more emotional

Seriously, he's being wasted on the Little League World Series. He's so energetic calling hockey games, I miss that.

gary thorne > doc emrick 8 days a week. that call on korea's goal, absolutely incredible.

Yeah I agree this commentator is amazing, I wish hockey was a bigger sport in the U.S., because i am so freakin tired of seeing baseball highlights on sportscenter. I mean how many diving catches do you think you will see during baseball season.

The Kariya goal will always give me goosebumps when I think of it. How amazing was that and Thorne's call on top of it?
I hope Gary gets involved with the NHL in the near future!

One of my favorite calls of all-time, even though I'm a Devils fan.

Dude!!! I respect that a lot man. It was an awesome series. Hopefully someday the Ducks and the Devils will meet in the finals again.

Definitely. And you guys got your Cup in '07, which was really fun to watch.

off the floor on the board.......
gary thorne is a much better commentator the mike emric.

i was at this one, when kariya scored, it was louder than in the 07 finals...just the way he came back, and he was the captain, just made it that much more emotional
